Atlantis, Paradise Island Unveils Three New Bahamian Culinary Offerings at Resort’s Marina Village
Posted November 28, 2017
Resort has collaborated with local businesses, Frankie Gone Bananas, McKenzie’s Conch Shack and Pirate Republic Brewery, to create culturally authentic dining experiences for guests
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – November 28, 2017 – Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas has unveiled three new, local-infused dining concepts at the resort’s Marina Village marketplace. Staying true to the resort’s commitment to nurture the Bahamian entrepreneurial community and immerse guests in authentic experiences, the entry of local restaurants Frankie Gone Bananas, McKenzie’s Conch Shack and Pirate Republic brewery, provides local business owners with a platform to share the various tastes, culture and spirit of the country with guests and visitors of Atlantis.

Reasonably priced and conveniently located on-property, each of the new outposts at Marina Village paint a vivid picture of Bahamian culinary traditions. From signature fish fry platters and freshly prepared conch salads to endless flights of Bahamian-crafted beer, patrons of these new restaurants and experiences can live like a “tru tru” local without having to physically leave the resort.

Frankie Gone Bananas: Fish Fry Experience
Frankie Gone Bananas brings a taste of the island’s rich culinary flavors to Atlantis. A favorite of Nassau residents for years (with its original location situated at Arawak Cay), Frankie’s is renowned for its fish fry – the flavourful marriage of fresh seafood and spices battered and fried to perfection. The new Marina Village outpost offers guests a range of Bahamian dishes, from Coconut ‘n Kalik Soup (infused with local beer), Mahi Mahi and cracked conch to fresh lobster tail accompanied by signature island staples: peas ‘n rice, mac n’ cheese and fried plantains. Guests of Frankie’s can also sip on Bahamian cocktails infused with specialty ingredients, which include the rum-based Goombay Smash, a secret recipe which originated in the out island of Abaco, and “Sky Juice,” a traditional blend of Gin, coconut water and sweet milk that locals can’t live without.

McKenzie’s: Fresh Conch Salads
Famous for having some of the best conch salad in Nassau, McKenzie’s Conch Shack has opened its first outpost at Marina Village, featuring the same live conch preparation as featured at the original location in Potters Cay. Guests of McKenzie’s are encouraged to pull up a bar stool as they watch local Chefs prepare their conch salads (said to be an aphrodisiac) with fresh, local citrus. The shack also serves Sands authentic Bahamian beer, a variety of mixed drinks and original daiquiri recipes.

Pirate Republic Brewery: Bahamian Craft Beer
Rated one of the best micro-breweries in the Caribbean and currently the only craft brewery in the country, Pirate Republic offers guests a variety of local beers, complemented by “bar talk” about the history of pirates in The Bahamas and surrounding islands. The first outpost of the original Nassau location, the brewery features drafts and flights from Pirate Republic’s signature menu, ranging from the Black Beer’d Stout (chocolate malt), to the iconic Island Pirate Ale (flagship Bahamian India Pale Ale) and Gold & Haze of Piracy (wheat-based Belgian Ale). Pirate Republic’s light bites range from fresh jerk chicken to ahi tuna and a specialty sausage menu.

“Our commitment to bringing local culture, flavors and tradition to Atlantis has allowed us to discover some incredible partners to contribute to the overall casual dining experience at the Resort. The additions of Frankie Gone Bananas, McKenzie’s and Pirate Republic at Atlantis not only encourage guests to have a more authentic island experience focused on the distinct tastes of The Bahamas, but it also simultaneously creates new economic opportunities and creative platforms for local entrepreneurs,” says Audrey Oswell, President & Managing Director of Atlantis Paradise Island.

“We are fully committed to the cultural development of the resort, through immersive experiences, interactions and educational activities related to the country’s cuisine, history, and art. By attaching the Atlantis name and stamp of approval to these local
brands, I am very hopeful that our connection to the world will continue to present opportunities for these entrepreneurs even beyond The Bahamas,” continued Oswell.
The new dining options join a series of regional experiences and interactions that recently debuted at Marina Village, including an Art Walk where guests can support local Bahamian artisans as well as sample locally grown and made products, seasonal festivals featuring performances by Bahamian musicians (including Junkanoo) and a variety of local culinary offerings at other parts of the resort. Recently, local Chef Wayne Moncur opened Sun & Ice, a farm-to-table Bahamian gelato parlor, at the newly renovated The Coral, while Chef Julie Lightbourn debuted the first official outpost of Sip Sip at the brand new poolscape at The Cove.

BAHAMIAN CHEF WAYNE MONCUR OPENS SUN & ICE - EXCLUSIVE ICE CREAM, GELATO & SORBET EXPERIENCE AT ALL NEW THE CORAL
Posted August 7, 2017
With a fresh, new design, The Coral unveils the resort’s first-ever Bahamian ice cream parlor as part of Atlantis’ continued commitment to nurturing the talent, tastes, sounds and creativity from across the islands of The Bahamas
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Atlantis, Paradise Island is proud to introduce Sun & Ice, a new ice cream, gelato and sorbet experience created by Bahamian Chef and New Providence native, Wayne Moncur. Now open at The Coral, Sun & Ice is inspired by The Bahamas’ warm tropical climate and the unconventional fusing of local fruits and flavors. The centerpiece of the new lobby lounge, Sun & Ice is the first element to be unveiled as part of The Coral’s complete renovation and re-branding.

First introduced to the Bahamian market in 2008 by Chef Wayne, and reflective of his childhood memories of weekly Sunday visits to the ice-cream parlor with his family, Sun & Ice was created as a “farm to table” concept. The ice creams, gelatos and sorbets created by Chef Wayne consist of simple ingredients such as fresh cream, milk and pure cane sugar coupled with the organic wonders of the island, ranging from seasonal Bahamian fruits to teas, herbs, seeds and spices. Each of these ingredients is thoughtfully selected by Chef Wayne who travels frequently to local farms and gardens throughout the country to create what he defines as “flavorful island simplicity.”

Of the partnership with Atlantis, he said, “I am very excited to be joining forces with Atlantis to share with our visitors a taste of the wonderful sweetness of The Bahamas, my home. I am looking forward to taking them on a sensory tour of these blessed islands, through Sun & Ice, complete with unique flavors and exclusive culinary experiences. People will be able to walk into Sun & Ice and see our beloved island culture come alive to tell a story. They will be able to learn about the local farmer who provided that day’s fresh sapodilla fruit from his tree, for our seasonal flavor, and they can taste featured flavors like the one in honour of the Bahamian flag, complete with mangola, black sesame seed and blueberry.”

Howard C. Karawan, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, Paradise Island added, “Atlantis has always been in The Bahamas and now, The Bahamas is truly in Atlantis. This is the year of new, immersive cultural experiences celebrate our 7500 proud Bahamian associates, local chefs, artists and culture. We are beyond proud of our island home and the traditions that continue to be woven into each layer of the resort. There is no better person than Chef Wayne, a true resort ambassador, to help tell guests the story of the Bahamian culture that exists within us by creating fun, culinary experiences.”

Sun & Ice’s ice cream, gelato and sorbet flavors are made fresh, in-house daily, staying true to Chef Wayne’s vision of quality. Unique flavors range from Soursop & Caramelized Sugar Banana to Sapodilla & Maple, Benny Cake Crumble, and Allspice Potato Bread & Coconut Candy. Guests will find the perfect combination of sweet and savory as they order up sorbet consisting of Pineapple & Thyme or take heaping spoonfuls of Mango Skin Gelato, designed with the simplest of ingredients, Mangola & Avocado. Guava and Sea Grape, two island favorites of Chef Wayne, round off his menu that is filled with unique ingredients.

However, it is not only these unconventional ingredients that make Sun & Ice authentically Bahamian, but also the names given to some of the flavors as well. Every scoop has a story in Chef Wayne’s kitchen. A scoop of “Irie Nuts” features roasted peanuts, almonds, and pecans combined with creamy goodness. The flavor was inspired by the small bags of roasted nuts commonly sold on street corners by the Bahamian Rastafarians who weave in and out of traffic, shouting “Nuts, nuts! Get your Irie Nuts!” The fusion of Soursop & Caramelized Sugar Banana is called “Yea Bey,” an expression in the Bahamian vernacular that simply means “Yes” or “I love it.” It also wouldn’t be “TRU TRU” Bahamian (the colloquial term for real or authentic) without rum flavours such as “Funky Nassau,” “Bahama Rock” and “Rat Bat,” in honor of local music – the heartbeat of The Bahamas.

Primed to welcome its first guests later this summer, accommodations at The Coral at Atlantis will provide an environment that allows kids to have fun and adults the chance to relax. Wrapped in ocean hues and soft palettes of coral and sandy golds, renovated guest rooms with new category options will offer a serene beach atmosphere. New exclusive programming will include pint-sized amenities such as games and robes, and an in-room fridge with the ability to pre-purchase snacks. Set to launch this fall, The Coral will offer a new pool with family-friendly water activities, cabanas and a swim-up bar designed by renowned Jeffrey Beers of Jeffrey Beers International (JBI). A family concierge will be available for itinerary planning so you don't miss any experiences. Sun & Ice is located in the newly designed lobby of The Coral. The ice cream parlor is open to guests seven days a week from 11:30 AM – 10:30 PM daily.

Recipe: Chef Wayne’s “Goombay Soda Sorbet”
6 Cups - Cold Bahamian Goombay Punch Soda
1 Cup - Granulated Sugar
1 Cup - 100 % Pineapple Juice
Juice of 2 Lemons
1 oz. Natural Yellow food color (optional)
Combine all ingredients and heat in saucepan over low heat until sugar dissolves. Chill in refrigerator for one hour, then follow manufacturer's instructions on turning sorbet in your ice cream machine at home.

RENOWNED HARBOUR ISLAND RESTAURANT SIP SIP TO OPEN FIRST OUTPOST AT THE COVE
Posted June 19, 2017
The Cove will Unveil Bahamian Hot Spot Sip Sip with Beachfront Dining Experience in November 2017
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Iconic Harbour Island restaurant Sip Sip will open its first outpost location at the ultra-exclusive The Cove on Paradise Island, Bahamas this November. Bahamian Chef Julie Lightbourn will bring her “Caribterranean” menu – “Bahamian but with a twist” – to The Cove’s brand new, redesigned poolscape with two restaurants – one poolside and one on the beach, on Paradise Beach.

To enhance the dining experience, and to help replicate the spirit of Sip Sip Harbour Island and its sea-facing deck, well-known Bahamian architect, Mark Henderson, in conjunction with Jeffrey Beers, have been tapped to design the dining terrace and beachfront deck, bringing guests into a fantastic, al fresco, long-lunch paradise by the resort’s breathtaking turquoise waters.

The premier, no-reservations lunch spot on Harbour Island, earning international buzz for the past 15 years, Sip Sip is known for its barefoot Bahamian feel and welcoming environment where everyone feels like a local. Staying true to its original vision and design, Sip Sip will offer a culinary experience featuring the freshest and the best of what The Bahamas has to offer at the new Paradise Island location. The restaurant uses locally sourced seasonal ingredients and is committed to supporting Bahamian culinary traditions by working directly with local fishermen and farmers.

Chef Julie Lightbourn commented, "My husband and I dreamed of having a place that was true to Harbour Island's legacy of friendly hospitality, a place where locals and tourists would come for a home-grown, Bahamian-inspired meal and the perfect rum punch. We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with The Cove to bring the spirit and tastes of Sip Sip Harbour Island to Paradise Island.” She added, “It’s even more exciting that the resort wants to capture our open-air, laid-back vibe, feature Bahamian artwork, and the new beach deck overlooking The Cove’s lovely beach and the turquoise water will be the icing on the cake!"

The name “Sip Sip” is a play on words that takes guests from thoughts of sipping tropical cocktails to the discovery that sip sip is Bahamian slang for “gossip.” The design team will bring the restaurant’s vibrant tropical colors and fun, beachy feel together with intimate, locally-inspired design, genuine Family Island hospitality, the spirit of historic Bahamian architecture and locally-sourced, home-grown food. Sip Sip at The Cove will deliver a fresh, modern take on the original restaurant.

The new bars at Sip Sip Paradise Island will incorporate elements of the original, using Sip Sip’s trademark green and blue colors, traditional white louvers, and playful director chairs. The patio restaurant and bar will translate the essence of The Bahamas throughout its outdoor dining area, where Henderson will use white wood shutters, mahogany bar tops, and art made from buoys salvaged from Bahamian beaches. As Sip Sip has long supported local artists and shown their works in the restaurant, new pieces from many of these same artists will be incorporated into the new design.

At the new Sip Sip outpost, the menu will feature much-loved favorites like the Spicy Conch Chili and Curried Chicken Salad, the cult classic Lobster Quesadilla, and the Sunday special, “Boil” Fish with homemade johnnycake. Dishes featuring limited fresh or seasonal ingredients, from Bahamian-grown arugula and heirloom tomatoes to pineapples and mangoes, will be on the blackboard menu and will change daily. Chef Lightbourn’s passion for savory, sweet and spicy “Caribterranean” flavors will shine through in the new, exclusive recipes created just for The Cove, while popular “sips” will include the signature Sip Sip Rum Punch, Sip Sip Sky Juice, a trio of Sip Sip Margaritas, Passion Fruit Sangria and the Watermelon-Vodka Cooler. The famous Sip Sip Carrot Cake with Ginger Caramel will also be served, along with homemade ice creams and Fresh Coconut Cream Cheesecake.

Howard C. Karawan, President and Managing Director of The Cove and Atlantis, Paradise Island resorts, added, “When conceptualizing our new ‘Come to Life’ vision, with the intention of supporting and bringing out the authentic Bahamian culture, we sought out Chef Julie to instill the spirit of the surrounding family islands to our resort in Paradise Island. Sip Sip is the perfect addition to The Cove and we are looking forward to bringing Julie’s delicious and inspired local cuisine to our guests.”

Although famous for its no reservations policy, guests at The Cove and The Reef will have a seat of their choice within the restaurant or on the outdoor decks overlooking the ocean. Lunch service will also be offered to those renting cabanas at The Cove Pool for the day as well as all poolside service. Initially opening for lunch only, Sip Sip will expand into evening private cabana dining.

ATLANTIS BLUE PROJECT FOUNDATION OUT PLANT CORALS TO AREA DESTROYED BY HURRICANE MATTHEW
Posted June 8, 2017
Atlantis, Paradise Island Supports Ocean and Marine Initiatives on World Oceans Day
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (June 8, 2017) – Today, Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas completes a successful two day harvesting and out planting of corals to three coral reefs off New Providence that were destroyed last year by Hurricane Matthew. As part of Atlantis’ established commitment to the flourishing Bahamian ecology, this effort continues to expand the sustainability of one of the nation’s natural resources, the ocean. This ongoing project, an initiative of the nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization - Atlantis Blue Project Foundation (ABPF) - helps rehabilitate damaged coral reefs by growing small coral fragments to repopulate reefs that have been eliminated through disease, hurricanes, or bleaching. Since its inception more than 10 years ago, the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation has generated over $5 million through funding from Atlantis guests’ participation in the resort’s marine adventures and is dedicated to saving sea species and their extraordinary habitats throughout The Bahamas and surrounding Caribbean seas.

With the help of Atlantis Marine team members, The Bahamas National Trust, The Nature Conservancy, BREEF, Stuart Cove’s and Dr. Craig Dahlgren, Director of the Perry Institute for Marine Science/coral reef scientist, the team harvested 150 pieces of finger coral from one of Atlantis’ two on-property nurseries and 100 pieces of staghorn coral from nurseries established by The Nature Conservancy and managed by Stuart Cove's. The corals, as 2 inch fragments or cuttings from naturally occurring corals and placed on lines or tree structures at the nurseries, were monitored as they grew at rates faster than they normally do on reefs. Once the corals were deemed healthy and large enough, they were placed back on the coral reefs in the ocean through multiple dives to sites that have been degraded by storm damage and human impacts.

“The ongoing coral nursery project at Atlantis presents an opportunity to educate people about the importance of coral reefs in The Bahamas,” said Debra Erickson, Executive Director of the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation. “We are very proud of our established nurseries and our on-going efforts to help repopulate areas that have lost their coral.”

As an ocean resort, Atlantis has a meaningful connection with the #sea and is committed to protecting and restoring the surrounding ecology of the breathtaking Bahamas. In celebration of #WorldOceansDay, Atlantis employees are coming together for company-wide beach clean-ups and are supporting several guest activations to help bring awareness to the resort’s year-around ocean conservation efforts including educational seminars and interactive experiences.

The Bahamas has more coral reef area than any other country in the region and one of the largest coral reefs in the world. Coral’s sustainability is vital to the marine ecosystem as they provide food and shelter for other marine life, in addition to helping protect shorelines and preserve beaches. By funding scientific research, conservation programs and community outreach efforts, ABPF’s mission is to protect the waters and its vast marine wildlife, ensuring that The #Bahamas will remain a haven for a myriad of unique, rare and endangered species for generations to come. To date, the foundation has assisted in several coral reef out plantings as well as expanding the Marine Protected Area on Andros Island in The Bahamas to add more than one million acres to the park, protecting the entire western side of the
island.

Developed as educational tools that will be used to increase public awareness about coral reef ecosystems, The Nature Conservancy and Perry Institute of Marine Science are releasing a ten-minute documentary and a public service announcement (PSA) today. Made possible by support from the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, the documentary highlights the importance of and threats to corals, reef fish and benthic habitats and the value of establishing marine protected areas (MPAs) to preserve diverse marine ecosystems. Vivid imagery of local coral reef ecosystems in conjunction with interviews of conservation and industry partners were used to communicate the interdependency between healthy
functioning coral reefs and Bahamian livelihoods.

The Atlantis Blue Project Foundation continues to work with its partners to develop innovative ways to protect the Bahamian waters and wildlife.

PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (April 24, 2017) – Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas will unveil the complete renovation of Coral Towers this July and a fully transformed Marina Village this fall. Reservations open today for summer travel. Long known as a distinct mecca for #family entertainment and its breathtaking beaches, Atlantis will introduce cutting edge offerings and creative amenities to continue driving its status as the top family travel #vacation destination where fun, education, culture and purpose come together.

“We’ve taken a step back to look to the future of Atlantis and truly understand what motivates today’s travelers to choose a destination,” said Howard C. Karawan, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, Paradise Island. “This July, we will introduce the newly renovated Coral Towers at Atlantis along with a brand new Marina Village this fall that will allow our guests to connect with Bahamian culture.”

NEW ROOMS, NEW LOBBY, NEW POOL
A relaxed, family escape begins when guests enter the new Lobby Lounge designed in corals, teals, with woven chairs clustered to engage conversation. The centerpiece of the Lobby is a Soda Fountain serving milkshakes, espresso and coffee drinks, cocktails, patisserie and gelato. Opened throughout the day and evening, the Soda Fountain will offer the option to gather to play a game, share a story or taste new signature items.

The redesigned contemporary rooms and suites are wrapped in ocean hues and soft palettes of coral and sandy golds, highlighting a serene beach atmosphere. Furnished with modern, light grey tile flooring, mahogany wood-based furniture and decor, chic white bedding and textured headboards, rooms are framed with crisp window treatments reflective of the Bahamian sun. Room categories include King and Double Queen Beds to accommodate families and have a variety of views including Terrace, Harbor and Water view. Guest bathrooms feature new flooring, vanity accents and modern showers and bathtubs. The corridors, a prelude to guest rooms, will be draped in warm-toned carpeting and ocean-inspired lighting and artwork.

Exclusive amenities will include pint-sized robes and an in-room refrigerator with the ability to pre-purchase snacks.

The new, sparkling blue and white poolscape, designed by renowned architect Jeffrey Beers of Jeffrey Beers International (JBI), will provide a stunning environment with private cabanas, family-friendly water activities and a swim-up bar featuring locally-made, preservative-free frozen treats prepared daily with Bahamian fruit.

THE NEW MARINA VILLAGE
The new Marina Village will curate the best of the #Bahamas – a celebration of the culture, taste and spirit of the country. Foodies, guests and locals can partake in regional experiences and interactions, savoring local flavors, shopping from island artisans during weekend markets and seasonal festivals featuring performances by Bahamian musicians. This fall, Marina Village will open and feature local favorites such as an authentic fish fry; the Bahamas’ Best conch salad and a craft beer from a local brewery served in a tasting hall.

This April, Atlantis launched Art Walk, a market every other Saturday where guests can support local Bahamian artisans as well as sample locally grown and made products. Marina Village will continue to feature seasonal festivals such as Junkanoo, a meaningful traditional parade filled with dancers and musicians deeply rooted in Bahamian history. The combination of these tastes, sights, sounds and immersive learning opportunities will allow guests to depart with a true sense of the Bahamas’ spirit and culture.

Cora Towers launches major renovations and rebrand
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (August 22, 2016) – Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas has launched its first phase of a $20 million transformation at what is currently known as the Coral Towers. Once all renovations are complete, the hotel will re-open as The Corals Atlantis, a new modern hotel for the resort’s group, leisure, and casino guests, designed by Bilkey LLinas Design (BLD).

“This renovation marks a significant step in our long term vision for Atlantis,” said Paul Burke, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, Paradise Island. “Atlantis consists of five unique hotels from the ultra-luxury of The Cove Atlantis to the casual relaxed atmosphere of the Beach Tower. With The Corals, we will create an expressive and social enclave that goes beyond a rejuvenated room product by introducing a new adults-only pool concept and a modernized lobby experience. These new elements and offerings will appeal to our group customers as well as couples and young adults looking for a getaway to one of the most beautiful resorts in the world.”

The Corals will serve as a sleek, modern Atlantis social hub, from the see-and-be-seen hotel lobby to the adults-only Blu Pool. The Blu Pool will be reimagined by acclaimed interior architect Jeffrey Beers of Jeffrey Beers International (JBI), the same designer who conceived The Cove’s chic adult-only poolscape Cain at The Cove. Exclusive to guests of The Corals, the new and versatile pool concept will allow day and nighttime usage and will introduce poolside cabanas, whimsical floating daybeds, outdoor dining, and a live DJ spinning in order to elevate the guest experience.

When conceptualizing the renovation, the amazing location of The Corals was important to recognize as it is steps away from the Atlantis marina, world-class shopping, the Atlantis Casino, and the resort’s state-of-the-art conference center. “From a group perspective, we are excited The Corals will reintroduce Atlantis to our group market segment because we will now have a hotel that fits the needs of our groups just 100 feet away from our conference facilities,” said Marcy Miles, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Wrapped in ocean hues and soft palettes of coral and sandy golds, the new rooms for The Corals invite guests to indulge in a serene beach vibe. Furnished with brand-new light grey tile flooring, mahogany wood-based furniture and decor, chic white bedding and textured headboards, The Corals guest rooms will offer a contemporary and comfortable experience. Not only will the room design be accented with bronze and mirrored furnishings, rooms will be complimented by modern décor and crisp window treatments reflective of the Bahamian sun. Guest bathrooms will also get a makeover with new flooring, vanity accents and modern shower tiling. The corridors, a prelude to guest rooms, will be draped in warm-toned carpeting and ocean-inspired wall sconces and artwork.

This initial phase of renovations is slated to be complete by spring 2017. During this initial renovation, some rooms, lobby, and guest amenities will remain opened and operational. Atlantis’ anticipated second phase of renovations will be a lobby transformation and new dining concept to begin in early 2017. The resort will share more details of the next phase in the coming months.

The Corals renovation project follows in the footsteps of the resort’s recent property upgrades

A New Treasure for the Autograph Collection
Posted July 2, 2014
Caribbean’s Most Popular Destination Resort -- Atlantis, Paradise Island -- to Join Marriott International Hotel Portfolio
BETHESDA, MD, USA – JULY 2, 2014 – Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAR) announced today that the iconic Atlantis, Paradise Island resort will become part of its Autograph Collection, a rapidly growing exclusive portfolio of over 60 independent lifestyle hotels in key locations across the globe. Regarded as the premiere destination resort in The Bahamas and Caribbean, the 3,400 room Atlantis, Paradise Island will operate under a franchise agreement with Marriott and benefit from the company’s global sales and reservations organization, 45-million strong Marriott Rewards loyalty program and Marriott.com which generates more than $9.6 billion in gross room bookings annually. Atlantis marks the collection’s first member resort in The Bahamas and will be the largest hotel in the portfolio. The property, owned by Brookfield Asset Management and independently managed, is expected to officially join the Autograph Collection in the fall.

“Having Atlantis, Paradise Island join our Autograph Collection is a milestone achievement for the brand and the company,” said Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, Inc. “We are excited to partner with Brookfield and put the full power of Marriott behind one of the world’s most spectacular and popular resorts, while adding to our global resort portfolio in a key destination where we know our guests want to travel.”

“This a significant milestone for us today as Marriott International not only marks its entry into the Bahamas, but also celebrates our 80th hotel in the Caribbean and Latin America’s rapid growing portfolio,” said Craig Smith, president of the Caribbean and Latin America region for Marriott International. “This is an exciting time for hotel development in the region, where we have over 50 hotels under development and expectations to have over 150 hotels by 2017 across ten lodging brands in 27 countries and territories”.

“This agreement to partner with the Autograph Collection could arguably be the single most significant tourism stimulus for The Bahamas in this decade. This strategic and beneficial partnership will help grow visitation of Marriott International loyalists to the country and open a broader channel for guests to visit Atlantis from around the world,” said George Markantonis, president and managing director of Brookfield Hospitality and Atlantis, Paradise Island.

Atlantis is a unique, ocean-themed destination offering a variety of guest accommodations; 40 restaurants, bars and lounges to satisfy any palate; the largest and most exciting casino in The Bahamas; extensive meeting facilities; and a marina capable of handling yachts, all built around a 141-acre waterscape comprised of fresh and saltwater lagoons, pools and habitats. Atlantis rises magically from the turquoise lagoons and blue Atlantic of The Bahamas, and is known worldwide as a resort destination that has truly redefined entertainment and gaming in the tropics.

The addition of Atlantis, Paradise Island is the latest example of Marriott’s aggressive strategy to grow its lifestyle portfolio and inspire many of the world’s premier properties to partner with Autograph Collection. Across all its brands in 2013, Marriott International opened nearly 26,000 new rooms, signed a record 387 projects with 67,000 rooms, and at year end had more than 195,000 rooms under development across five continents. Fueling this success is Marriott’s extensive portfolio of 18 brands, the broadest in the lodging industry. Nearly 25 percent of the company’s overall development pipeline is in the luxury and lifestyle category, with plans to add more than 200 hotels over the next several years reflecting more than $15 billion of investment by owners and franchisees.

Atlantis will operate under a long term franchise agreement and Marriott will provide a $100 million mezzanine loan to the project.

The vision behind the Autograph Collection is to offer an evolving group of passionately independent hotel experiences ranging from a 15-room boutique hunting lodge in the mountains of Colorado to a 19th century neoclassical palace in the majestic city of Prague. Exactly like nothing else, each hotel is thoughtfully chosen for its quality, originality, bold character and capacity to offer today’s modern traveler a range of unique experiences suited to their individual sense of style and adventure. While still relatively new, the distinct portfolio has proven to be a highly successful venture due to its discerning selection process and unique ability to create memories through enriching travel experiences.

To celebrate the debut of their new Instagram account, Autograph Collection has launched a summer competition to highlight the best of the season through photography. Entrants are being encouraged to share a photo of their favorite travel essential and tag it with #summerautograph to qualify for the grand prize: a trip for two to New York City’s Carlton Hotel. ATLANTIS, PARADISE ISLAND UNVEILS NEW BEACHSIDE EVENT SPACE AND MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR GUESTROOM RENOVATION
Posted March 14, 2014
Paradise Island, BAHAMAS – Atlantis, Paradise Island recently added to its impressive offerings for groups with the debut of a new outdoor event space, Ocean’s Edge at The Cove, and renovations to the Coral Tower and Royal Towers guestrooms. Both updates contribute to the iconic resort’s robust list of amenities.
The official opening of Ocean’s Edge at The Cove last month marks the 22nd outdoor event venue at Atlantis, emphasizing the resort’s status as the ultimate beach meetings destination. Ocean’s Edge, located next to Paradise Beach, provides an ideal setting for groups of 200-plus guests seeking a private yet elaborate setting for their event. Adjacent to Atlantis’ on-site luxury condo hotel, The Reef Atlantis, Ocean’s Edge boasts a beautifully landscaped event lawn, enormous ocean-side beach deck, and an outdoor patio for function space. The venue’s strategic layout allows flexibility for everyone, whether an exclusive executive board meeting or a large farewell dinner.

Groups enjoying an event at Ocean’s Edge can return to recently renovated rooms in the Coral or Royal Towers. Following an $8 million upgrade, guestrooms and suites have been revamped with a fresh color scheme and sleek furniture to create a more modern and inviting space. The room décor combines a contemporary and tropical feel with a monochromatic style of soft blue and grey hues, muted tones in the carpet, bed skirt, and drapes, and artworks of seashell lithographs and framed sea fans. New 42-inch LG LED televisions have been installed, while solid wood furniture with carved tropical leaves and cherry hues add an elegant flair. The hotel’s remodel also included new flooring treatments, upgrades to the elevator landings and extra cozy seating areas.

In addition to the new outdoor event space and renovated guestrooms, Atlantis welcomed another new venue that further enhances its meetings and groups offerings. Todd English’s signature Mediterranean restaurant, Olives, opened in June 2013 greeting guests with fresh seafood entrees and handmade pasta dishes. Groups can host an event in either of Olives’ two private dining rooms, with accommodations for either 14 or 34 people. Rounding out the resort’s catalogue of new restaurants and bars is the casino lounge, The Moon Club, featuring signature cocktails, an extensive wine collection, a plethora of draft beer options and a selection of cigars.
Since 2007, Atlantis has added 100,000 square feet to its conference center including the 50,000-square foot Imperial Ballroom (the largest in the Caribbean). This expansion encompasses 30,000 square feet of pre-function space and the conference center’s 26 breakout rooms. Also joining the resort’s lengthy list of meeting spaces are two 900-square foot executive boardrooms, located within the resort’s newest guestroom tower, The Cove Atlantis.

TODD ENGLISH’S OLIVES ARRIVES AT ATLANTIS, PARADISE ISLAND IN ITS FIRST CARRIBEAN VENTURE
Posted August 22, 2013
Fresh Seafood and Modern Mediterranean Fare Await at Olives Atlantis
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Renowned Chef Todd English introduced his famed Olives restaurant to Atlantis, Paradise Island on July 9. Olives Atlantis features his signature open kitchen and Mediterranean cuisine and provides a social and interactive dining experience for guests in the bustling Atlantis Casino. Designed by world-renowned interior architect and designer Jeffrey Beers, the restaurant is Olives’ first in the Caribbean.

“We are thrilled to welcome yet another celebrity chef to the Atlantis dining experience - Todd English’s Olives,” says George Markantonis, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, Paradise Island. “Olives will provide our guests with a taste of the Mediterranean in paradise. We are proud to add a restaurant of this caliber to our current world-class culinary roster.”

Olives Atlantis offers a warm, casual dining experience with a three-meal-a-day menu, featuring world-renowned chef Todd English’s signature interpretive Mediterranean cuisine, as well as a variety of coastal dishes, each prepared using high-quality, seasonal and fresh ingredients. Olives Atlantis features an expansive open kitchen where English’s team prepares dishes from a rotisserie grill where guests enjoy made-to-order cuts of meat and grilled fish such as the fresh catch–of-the-day. The Raw Bar offers a large fresh seafood display with daily offerings of shellfish, clams and oysters, and a wood-burning oven which showcases English’s infamous thin-crust flatbread pizzas. Our one-of-a-kind Italian-made SuperNova pasta machine produces a selection of fresh, handmade pasta dishes daily that will entice and delight patrons. Guests can also sit and sip on Olives’ award-winning wines and delicious cocktails, as they take in the energy and excitement of the Atlantis Casino. The restaurant is opened until 3:00AM to satisfy late-night dining requests for those guests in the Casino or Atlantis’ adult nightclub, Aura.

“I’m excited to be collaborating with Atlantis to bring my Olives brand to the islands, and to capture a brand new dining audience,” said Chef Todd English. “I always look forward to collaborating with Jeffrey Beers who has designed many of my restaurants across the U.S. Together, with his design inspiration, I look to create a casual, yet exciting dining experience suitable for everyone– whether you’re seeking a quick and delicious lunch, an intimate and elegant couples dinner, or a leisurely and fun meal with family and friends.”

Olives Atlantis features a remarkable 6,850 square-foot interior with large vaulted ceilings and a rustic décor by Jeffrey Beers. From the buzzing social bar entrance with slot machine gaming to the private dining section, Olives Atlantis is designed to provide a rich, comfortable experience for all guests including families, late-night diners and casino patrons. The custom, oversized candelabras and wall sconces deliver glimmering elegance with the soft twinkling of lights while rich wood beams and textured brick ceilings bring a sense of Mediterranean style; these materials are complemented by custom carpet inspired by ceramic tile designs and decorative limestone floor tile. Guests can enjoy scenic views of the Atlantis Marina on the outdoor terrace while waiting before being shown to one of the restaurant’s 268-seats. Warm tones carry throughout the space, especially in the private dining rooms, where the walls are pumpkin-colored Venetian plaster detailed with antique mirrors. It was important to the design that every seat in the main dining room has a view of the open expo kitchen, a Todd English signature element.

“I love working with Todd, and on this collaboration at Atlantis we had an immediate boost from our excellent experience - and mutual respect - working on other Todd English projects,” says Jeffery Beers. Olives Atlantis captures the essence of the original Olive’s restaurant in Boston, blending a rustic Mediterranean aesthetic with a Caribbean sensibility and the excitement of being at a casino. It’s thrilling to see a fresh interpretation of Olives at the Atlantis resort; I am really proud of the design, and of the entire team. "

Olives Atlantis joins the ranks of some of Atlantis’ favorite dining outposts from around the world including Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s famed restaurant, Nobu, to the vibrant Southwestern cuisine of Bobby Flay’s nationally-acclaimed Mesa Grill or 3-starred Michelin Chef Jean Georges-Vongerichten’s Café Martinique.
