Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Wrigley chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr., founded the Catalina Country Club in 1921 on Santa Catalina Island off the Southern California coast. Built in Avalon as the spring training home for the Chicago Cubs, which he also owned, the architecture epitomized the early California–revival style then in its heyday. Only a plaque marks where the Cubs played from 1921 to 1951, but abundant Cubs memorabilia and the building remain.
Still owned by Wrigley's Santa Catalina Island Company, the newly renovated club provides a wealth of options for staging meetings and events. Venues include the Main Dining Room for up to 100 people, the Boardroom for up to 45, and the Avalon Bay Room for up to 50. Groups reserving the entire club also have a convivial pub all to themselves—plus the island's golf course just steps away. Groups requiring overnight accommodations have have a variety of options available through the Santa Catalina Island Company.
