Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Groups looking to combine meetings with Canada’s best ski boutique hotel — a title earned from the 2019 World Ski Awards — find just that at The Josie. Opened in late 2018 in the former gold-mining hamlet turned ski town of Rossland, British Columbia, the hotel offers 106 lodgings fit for urban sophisticates and wrapped in the splendor of Canada’s Western Kootenay Rockies. The Josie was named in honor of entrepreneur R.E. Lemon’s sister, who accompanied him out west and was also the namesake of a valuable mine in the area. She embodied Rossland’s pioneering spirit, living in each moment with strength and hospitality.
Today, attendees gather just steps from the lifts leading to Red Mountain Resort’s 3,850 skiable acres. Among the available spaces are a ballroom for up to 88 people, an adjoining terrace for up to 112, and a boardroom for up to 16. Bespoke services include everything from arrangements for transportation and audiovisual equipment to plans for team-building and other group activities, awards banquets, and special events large and small requiring custom food and beverage.
Despite its boutique size, The Josie offers a towering mountain of amenities, such as a ski valet, outdoor cedar saunas, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a full-service spa. Plus, the onsite Velvet Restaurant & Lounge — also named after a famously productive local gold mine — serves mountain-inspired craft cuisine by executive chef Marc-André Choquette, a big-city transplant from Montreal and Vancouver.
