San Juan Marriott Resort Honored with AAA Four Diamond Award

AAA representatives presented award at on-‐property ceremony
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – March 2014 – The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award at an on-‐property ceremony by AAA representatives last Wednesday, March 5, 2014. AAA Marketing Consultant for West Florida, the Caribbean and Bermuda, Mike Nasser and local AAA Field Manager Brenda Ocasio presented the award to Director of Sales and Marketing Joaquin Cruz, who accepted on behalf of the resort
This is the San Juan Marriott Resort’s 11th year ranked as a AAA Four Diamond property, which is awarded to only 5.3 percent of the more than 29,000 properties that are reviewed every year. The AAA Four Diamond status is awarded to upscale properties that are progressively more refined and stylish, and provide a high degree in hospitality, service and attention to detail, according to the AAA hotel ratings guidelines.
“Achieving the AAA Four Diamond Award for the 11th consecutive year reinforces our dedication to providing the highest quality services to our ever-‐changing customer,” said Joaquin Cruz, director of sales and marketing of the San Juan Marriott. “We are honored to receive this award and plan to uphold our distinguished status at the San Juan Marriott for years to come.”
AAA’s professionally trained inspectors rank nearly 59,000 hotels and restaurants every year and use published guidelines to evaluate lodgings and restaurants throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, rating them on a scale of one to five Diamonds, based on comfort, cleanliness, service, and hospitality.

San Juan Marriott Resort Completes $8 Million Room Enhancement
Posted December 13, 2013
Upgrades to 525 guestrooms introduces a rejuvenated, upscale residential room product
The San Juan Marriott Resort completed an $8 million guest room enhancement with upgrades to all 525 guestrooms and balconies. The redesign brings the look and feel of the rooms in line with the ongoing modernization of the rest of the resort, geared to meet demands of the ever-changing customer.

The new room product reflects a more upscale, residential ambiance, combining warm wooden tones in furnishings with fresh splashes of color to signify the tropical location. Additionally, new 47-inch TVs, balcony furniture, and sandy textured carpeting have been incorporated, and artwork further provides a sense of place.

“The finished guest room enhancement brings San Juan Marriott full circle after renovations to the F&B outlets, casino, meeting space and lobby over the past three years, all based on the demands of the evolving traveler,” said Hans-Georg Roehrbein, General Manager. “We’ve found that though guests are spending less time in rooms and more time in public spaces, when they are in-room they expect a design that is luxurious, but with comfort and function as key.”

San Juan Marriott’s last room product upgrade was a $35 million investment in 2007, which produced a completely renovated room and bathroom combining clean, crisp design with state of the art technology. Other recent updates include a re-imagined La Vista Latin Grill, the hotel’s three meal a day restaurant and La Isla Beach and Pool Bar in 2010, as well as a $2.2 million overhaul of the lobby and introduction of the “Red Coral Lounge” in 2012.

“The living space must support the public space as today’s travelers tend to connect in all areas of the hotel,” Roehrbein said. “The $8 million room upgrade is the latest answer to meeting the needs of today and tomorrow’s guests and is crucial to staying relevant and viable in such a competitive market.”
