JW Marriott Desert Springs Fact Sheet
LOCATION
JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is located in Palm Desert, California, in
the heart of the Coachella Valley. The property is situated on dramatic desert
terrain in one of California’s most desirable communities, surrounded by three
majestic mountain ranges.

OVERVIEW
Situated on 450 acres of lushly landscaped grounds and lagoons, Desert Springs
is a sprawling oasis offering a remarkable contrast to the stark beauty of the
desert. The Four-Diamond, award-winning property opened in February 1987,
and is one of the largest resort and convention complexes in the southwestern
United States. With a $25 million renovation, extensive renovations to the
resort’s acclaimed Palm Course, a Ted Robinson, Jr. designed golf course, and
Valley Golf Course, a refresh of its 884 guestrooms and suites, the addition of new
retail outlets including Sunnyland Chocolate Factory, Desert Shades, and Wallet
World, and the unveiling of new dining options, Rockwood Grill & Blue Star
Lounge and Fisherman’s Landing. Desert Springs’ guestrooms and suites are
located in five-to-eight-story wings overlooking swimming pools, lakes, verdant
fairways, lush English gardens, and manicured lawns. From the moment guests
enter the resort’s breathtaking atrium lobby, they begin a journey into a world of
relaxed elegance, singular amenities, and exemplary service.

The resort’s famous Venetian-inspired waterways allow guests to board gondolas
for transportation to dining, or for afternoon tours past cascading waterfalls
beneath the calls of exotic birds
.
GUESTROOMS AND SUITES
Desert Springs features 884 deluxe accommodations including 51 suites—
ranging from 900 square-foot hospitality suites to two 3,150 square-foot
Chairman’s suites. Each spacious guest room includes a bathroom of granite,
limestone, and Italian marble, with a separate tub and shower. All rooms feature
an iHome audio system, private balcony, movies on demand, a safe, minibar, and
a 37-inch HDTV. Updated in early 2012, the rooms include all new beds and
bedding, artwork, carpet, drapes, paint, and teakwood artisan headboards.
RECREATION The resort features two recently refreshed Ted Robinson-designed 18-hole
championship golf courses; an 18-hole putting course; 20 tennis courts (15 hard,
three clay, and two grass); a 38,000 square-foot spa (featuring a gym, exercise
classes, beauty salon, and a spa shop); the Oasis Pool area with three swimming
pools; basketball courts, lawn croquet; restaurants and lounges; kids’ programs
providing supervised activities for guests aged 4 to 12 years; and child-sitting.

SPA
Spa Desert Springs is an expansive 38,000 square-foot facility with 48 treatment
rooms, a salon, yoga studio, spa bistro, VIP suite, couples’ suite, fitness facilities,
and heated outdoor lap pool. The Spa’s extensive treatment menu gives special
consideration to the healing ingredients and customs of the surrounding Sonoran
Desert, utilizing locally harvested crops (such as citrus and dates) along with
ancient healing traditions. The 600 square-foot VIP suite is staffed by a personal
butler and includes a private entrance, two-person hydrotherapy tub in a private
courtyard, and another tub indoors. The luxurious facility fully embraces the “spa
together” concept; groups can enjoy the “spa within a spa”: a private wing with its
own lounge, treatment rooms, and shower areas.

MEETING FACILITIES
With 210,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting, exhibit,
and banquet spaces, Desert Springs can comfortably accommodate groups of all
sizes. The 24,816 square-foot Desert Ballroom divides into 14 smaller rooms and
sits beside the 21,120 square-foot Springs Ballroom. Each space has superb
acoustics, flexible lighting, 16 to 23-foot high ceilings, and centralized
audio/video and communications controls. Outside each ballroom is ample foyer
space for continental breakfasts, coffee breaks, and receptions. Seven additional
breakout rooms are easily accessible.

Desert Springs recently introduced a number of “green” meetings options for the
eco-minded planner. Following the national “slow foods” trend, Desert Springs
offers sustainable, organic, California produce as a menu option to event
planners. Local vegetables such as savoy cabbage, micro pettit lettuce, and
heirloom tomatoes can be incorporated into group menus. Planners can also
incorporate eco-friendly office products such as recycled notepads and pens,
paperless notebooks (in the form of thumb drives), and water coolers (no water
bottles).

The Chairman’s and President’s Boardrooms are the ideal locales for getting
down to serious business—each is equipped with pop-up power/modem/data
ports; and a central control system for window shades, lights, and projection
screens. The rooms also feature CD and cassette player/recorders and video
conferencing. All indoor meeting space is located on the lobby level of the resort
and is accessible through its own private entrance with covered porte cochere.
The temperature of each room can be adjusted individually via the state-of-the-art
climate control system.

Many events are also held outdoors in the desirable desert climate. Five locations
throughout the resort are ideal for a casual breakfast, lunch, reception, or dinner,
including The Pointe, which is surrounded by a mini-orchard and a view of lakes
and majestic mountains.

The Business Center is located adjacent to the meeting space and provides
desktop publishing, graphic layout and design, full color printing up, faxing,
shipping, copying, and equipment rental. A 24 hour self serve business center is
also available.

DINING
Desert Springs Resort & Spa offers a wide range of options for dining and
imbibing, each with its own ambiance.

Rockwood Grill & Blue Star Lounge
Rockwood Grill, which opened in June 2012, is a sophisticated all-day dining
venue located in the former LakeView Restaurant space. The restaurant features
an upscale-casual menu of diverse American classics made from scratch daily
with locally-sourced ingredients from California’s farms and local purveyors. Blue
Star Lounge, a new bar with an outdoor terrace featuring fire pits and a la carte
seating, creates a truly al fresco experience for guests, offering a memorable
selection of signature margaritas, local microbrews and handcrafted farm-to glass
cocktails.

Fisherman’s Landing
Adding to three existing Fisherman’s Market locations throughout Southern
California, Fisherman’s Landing offers a variety of signature, award-winning
seafood favorites. Fisherman’s Landing, which opened in July 2012, is located
near the Golf Pro Shop, Oasis Pool complex and Colonnade of Shops.

The Lobby Bar
The latest addition to Desert Springs’ offerings is this open-design spot
overlooking vistas of the hotel’s grounds. The bar serves several trios of seasonal,
fruit-filled drinks including a Bellini Tasting that includes peach, raspberry, and
mango; and a Cane Mojito Tasting with raspberry, pomegranate, and traditional
selections. Visitors can also order mini-flights of wine and cognac along with
imaginative small plates such as antipasti and chocolate lollipops, and a full
selection from the adjacent sushi bar.

Mikado is the perfect place for groups and families to bond over Japanese
Teppan-yaki and entertainment. Set amidst soothing Japanese gardens, ponds,

prepare fresh seafood, steak, and chicken dishes. Each entrée is accompanied by a
bowl of miso or tori soup, crisp green salad, Teppan-yaki vegetables, a fresh bowl
of steamed rice, Japanese tea and green tea ice cream for dessert. Guests can also
enjoy lighter fare and specialty drinks at the separate sushi bar.
