The spectacular 483-acre resort embraces the island’s stunning natural beauty with verdant landscapes, breathtaking ocean views and a private bird sanctuary, and is the Caribbean’s first certified Gold Audubon Signature Sanctuary. The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort offers a new dimension of service and luxury for Puerto Rico and features St. Regis’ legendary Butler Service, Jean-Georges’ restaurant Fern, a 10,000 square foot Remède Spa, and an ocean-front golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

The resort has been thoughtfully developed, ensuring that the local plant and wildlife have not been disturbed, and these exceptional efforts and practices have been recognized with Audubon’s Gold Signature Sanctuary certification. The resort also has an on-site “green team,” composed of an ecologist, two agronomists, and a landscape architect, who cultivate native and indigenous plants that protect the natural vegetation of the resort’s lowland coastal and forest areas, and as part of the property’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable development, the property has created a 2.4-acre plant nursery and garden to supply plants and trees for landscaping and reforestation as well as fresh produce and herbs for Fern and the Remède Spa.
In keeping with the resort’s homage to the enchanting island, The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort’s signature restaurant Fern offers tantalizing culinary delights prepared with the freshest indigenous ingredients by Executive Chef Juan Peña. Exclusively developed by celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the menu showcases a blend of Jean-Georges’ world renowned repertoire of distinctive dishes with traditional Puerto Rican ingredients such as papaya, mango, and coconut. While dining at Fern, guests can enjoy exquisite dishes including black pepper octopus, wood oven roasted lobster, and warm chocolate cake with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream. Located on the second floor of the grand Plantation House, Fern offers intimate, candlelit indoor and outdoor dining with uninterrupted views of the resort’s flawless beach.

Committed to preserving the natural integrity of the site, the course design is sensitive to the environment while providing challenging variety. With holes along the ocean, scenic lakes, undulating fairways and gentle ocean breezes, the course’s splendor is matched only by the world-class play it offers to golfers of all abilities. The course’s clubhouse showcases the resort’s signature tropical, plantation style architecture and is beautifully accented by exposed stone and brickwork. Inside the clubhouse guests have access to the restaurant Molasses, a golf shop, an inviting bar, and men’s and ladies’ lounges
and locker rooms which offer a variety of amenities and services. Outside boasts a full-size beachfront swimming pool and patio areas overlooking the ocean for dining and entertaining.
Following in the literary tradition of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, who commissioned a library for the brand’s flagship The St. Regis New York in 1904, The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort offers a modern spin on the concept by presenting a curated library as a special guest amenity. The library includes book selections from St. Regis friends and influencers including fashion designer and St. Regis Connoisseur Jason Wu, renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and jewelry designers Alexis Bittar and Temple St. Clair, along with St. Regis Connoisseur and celebrated polo player Nacho Figueras.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort features nearly 27,000 square feet of function space, including three outdoor lawn event spaces, the ocean-view Astor pavilion and the spacious elegance of the Astor Ballroom, setting the stage for grand weddings and occasions in true St. Regis style. The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort Preserves Puerto Rico’s Natural Environment and Receives Audubon’s International Gold Signature Sanctuary Certification
Posted February 6, 2014
Bahia Beach, Puerto Rico – Opened November 4, 2010, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is recognized for its exceptional commitment to environmentally-thoughtful development with Audubon’s International Gold Signature Sanctuary certification, and strives to practice and promote a strong dedication to preserve its ecological environment. The resort is Puerto Rico’s first certified Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary and certification is awarded only to new developments which are designed, constructed and maintained according to Audubon International’s precise planning standards and strict environmental criteria.
To earn Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary certification, the resort implemented a Natural Resource Management Plan that encompasses wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement, water quality monitoring, integrated pest management, water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste management. Steps taken by the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort to execute the Management Plan include the removal of exotic invasive plant species, transplanting of over 4,500 native trees, planting of more than 12,000 trees, planting of more than 70,000 native and naturalized plants, creation of island preserves, installation of sumps to prevent drainage into lagoons and Atlantic Ocean, capture of storm water runoff, which is then used for irrigation, addition of vegetative buffers for natural water filtration, creation of littoral shelves to provide habitat for aquatic species, and extremely limited use of pesticides and fertilizers.
The resort has a group of professionals known as the “green team” composed of an ecologist, two agronomists, and a landscape architect, all lea by Marcela Cañon, an on-staff Marine Biologist who has experience working with protected areas conservation, wetlands management, environmental education and outreach, ecological recovery, and project management. With Marcela, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort has created numerous programs to help maintain the natural environment including sea turtle and manatee conservation, energy and materials efficiency, and green building. Connectivity is also an important goal for the resort and entails creating connecting corridors throughout the property that naturally joins together the surrounding river, beach, forest and ocean.
Additionally, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort created a plant nursery to supply reforestation of plants and trees to the premises. Occupying approximately 2.4 acres of land and equipped with state of the art technology that focuses on the production of native, naturalized and gardening plants, the nursery has generated more than 80% of the
resort’s planted species. Cultivated native species include Moca, Maria, Uva de playa (Beach Grapes), Icacos, Green Mangrove, Silver Mangrove, Clavellina, Maga and Native Oak, while exotic species cultivated in the nursery includes Dominican Mahogany, Honduran Mahogany, Ilan Ilan, Flamboyán, Hemajaguilla and Franjipani. There is also a hydroponic garden on the property that harvests vegetables and fruits for guests to enjoy and which also provides herbs to Rèmede Spa for spa treatments.
Located on a former coconut plantation nestled between the lush El Yunque rainforest and the tranquil waters of the Espiritu Santo River, the 483-acre resort is home to a variety of animals including fish such as snook and tarpon, frigate birds, pelicans, West Indian whistling ducks, iguanas, sea turtles, many species of songbirds and provides habitat for the endangered Puerto Rican parrot, as well as plant life including Maria trees, palm trees, and golden leather ferns. It also is surrounded by a coral reef. St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort features breathtaking views in every direction of the beautiful preserved natural surroundings, all of which are enhanced by accommodations that have been built in low rise plantation style buildings beneath the tree line to harmonize the guest experience with the exquisite nature that will be preserved around them. To explore the region’s scenic environment and preserved nature, the resort offers wonderful opportunities for guests such as nature walks, bird watching, hiking trails and kayaking among other activities.

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico (May 2012) – The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is delighted to announce that the luxurious ocean-side Caribbean property has earned AAA’s Five Diamond Rating, recognizing the resort as the only property in Puerto Rico to receive this prestigious accomplishment.
