Executives expecting to “rough it” at Rough Creek Lodge & Resort have a pleasant surprise in store. Hunting, fishing, shooting, and horseback riding do feature prominently on the activities list, but guests can also look forward to hours of cabana time by the pool, pampering at the spa, epicurean dining, and all the other luxuries of a first-class boutique resort.
A favorite of the Fortune 500 set, the retreat sits on 11,140 acres of Texas Hill Country southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. A 10-minute helicopter ride or 90-minute drive takes guests from the airport to 51 lakeside rooms and suites at the Main Lodge, four cabins under the oaks, and 10 private guesthouses. The furnishings suggest a cattle baron’s estate: leather club chairs, pecan-wood armoires, wooden rockers on the balconies, and boot brushes on the doorsteps. Modern comforts range from deep soaking tubs and separate showers to feather-soft bedding, nightly turndown, satellite TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Executives with business on the agenda meet at a conference center designed for up to 125 delegates and supported by high-tech equipment and a dedicated meetings manager. Corporate team builders select from a truly Texas-sized array of options, including hiking and biking on miles of nature trails, zip-lining, wall climbing, cattle drives, bird hunts, hayrides, and model rocket launches.

I organized a work retreat for my office group of 16 people at Rough Creek. Everything was top notch and my colleagues are all hoping to go back again next year. The rooms are so comfortable, and every staff member was friendly and accommodating. There were various activities available for all abilities and preferences. Personally, I enjoyed rock climbing, canoeing, and zip lining. I also took a great 5-mile run around the lake. The landscape is quintessential Texas. Last but not least, THE FOOD! As a vegetarian, I had a couple of the most thoughtful and delicious veggie dishes of my life. My colleagues loved the meat dishes too. Everything was over-the-top wonderful. Ty, the conference sales manager was easy to work with and very thoughtful. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! From the beginning of the process to the final check out, everything was taken care of for us! We came here with our company of about 50 people and there was plenty of room for us all. The rooms were great, the food was outstanding and the outdoor events were well put together. Ty did a great job of making sure all was taken care of!

The relaxed setting was perfect for our executive retreat and the food was delectable! I knew we’d hit a home run when my go-to person for restaurant recommendations took the first bite of her salad on night one and said, “oh my God, this is amazing”! All looked forward to tasting each course of every meal. Compliments abound on the accommodations and activities as well - large well appointed rooms, outdoor activities were great for building comradery and re-grouping following working sessions. Worth the two hour drive from DFW!

You can't ask for more! This place has it all. Our company has held its Annual Partner Retreat event at the Rough Creek for couple of years in a row, and every year we've had great experience and exceptional hospitality. In my opinion, they are the only Five-Diamond resort in Texas, with a dedicated staff and gracious services that exude the relaxed warmth of a private country club. Much like an active country-club experience, your every leisure, sport and business need will be met by their exceptional Resort amenities and attentive staff.
If you have not visited this place, you are missing a little heaven on the Texas grounds.

We had a strategic planning business retreat here in 2012 and have already made plans for our 2013 business retreat, as well. Organization is spectacular at Rough Creek Lodge. We are a few miles away and can't be hands on to discuss our needs, however, that is not a problem. When we arrive, the staff is fully aware of our arrival. The Sales team works diligently to ensure our request is fit in a package that works for our attendees. They are very accommodating with special requests, as well. A few of our attendees are blind or sight impaired and the staff adjusts to necessary needs. They make it very nice in having items necessary for conducting a business meeting. No need to drag items there, now there is a cost for some of the items, so keep that in mind. Very nice rooms, meeting rooms and dining areas.

We have found the Rough Creek Staff, Service and Accommodations to be excellent for both of the company retreats we have had there. Another one is planned for the Fall. Because Rough Creek is so appealing to both men and women and because of the excellent planning services of the staff, we plan on having group events there on an on-going basis. We also are taking our extended family there for a holiday weekend.

I have planned and attended Executive Retreats for several years at Rough Creek Lodge in both summer and fall. The resort is the perfect spot for upscale adventure along with Texas cuisine at the highest level of fine dining. I have observed that all staff members know how to anticipate the needs of guests in a most hospitable way. From the minute of arrival you are attended to as a welcomed guest. As a planner, I commend conference staff on professionalism and promptness. I must say that as a planner, it is sometimes difficult to enjoy yourself at meetings but Rough Creek Lodge staff has always done things in such a way that I have been able to fully enjoy myself as a guest without worry. Staff is always immediately available if needed. The meeting facilities and functions are the level you would expect from a resort. Meeting room chairs are most comfortable and acoustics are good and we have never experienced any technology issues. One aspect we really like is that we can meet as a group in an intimate, yet grand setting with everything we need on site. Once we have arrived we are able to be in a group setting without any distractions or worries about having to transport ourselves anywhere for dining or entertainment. The simple elegance of the Texas Outdoors in upscale rustic style is so relaxing. I consider the cuisine to definitely be a culinary adventure to rival all others. Most items are house made and presentation is stunning. For culinary adventure seekers like me, I recommend Rough Creek to anyone. From Premium Gold Angus Beef, to fresh house made mozzarella cheese or game cuisine, every taste is a treat and presented as a work of art. The property is for all levels of adventure seekers whether it be taking a nature hike, ziplining or taking a GPS Nagivational Adventure. This team building challenge allows you to experience throwing tomahawks, shooting arrows, throwing a lasso, and many other tasks competing against other team members while resort escorts drive you to each destination through use of your teams GPS. We love this challenge. We also have enjoyed ziplining, rock wall climbing and relaxing at one of the pools on the property. During the evening we usually sit outside and visit and in the fall we enjoy the firepit and outdoor fireplace. Each guest room is extraordinary and no matter which room you have, the view is stunning! I consider Rough Creek Lodge and Resort MY kind of roughing it - roughing it in luxury!

The customer service throughout our stay was above any I have ever encountered. An example our Director cites to others is when one of our attendees received a call and got up from the table to take the call. A server immediately came over and took his soup and put it under a warmer until he returned. Anticipation of needs was evident, but so was flexiblity when we had attendees skip events or show up at events that we they were not expected to attend. The individual from our organization that had set this up was unable to attend, so I attended in her place. The Rough Creek event staff were great at bringing me up to speed from their end and responded to every request for change or addition positively. I would recommend this venue to anyone, but especially to those that need to see premier customer service first hand.

I have used Rough Creek for 4 of the last 5 annual board meetings. They gave us an exceptional experience. Very attentive and professional, yet still on a personal level.

A little more than an hour east of Dallas, the Rough Creek Lodge is an oasis in an otherwise drab environment of small Texas ranch towns. Ideal for a small group when owning a property is wanted. Two on-site activities (thankfully not at the same time) are bird-watching and bird-hunting. Has a great spa.

In 2005 we had our sales & marketing meeting at Rough Creek Lodge. Today we still talk about how well we enjoyed it. The food still today, has been the best food anyone of us have had. The rooms, staff, everything was top notch. The only downfall is the location. If you are looking at golf, shopping, this might not be the place. However, if you want to get away, enjoy an amazing spa, wilderness, some hunting, tennis, etc... this is an amazing place and highly recommended.
