Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Charleston, South Carolina, boasts America’s largest collection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century homes and public buildings, a top-tier culinary reputation, shopping, golf, and a coastal lifestyle. Little wonder, then, that it was been honored for four consecutive years as the Top US Destination by Condé Nast Traveler and readers of Travel + Leisure.
The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel routinely receives accolades of its own from Condé Nast for excellence among destination hotels. Established in 1853, the hotel blends nineteenth-century charm with twenty-first-century luxury to provide a quintessential Charleston experience. The building abides just steps from Charleston’s fine dining, boutique shopping, and nightlife—yet nestles among the art galleries and restored homes.
Hotel guests follow in the footsteps of everyone from General Robert E. Lee and President Theodore Roosevelt to modern-day celebrities. In perfect harmony with the surroundings of fine art and antiques, gilded elevators lead from the lobby to 216 individually appointed accommodations, completely restored in 2014. For dining, the legendary Barbadoes Room features Lowcountry specialties. For cocktails and camaraderie, guests dip into the First Shot Lounge and Fountain Courtyard, among the most beautiful outdoor settings in the city. Venues dedicated to corporate business and events range from the Middleton Room for up to 40 attendees to the Signer’s Ballroom for up to 350. In addition, the hotel works closely with the adjoining Hibernian Hall, a national historic landmark dating from 1840 with a 600-square-foot stage and 6,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
Planner Reviews
From our planner community
We became acquainted with The Mills House and its staff ten years ago with the inception of the South Carolina Financial Concepts and Strategies Institute.
Since its foundation in 2005, the Mills House has been the exclusive venue for the Institute, providing accommodations to over 100 guests and use of its meetings rooms to host educational sessions.
We value the staff's team player mind-set, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to exceeding customer expectations as we plan and host the conference each year. We frequently receive praise from our clients commending the outstanding level of service, professionalism and follow-through from the Mills House staff.
We have been pleased with the efforts of the Mills House Hotel and staff and are happy to extend this recommendation.

I commend the team at The Mills House Hotel in Charleston for the outstanding service provided to our group during our recent Incentive Trip. I’ve heard great feedback on their trip experiences from our VIPs, also from many sales reps and spouses.
Personally, I have been with Marc since late January of 2013, coordinating three major events and two smaller events for them each year. As event coordinator, I found him, and everyone else I worked with at The Mills House, to be very helpful, prompt and courteous with responses – making my duties as coordinator move along smoothly and confidently.

I've just concluded my second two-day business meeting within the past sixty days at this property, and about to have my third meeting. I've never used a property more than once for my meetings, and I've used The Mills House a total of three times in the past ninety days. There's a one-word reason for that: easy!
Meetings at the Mills House are easy with no surprises and all expectations met. I can assure you, planning and facilitating a minimum of 14-meetings a year, the team at he Mills House is the exception, certainly not the norm, unfortunately. The participants that attend my meetings are oil company executives. These folks are fortunate to have experienced some of the best properties in the world, and The Mills House is one of their favorites.
When you combine the history of The Mills (1783), with their exceptional team, all in the heart of one of the greatest cities in the world, with the finest restaurants, it's not hard not to have meetings at The Mills House in the historic district of Charleston. Unlike some properties who claim they are in Charleston's historic district, The MIlls House actually is. I found this out the hard way as I once booked a property north of Calhoun Street. Not the historic district! If I had my way (and I'm working on it), all my meetings would be in Charleston at The Mills House. Unfortunately, my meeting guests like to mix it up a bit and visit different cities.
