As far from your run-of-the-mill retreat as Montana is from Manhattan, The Ranch at Rock Creek brings the open range within easy reach of incentive groups looking to truly get away. The 48-room ranch, outside of Philipsburg, Montana, ensures a sense of space for up to 140 guests spanning 6,600 acres. Accommodations include guest rooms in the Granite Lodge and a renovated nineteenth-century barn, cowboy-chic Luxury Canvas Cabins set by the creek, and nine log homes.
Depending on season, a day’s agenda may include fly-fishing, horseback riding, skiing, or a round at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Old Works Golf Course nearby. Back at the homestead, guests bowl, enjoy fine dining, and visit the spa. There’s also room for business with flexible meeting venues that include Silver Dollar Saloon and a theater.

We had the most amazing experience at the Ranch. They just don’t miss a beat there. You can tell that everyone truly loves working there and the warmth and hospitality we received was great. It felt like you were there with a bunch of family. Everyone always asked your name, remembered it, smiled. As I said – you can truly tell they love it there and it reflects throughout the property.
Our accommodations were great too. We started in the main house and were moved to Trapper the last night thanks to Mandy. I am glad we got to move because it really felt more Ranch vibe out there. It was such an amazing room out by the water. We cancelled our morning fishing lesson because we wanted to lay out there and enjoy the final hours we had there.
The food was incredible. Best I have ever had overall at any “hotel”. You could tell how fresh it was and never greasy – just amazing. We ate WAY too much but we looked forward to every meal because we knew it would be something great. The chef is an amazing guy as well and so humble. Talked to everyone at every meal. He sat with us at our site and talked casually and it was really interesting to listen to him. I am already missing his great creations!
The site check was fabulous as well. At first we were bummed it was so long, but once we got out there and starting meeting people and seeing stuff – the time flew by. It was very informative and such a great opportunity to meet with different team members.
Overall the property is an amazing place that more than met my expectations. Way exceeded them.

Sight unseen, Lynn and I had a pretty good feeling that we’d like the property, but we really had no idea what was in store for us. Before I begin gushing I just want to establish that I’m a man that has a frame of reference. Definitely “not my first rodeo” and not our first guest ranch experience! Just sayin’…these guys are pretty good. And that’s to a person!
If I had to select only one word that characterizes and underscores the most important attribute of the property…it would be “consistency.” Consistency in a high quality staff who are relentless in their mission to make guests feel welcome and at home …consistency in attaining a balance in décor that’s both in keeping with a western ranch theme and, at the same time, is just “tony” enough that you’re always conscious of the fact that you’re staying in a very special place… consistency in high quality food, always fresh and authentically presented, frequently accompanied with flair or a pleasant surprise…and consistency in delivering highest quality outdoor adventure experiences that create indelible memories.
Returning to the subject of the ranch employees and managers for a moment, it seems like there are two elements that contribute to the resounding, highly obvious esprit de corps; 1) They’ve either had some great training at the ranch…or they just act like they have. Either way is just fine…and 2) To a person, they really love where they work, appreciate the mutually respectful environment they work in…and genuinely believe that their voice can be heard and they can make a contribution. How refreshing! Most CEO’s and business owners would kill to have a staff with that kind of commitment and sense of loyalty.
Oh, one last point! Earlier I clarified that this “isn’t my first rodeo.” Aside from the metaphor, you can also take that literally as well. Just happens that I like rodeos and I’ve seen some really big rodeos and some medium size rodeos. I think what I saw last Wednesday was the smallest rodeo I’ve ever seen in my life. It was also the sweetest, most charming, honest and pure rodeo presentation. It all felt like “family.” Truth is…I’ve never had more fun at any other rodeo I can think of.
So, I have just one more thing to say about the Ranch at Rock Creek…Nice goin'!
