Hilton Minneapolis Celebrates 25th Anniversary with $27 Million Transformation

Transformation of Twin Cities’ Largest Hotel
MINNEAPOLIS – June 19, 2017 – Hilton Minneapolis, Minnesota’s largest hotel, is on schedule to complete the final phase of a $27 million renovation. In 2014 the hotel underwent an extensive $13.5 million refresh of its 821 guest rooms. The current phase that began in November encompasses the hotel’s main floor lobby, second and third floor meeting rooms and event space and the launch of a new restaurant concept, Ten 01 Social and the gourmet self-service dining option, Ten 01 Market.
The hotel’s public spaces have been completely transformed, boasting a modern, urban design featuring vibrant contemporary original art, and an open inviting space designed to encourage socializing and interaction.

“We’ve infused this landmark hotel with new energy and relevance in a highly competitive market,” said Ken Jarka, general manager Hilton Minneapolis. “We are truly proud of the transformation, and for those guests who haven’t stayed with us recently, we look forward to having them experience the new wow-factor of Hilton Minneapolis.”

The main floor footprint has been extensively reconfigured by design firm Hirsh/Bedner Associates, Atlanta, which specializes in hotels and CNH Architects of Apple Valley, Minn.
As guests enter the spacious open lobby they are greeted with the sight of a dynamic, 360-degree, central bar with seating for up to 40 people. The bar is surrounded by a combination of contemporary lounge seating and communal tables. The registration desk has been relocated to be more visible as guests enter the hotel and to provide easy access to Ten 01 Market that serves Starbucks® coffee, an assortment of fresh bakery items, locally sourced snacks, freshly-made sandwiches, salads and pizza. Guests will also find gift items from Minnesota.

The designers preserved the original soaring high ceilings and large arching windows of the lobby while showcasing a fresh mix of finishes throughout the space – stone floors and columns with brass metal inlays, black bronze and brass metal accents in lighting and furniture. The light color palette is enhanced with rich walnut and dark chocolate wood finishes and colorful, rich textiles. A striking mixed-material mosaic of stone, wood and metal is the backdrop at the registration desks, along with a dramatic stone feature wall that encases the escalator to the second level meeting spaces.

The second and third-floor meeting space and pre-function areas have been completely refreshed with contemporary finishes and furnishings. The custom original architectural millwork has been updated with a lighter palette and bold carpet designs throughout complemented by decorative modern lighting elements. Soft seating groups and nesting tables in the pre-function gathering area are well-suited for cocktail receptions and gatherings at group functions. The spacious ballroom has been enhanced with sophisticated finishes and elegant, contemporary chandeliers.

In addition, more than 70 pieces of new and original abstract and contemporary artworks adorn the newly renovated spaces, more than half of them by Minnesota artists, creating a subtle connection to the community.

New Restaurant Introduces Out-of-State Visitors to Minnesota’s Bounty
Ten 01 Social, the hotel’s new restaurant, allows guests to sit virtually anywhere on the main floor and enjoy traditional dining service. Developed by Executive Chef Julian Grainger, the menu is a blend of classic and creative fare with dishes showcasing indigenous ingredients such as Steelhead served with a maple-soy glaze, Peruvian blue potato, roasted cauliflower and broccolini, and Garganelli Pasta with nettle pistou, basil, wild mushrooms and sundried tomatoes alongside traditional comfort foods like Roasted Buttermilk Chicken. It’s designed to satisfy both those looking for something familiar as well as those seeking a bit of culinary adventure.

“Our goal was to take authentic Minnesota fare that guests might not be familiar with and enhance it with regional culinary trends,” said Grainger.

Minnesota’s Modern Landmark Hotel
When Hilton Minneapolis opened in 1992 it was the largest convention hotel in the five-state area with 821 guest rooms and the city’s large hotel ballroom spanning 25,000 square feet accommodating up to 2,500 people. Now, 25 years later, many hotels have joined the Twin Cities’ skyline and Hilton Minneapolis maintains its ranking as the region’s largest hotel.
