JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE Food Truck Lunches
Posted January 12, 2015
JW Marriott L.A. LIVE offers food truck lunches for conventions and groups
Los Angeles, CA – The JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE is offering a new concept for groups and conventions looking to add variety – and a little Angeleno flavor – to their midday meal functions: Gourmet Food Truck Lunch. As an alternative to the traditional convention luncheon, the hotel will work with event planners to host several of the city’s well-known food trucks for a festive, outdoor and very memorable meal break.

“Being able to offer such a uniquely Los Angeles experience to my attendees was a significant selling point,” said Theresa Miller, Corporate Events Manager for Digital River. “Many of our guests had heard about the food truck fad, and were thrilled to have the opportunity to sample some of the famous LA street food. It’s an event that will definitely be remembered!”

The hotel’s Events team work with meeting planners to determine which trucks to feature, and how many items to include per truck menu based on the number of attendees. Trucks park alongside the hotel’s convention center drive or adjacent event deck, and plenty of picnic-table style seating is provided. Guests wander among the parked trucks and order from individually posted menus - just as they would off the street. Since street food portions are traditionally smaller, guests often find themselves sampling multiple trucks – from Korean barbecue tacos to lobster rolls to red velvet chocolate chip pancakes.

“This is a creative way to show off the city’s culinary and cultural diversity, and leverage a popular and fun food movement,” said Karina Moore, Director of Events, JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE. “The cost to host a truck lunch is roughly the same per person as serving a buffet-style meal in one of our meeting rooms – so it’s a very viable option for most planners.”

Los Angeles currently boasts a fleet of more than nine-thousand food trucks, and some of the most talked-about trucks participate, including the Kogi BBQ Truck, The Buttermilk Truck, Coolhaus, Lobsta Truck, Get Shaved Shave Ice, Nom Nom Truck and Baby’s Badass Burgers. Guests can also often find truck fare from popular L.A. chefs – like Susan Feniger’s Border Grill truck, Wolfgang Puck’s Gastrotruck, and Ludo Lefebvre’s Ludo Bites Truck.

The JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE offers 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space – three ballrooms, nine ancillary meeting rooms and three boardrooms. The proximity to the Los Angeles Convention Center combined with the variety of meeting space and number of rooms, makes the JW Marriott an excellent option for convention headquarters.

Ford's Filling Station Opens at JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE

Chef Ben Ford Brings Elevated Comfort Food to Downtown Los Angeles
The JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE today announces the December 8, 2014 opening of Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE, a concept from chef and restaurateur, Ben Ford. An evolution of Ford’s original vision, the signature restaurant showcases sustainable, regional cuisine and a new cocktail program. Developed with both the local community and business traveler in mind, it will be the perfect addition to the downtown Los Angeles neighborhood’s burgeoning culinary scene.

“I’m a loyal Angeleno and am both honored and proud to join the exciting growth of downtown Los Angeles,” said Chef Ford. “This is exactly where the Ford’s Filling Station concept belongs.”

The opening of Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE represents the JW Marriott Los Angeles’ commitment to offering authentic, local experiences with an emphasis on regionally sourced ingredients. Ben Ford draws his culinary inspiration from the abundance of fresh produce, artisanal meats and dairy available through California farms, as well as his travels through the South and Southwest, where he developed a love for grilling, smoking and roasting.

The Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE menu showcases Chef Ford’s unique blend of west coast flavors and southwest influence. An onsite smoker, reclaimed from his previous restaurant in Culver City, fired with a blend of apple, pecan and cherry wood lends exceptional tenderness and flavor to meats; while fruits and vegetables culled from regional farms enhance a carefully curated menu.

Highlighted Offerings at the new Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE include:
• Roasted Jidori Chicken – A nod to Roy Choi and his bold street food movement, the dish comes together with dirty rice, a sunny side up egg and pickled peppers.
• Braised Beef Cheeks – Making its comeback to the Ford’s Filling Station menu after a multi-year hiatus, this Colorado beef is seared and braised, then paired with fregola and roasted vegetables in a truffle-infused.
• Smoked Pork Chop – Tender meat finished with a cider au jus and served with a Brussels sprout-butternut squash hash.

Innovative mixologist and industry leader, Dushan Zaric of New York’s famed Employees Only bar, has developed a food-friendly bar program that is a combination of classic and contemporary – from craft beers and whiskies, to farm-fresh savory cocktails – designed to align with Ford’s menu. Signature cocktails include the Red Leader, a classic ‘shrub’ infusion of beets, lemon juice and sherry vinegar with Tito’s Handmade vodka; Lazy Lover, a jalapeno infused chartreuse and fresh thyme; and Tequila Old Fashioned, which blends brown sugar and orange with Tapatio Blanco 110 for a sweet and citrusy twist on the classic drink.

Designed by Claire Stansfield of Claire Stansfield Design, Ford’s Filling Station’s décor draws from Chef Ford’s farm-to-table philosophy, where each ingredient is chosen for its quality, flavor and versatility. Furniture is a mix of fresh, structured pieces with repurposed items to encapsulate the warm, inviting feeling of home. Organic elements like the reclaimed brick that frames the kitchen is reminiscent of the wood burning fire Chef Ford is known for embracing. Stansfield also harmoniously blends natural elements, such as wooden shutters and sizeable trees with the modern touches of brass fixtures and orb lighting. Prior to joining Chef Ford on the design of the restaurant, Stansfield completed several notable projects, including the patio renovation of famed restaurant, Lucques, and the complete design of the newly relocated restaurant, A.O.C.

Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE is located in the lobby level of the JW Marriott Los Angeles. The restaurant is open for breakfast (daily, 6:30 – 11:00 a.m.), lunch (Mon.-Fri., 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.), dinner (daily, 5:30 – 10:00 p.m.) and brunch (Sat.-Sun., 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). For reservations, please contact the restaurant directly at 213-765-8630.

About Chef Ben Ford and Ford’s Filling Station
Chef Ben Ford officially earned his cooking stripes at some of the country’s most established restaurants and alongside several of America’s most treasured culinary icons before taking on his own restaurant kitchen and earning the prestigious Cochon555 award. Today, he has a successful Ford’s Filling Station located in the Delta Terminal at LAX and Ford’s Filling Station L.A. LIVE at the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles. In May 2014, Ben released his first cookbook, Taming the Feast: Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking, which focuses not only on bringing people together to eat good, sustainable organic food, but gathering lots of people together to eat sumptuous feasts. A nod to his mother’s culinary influence and father’s craftsmanship, Ben adopted the ability to create with his hands, a skill that eventually found its way into his cooking. Ben graduated from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco where he was schooled in the ethos of using local seasonal ingredients by the country’s most prolific organic chef, Alice Waters, at the famed Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California. He returned to Los Angeles and honed his traditional French-cooking techniques as Sous Chef at Eberhard Mueller’s Opus in Santa Monica. After tenures at two seminal Los Angeles restaurants, Campanile and Eclipse, Ben was named Executive Chef and created the concept for The Farm of Beverly Hills. Prior to conceptualizing Ford’s Filling Station, Ben opened Chadwick, a restaurant whose local and seasonal high-end California-Mediterranean menu earned him rave reviews and national acclaim, including a coveted three stars from the Los Angeles Times, one of the first restaurants in Los Angeles to receive this high rating. An active and committed community leader, Cano led the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel to a "Spirit to Serve" Award, an award given by Marriott International for outstanding community service, in 2000.
