Imagine Exhibitions Brings Ultimate Renaissance Man to Las Vegas through “Da Vinci – The Genius”
LAS VEGAS – June 6, 2012 – Beginning June 15, Imagine Exhibitions, Inc. will present Da Vinci – The Genius, the most comprehensive exploration of Leonardo da Vinci’s work ever created, for a limited engagement at The Venetian® in Las Vegas. The interactive experience will immerse guests in da Vinci’s timeless brilliance through full-scale interpretations of the mastermind’s inventions and unparalleled exhibits of his iconic art.

Da Vinci – The Genius demonstrates the full scope of Leonardo Da Vinci’s remarkable genius as an inventor, artist, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician and architect. Guests will enjoy more than 200 unique pieces including 75 life-size machine inventions, three-dimensional renderings of da Vinci’s most notable Renaissance works and an eye-opening, in-depth analysis of his most famous piece, “Mona Lisa.” Visitors will be able to push, pull, crank and interact with many of these exhibits for a hands-on understanding of the scientific principles behind them.

“This exhibition was created to celebrate Leonardo da Vinci’s great works and place them all together in a single location where people can come and marvel at the brilliance of this great mind. We’re delighted to bring this exceptional project to Las Vegas as our first in the Imagine Exhibitions gallery,” said Tom Zaller, president of Imagine Exhibitions. “Da Vinci – The Genius offers visitors of all ages and backgrounds an entertaining, educational and enlightening experience, whether they are art and history aficionados or seeing da Vinci’s work for the first time.”

Created by da Vinci experts in Italy and France, Da Vinci – The Genius celebrates one of the most revered and dynamic minds of all time. The exhibition features 11 compelling themed areas of da Vinci’s work, offering visitors an unmatched look inside the mind of the man who laid the groundwork for some of modern society’s most impactful inventions, such as the helicopter, airplane, automobile, submarine, parachute and bicycle.

All of the inventions brought to life for Da Vinci – The Genius were crafted by Italian artisans, many using the same techniques and materials from the Renaissance period. Scouring more than 6,000 pages from da Vinci’s personal codices (notebooks), the Artisans deciphered hidden clues, intentional mistakes and mirror-image writing that da Vinci employed to keep his works top secret.

The most illustrious component of Da Vinci – The Genius is its recently added Secrets of Mona Lisa exhibit, featuring the findings of French scientific engineer and examiner of fine art, Pascal Cotte. In 2004, Cotte was granted unprecedented access to “Mona Lisa” by the French government and the Louvre Museum. Cotte was permitted to take “Mona Lisa” off the wall at the Louvre and out of its frame to conduct a scientific analysis that revealed dozens of secrets about history’s most elusive art piece. The exhibit showcases Cotte’s study and 25 of his most compelling revelations, illustrated by 40 super-magnified, high-resolution sectional images exploring every aspect of the work.

“Da Vinci – The Genius is the most complete and comprehensive da Vinci exhibition on the planet,” said John Caparella, president of The Venetian. “It’s a perfect complement to The Venetian’s summer-long Carnevale festival, and the emerging arts community in Las Vegas.”

Visitors of Da Vinci – The Genius are invited to embrace the history, theory and objective behind each of da Vinci’s designs and artworks through engaging and entertaining technologies. Other highlights include reproductions of “Virgin of the Rocks”, and “The Annunciation,” amazing anatomical sketches, the preparatory drawings of the “Anghiari Battle,” and three-dimensional interactive presentations of “The Last Supper,” the “Vitruvian Man,” and the “Sforza Horse” sculpture that offer never before seen perspectives on these famous works. Guests also will enjoy a glimpse into da Vinci’s mysterious alphabet and writing techniques as they browse touch-screen versions of his actual codices.

The exhibition was developed jointly by the Anthropos Association of Italy and Grande Exhibitions, under the kind auspices of the Consulate General of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute and Friends of FAI (FAI - the National Trust for Italy).

Doors open to the public on Friday, June 15. Tickets for Da Vinci – The Genius will be available for purchase at The Venetian box office and; prices are as follows: adult ($25), senior/military ($23), Nevada residents ($20), children 12 and under ($18). Da Vinci – The Genius will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

IHG adds Venetian, Palazzo to brand family

By Jason Q. Freed
News Editor-Americas

LAS VEGAS-Two is a coincidence; three is a trend.

InterContinental Hotels Group became the third worldwide brand this year to bring a major casino-hotel on the Las Vegas Strip into its brand family. IHG announced Monday a partnership with Las Vegas Sands to bring The Venetian Resort and Palazzo Resort into its marketing and distribution family.

Earlier this year, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts entered into a franchise agreement with Planet Hollywood and Marriott Hotels and Resorts announced it would handle marketing and distribution for The Cosmopolitan, set to open 15 December.

IHG's head of the Americas Jim Abrahamson signs the partnership with Las Vegas Sands Corporation's Mike Leven. InterContinental Priority Club members can now earn and redeem points at two of the most prestigious venues on The Strip, and the two Sands properties will benefit from the power of 10 worldwide reservation centers.
"We're proud to announce the beginning of a whole new relationship," said Jim Abrahamson, president of the Americas for IHG, during the opening session of the 2010 IHG Americas Investors & Leadership Conference, coincidentally held at The Venetian this week. "We have just signed a contract and we are announcing today an agreement to join IHG and this fabulous Las Vegas resort.

"Early next year, The Venetian Resort and Palazzo Resort will be designated as InterContinental Alliance Resorts."

Initially just the two Las Vegas properties will become part of IHG's global distribution platform, but CEO Andy Cosslett said the partnership is "a foot in the door" to other areas where Sands properties are located (Singapore, Macau) and IHG already has a large presence.

"This resort has won every award in the book, from AAA 5-diamond to Mobil 4-star to Conde Nast top 20," Abrahamson said, referring to The Venetian. "As an InterContinental Alliance Resort, Priority Club Rewards members will have access to the glamour of Las Vegas in a world-class resort."

A spokeswoman for IHG said it would cost approximately 40,000 Priority Club points for a night at The Venetian. Based on calculations that the average Holiday Inn roomnight costs US$100 and earns 200 Priority Club points, it would take, on average, 200 Holiday Inn roomnights booked to earn a free night at The Venetian.

A win-win

Mike Leven, COO of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, said, "The alliance to the world's largest hotel loyalty program is truly a win-win."

Leven is no stranger to IHG's staple brand, Holiday Inn. He served as the president of Holiday Inn Worldwide from 1990 to 1995. Following that stint, Leven formed U.S. Franchise Systems, which franchised the Microtel Inns & Suites, Hawthorn Suites, and Best Inns and Best Suites hotel brands. During his five-year tenure with Holiday Inn Worldwide, the Holiday Inn Express brand opened 330 hotels.

The Venetian in Las Vegas.

"To all the franchisees and corporate employees who worked with me 15 years ago and spent time with me in our effort to move the needle forward on what was then called Holiday Inn Worldwide, it's very nice to be amongst friends and to welcome friends back to my hotel," Leven said during the general session.
During a recent interview with, Shannon Okada, VP of HVS' consulting and valuation division in Las Vegas, said big brands partnering with casino-hotels on The Strip is beneficial to the Las Vegas market.

"It allows opportunities to tap into existing databases to expand patron markets," he said. "Proper cross-marketing benefits potentially benefit both brands."

However, Okada said casino-hotels are unique entities that provide opportunities and challenges for companies inexperienced with the operation.

"In situations where there may be an underlying conflict of interest, decisions may be made that will benefit one brand over another. If correctly integrated, there is the possibility that the synergistic relationship will be very beneficial to the property," he said.
The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas Receive AAA® Five Diamonds for 2010

Properties' Commitment to Superior Guest Experience Not Impacted by Economic Conditions

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 9, 2009)-The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas, two of the world's premiere destination resort hotels and both owned and operated by global resort developer Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE‐LVS), have been awarded with the renowned AAA Five Diamond Award® for 2010.

"It is very gratifying that in its first year of eligibility The Palazzo has been recognized with AAA Five Diamonds and we are equally proud that, for the third year in a row, The Venetian has also achieved this distinction," said Rob Goldstein, president of both properties. "To have two hotels, with a combined 7,100 all‐suite rooms, each receive this award is a testament to our team members and their on‐going dedication to providing superior guest service."

"It would be easy to assume in an economic environment in which many hospitality companies are attempting to control costs and leisure travelers are looking to stretch their vacation dollars even further, that the premium customer service experience might be unfortunately compromised. At The Venetian and The Palazzo we have not bowed to that possibility for one minute," continued Goldstein. "The fact is we are able to provide an award‐winning guest experience and offer a wide range of world‐class shopping, dining, and entertainment amenities at a significant value when compared to many of the other hotels who have been awarded the five diamond ranking."

The AAA Five Diamond Award for hotels and restaurants is North America's most coveted symbol of excellence in the hospitality industry. Representing the upper echelon of the hospitality industry, AAA Five Diamond Award winners make up just 0.28 percent of the 58,000 Diamond Rated lodgings and restaurants throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The independent association defines Five Diamond properties as establishments that reflect the characteristics of the ultimate in luxury and sophistication and comprise first class accommodations. Exceeding guest expectations, providing meticulous service, and maintaining impeccable standards of excellence, are the fundamental hallmarks of the AAA Five Diamond level.

"Five Diamond establishments do more than provide luxurious surroundings; they consistently deliver a high level of personal attention to every guest," said Michael Petrone, AAA director of Tourism Information Development.

"Awareness and follow through are critical when dealing with the most discriminating guest expectations. To achieve this level of hospitality is a rare accomplishment and one that is especially challenging for a relatively new hotel to obtain. AAA is pleased to honor The Palazzo Las Vegas with their first AAA Five Diamond Award and for the third year in a row, The Venetian Resort‐Hotel‐Casino."
