Hospitality veteran to lead Curio’s newest hotel, Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – November 12, 2014 – Ed Walls has joined Hilton Worldwide as the newest member of the Curio – A Collection by Hilton management team. As the General Manager for Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood since October 2011, Walls will continue to oversee the overall operations and sales for the 998 room beachfront property. Located in Hollywood, Florida, the award-winning 39-story resort is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway and features a 209,000 sq. ft. convention center, six on-site dining options including Diplomat Prime, luxurious 14,000 sq. ft. full-service spa, 24-hour fitness studio and a private marina.

Walls joins Hilton Worldwide with over 34 years of experience in various capacities. He started his hospitality career in 1977 with Guest Quarters, Inc. in Washington D.C. and Houston Texas, holding several leadership positions before joining W.B. Johnson Properties as general manager in 1981. Since then he has held the positions of general manager, director of operations and area managing director for several hospitality companies including Boykin Management, Arden Hotels and more recently Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

An active participant in local affairs, Walls was recently appointed to Broward County’s Tourist Development Council and currently sits on The Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the City of Hollywood Office of Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee, the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood Board of Directors, the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Citizens Advisory Board, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Board of Directors and is also involved in several local Broward charities. Showing a passion for the community, he has been very involved in previous assignments in senior leadership positions with a myriad of local community organizations.

Thayer Lodging Group’s 998-Room Iconic Resort Joins Curio – A Collection by Hilton
HOLLYWOOD, Fl. – Oct. 30, 2014 – The historic Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood, along with its 900-plus employees, today joined Curio – A Collection by Hilton.

South Florida’s premier beachfront resort and convention center, the Diplomat Resort was acquired last month by Thayer Lodging Group (“Thayer”), a Brookfield Company, and its institutional partners. The resort encompasses 998 rooms and suites, numerous restaurants and a spa, along with more than 200,000 square feet of meeting and convention space. Thayer previously announced the property would undergo a $100 million enhancement initiative to begin later this year.

The transition was marked this morning with a ceremony attended by Diplomat, Thayer, Curio and Hilton Worldwide leaders, along with resort employees, city officials and South Florida influencers.

Property to be Branded as Curio- A Collection by Hilton; Thayer to Launch $100 Million Resort Enhancement
NEW YORK – (Sept. 2, 2014) –Thayer Lodging Group (“Thayer”), a Brookfield Company, and its institutional partners, have acquired the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, Fla.
The Company announced the property will be renamed the Diplomat Resort & Spa and will join Hilton Worldwide’s newest brand, Curio – A Collection by Hilton, in October 2014. Thayer will also embark on a $100 million enhancement initiative for the oceanfront property later this year.
Thayer Co-Chairman Lee Pillsbury notes the Diplomat acquisition is a reflection of the company’s continued growth in the hospitality sector, adding that Thayer is excited about bringing Hilton’s Curio brand to the resort.
South Florida’s premier beachfront resort and convention center, the Diplomat Resort encompasses 998 rooms and suites, numerous restaurants and a Spa, along with more than
200,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, where it annually hosts numerous major gatherings.
“It is a renowned property that offers South Florida’s premier combination of resort and convention facilities. A ritzy and opulent retreat, it quickly made Hollywood, Florida, a popular destination for the rich, famous and anyone seeking a little glamour with their surf and sun.
The resort was acquired from the Plumbers & Pipefitters National Pension Fund, which redeveloped the property on the site of the historic, former hotel of the same name. As part of the transaction, the Diplomat Golf & Tennis Club was acquired by Concord Wilshire, a real estate development company. The resort and the golf properties will work closely with each other to serve their guests and continue presenting luxury experiences.

The hotel remains open and fully operational and will continue to conduct business as usual during the transition. All existing guest reservations will be honored.
