Rooms Renovation Completes Hotel’s Multi-Year and Multi-Million Dollar Transformation
SAN DIEGO, CA –Loews Coronado Bay Resort debuted all new guestrooms completing a multi-million dollar redesign that encompassed the lobby, restaurants, public spaces, meeting space, corridors and guestroom bathrooms. Taking full advantage of the resort’s waterfront location, the new design artfully combines San Diego’s sun and surf with the casual elegance of an oceanfront home.

The new rooms were inspired by traditional Spanish missions and contemporary yachts integrating an eclectic mix of traditional pieces combined with modern touches. Gensler interior design firm created a “home away from home” by combining a palette of cool blues reminiscent of the ocean, soft yellows inspired by the sunset and shimmering silvers to mimic the reflections of the beach.

“Guests who have not stayed with us in recent years will be in awe of the new design and décor,” said Brian Johnson, the hotel’s Managing Director. “From the moment you walk in, it’s a fresh look for Loews Coronado Bay.” he said. “We are making continual and lasting improvements to ensure the hotel remains relevant to today’s travelers.”

In addition to the rooms renovation, recent investments to the property include a complete redesign of its lobby, Bay Terrace, Cays Lounge, Market Café and Market “To Go” in 2013. BAMO, a luxury design firm whose portfolio includes some of the world’s finest hotels, describes the style of their design as “lively and fresh” and a place guests will “feel at ease.” San Diego’s sparkling bay is central to the theme and is one of the first things guests will see when entering the new lobby.

A two-story chandelier of suspended glass adds center-stage drama to the resort’s grand staircase and a new signature clock on the lobby floor encourages guests to lose track of time while they savor the seaside resort. The new lobby also boasts floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bay with cozy living-room style seating in Cays Lounge. The recent renovation to the meeting space, corridors and guestroom bathrooms brings the total investment of the resort to more than $22 million over the last five years.

Additional Room Features:
• The new rooms include a recycle bin, along with the standard trash can so guests can do their part for the planet, just like at home.
• Plug away! There are an additional 6 electrical outlets and 2 USB ports in the desk, desk lamp and bedside lamps in the new room design, making it convenient to charge devices.

NICOLAS BOUR NAMED EXECUTIVE CHEF AT LOEWS CORONADO BAY RESORT
Posted May 13, 2014
Culinary Industry Leader Takes the Helm at the Luxurious Waterfront Resort
CORONADO, CA (May 13, 2014) – Loews Coronado Bay Resort is delighted to welcome Nicolas Bour as executive chef at the waterfront resort. In his new role, Bour will oversee all of the resort’s restaurants, including Mistral, Market, and La Cantina. Bour will also manage the resort’s day-to-day culinary operations, including special events, group meetings, philanthropic galas, and weddings.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Chef Nicolas to our passionate and talented team,” said Brian Johnson, managing director of Loews Coronado Bay Resort. “Nicolas brings years of exceptional culinary talent and we are excited for him to implement his rich knowledge and expertise into our restaurant concepts and menus.”

Bour, who was born to a French father and American mother, was raised on a working organic farm in New Brunswick, Canada. Meals were made with the day’s harvest, which caused Bour to form an appreciation for the simplest ingredients. After leaving Canada, he came to the United States and sharpened his skills in some of the country’s best restaurants and trained under a succession of storied chefs. During his formative years he worked side by side with James Beard “Best Chef,” Elizabeth Terry (of Elizabeth on 37th fame), Michelin-star chef Guenter Seeger, and acclaimed chef Jean Banchet. While he learned first-hand the concept of farm-to-table from his parents, from these culinary legends he mastered technique and the workings of a professional kitchen. It’s the kind of grueling education that can make or break a young chef—for Bour, the experience enhanced his natural ability to create ambitious, memorable food.

“I’m excited for this next chapter of my culinary career, and I look forward to enhancing the food and beverage programs Loews Coronado Bay Resort already has in place,” said Bour. “With our recent partnership with Suzie’s Farm, located only a few miles from the resort, I am delighted to use my love of organic ingredients to create memorable dining experiences for resort guests and the local community.”

In addition to spending time working with notable chefs, Bour has cooked for numerous celebrities and dignitaries, including two presidents, Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and members of New Orleans Saints. Prior to joining Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Bour created Rancho Bernardo Inn’s signature restaurant Avant. Before that, in 2002, he opened his own restaurant, Iris, the highly acclaimed Atlanta bistro.

New Year New Loews: Coronado Bay Completes Renovation
Posted February 6, 2013
LOBBY AND RESTAURANT RENOVATION COMPLETE HOTEL’S MULTI-YEAR TRANSFORMATION
SAN DIEGO (February 6, 2013) – It’s a New Year, and a New Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

The hotel has completed a complete redesign of its lobby, Bay Terrace, Cays Lounge, Market Café and Market-to-Go, wrapping up a nine-month-long transformation on the heels of additional renovations to the meeting space, corridors and guestroom bathrooms totaling an investment of $12 million over the last three years.

Taking full advantage of the resort’s waterfront location, the new design artfully combines San Diego’s sun and surf with the casual elegance of an oceanfront home.

“Guests who have not stayed with us in recent years will be in awe of the new design and décor,” said Brian Johnson, the hotel’s general manager. “From the moment you walk in, it’s a fresh look for Loews Coronado Bay in 2013: from improved views of the bay from the vibrant new floating bar to game-day screenings of your favorite sports on the new 9-screen media wall in Cay’s Lounge,” he said. “We are making continual and lasting improvements to ensure the hotel remains relevant to modern travelers.”

About the Design
BAMO, a luxury design firm whose portfolio includes some of the world’s finest hotels, describes the style as “lively and fresh” and a place guests will “feel at ease.”

San Diego’s sparkling bay is central to the theme and one of the first things guests will see when entering the new lobby. A two-story chandelier of suspended glass adds center-stage drama to the resort’s grand staircase and projects the time on a new signature clock on the lobby floor, encouraging leisure guests to lose track of time while they savor the seaside resort.

In Cay’s Lounge, a media wall with nine LCD flat-screen televisions broadcasts sporting events, while communal-style bar tables promote casual networking. Outside on the Bay Terrace, oversized teak sofas invite conversation around warm fire pits in the evening hours. The new Cay’s Lounge menu highlights craft cocktails including the Jalapeno Berry Margarita and the Triple Gin Mule, as well as some of San Diego and Coronado’s most cherished local brews on tap.

The resort’s crescent-shaped Market Café boasts panoramic views of the hotel’s 81-slip marina. Cheerful, whimsical design brings fresh colors that reflect the mood and atmosphere of the sunny seaside destination. The restaurant menus were all handcrafted by Executive Chef Mark Ching, who specializes in classic comfort foods, modernized. Day or night, there’s something for everyone to feel right at home. Favorites range from light, local dishes including the Ono Taco and Spicy Ahi Tartare to modern twists on classic dishes like Pot Roast “Deconstructed” and Buttermilk Chicken.

The adjacent Market To Go offers a casual atmosphere for all-day dining. A communal table invites early-birds to plug-in with a cup of coffee in the morning while the cozy bar tucked in the back encourages travelers to unwind with a glass of wine in the evening. Grab-and-go counters offer fresh baked goods throughout the day, as well as a selection of gourmet sandwiches, salads, sweets and snacks.
