Temecula, California – April 28, 2016: South Coast Winery Owner/Vintner Jim Carter kicked off the 2016 Wine Competition Season in grand form this year when he and his talented winemaking team, Jon McPherson and Javier Flores, brought home to Southern California’s Temecula Valley Wine Region the 2016 Grand Champion Best Red Wine award with its 2014 Mourvedre in the 2016 Pacific Rim International Wine Competition. In fact, South Coast’s winning Mourvedre was not only crowned the Best Red Wine in the competition, but it also garnered a Best of Show, a Best of Class and Gold Medal honors.
Not one to be content with just one award-winner, 14 other wines from Carter’s impressive collection went on to earn 16 additional awards and medals in the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition this year, including two more Best of Class, five Gold, seven Silver and two Bronze medals this year.
While South Coast Winery 2014 Mourvedre, the Grand Champion and Best Red Wine titleholder, exhibits classic red cherry fruit alongside hints of Red-Vines, leather and gingerbread, there were two other reigning champions coming from the South Coast Winery collection that earned Best of Class honors: 1) 2015 South Coast Winery Verdelho; and 2) 2014 Muscat of Alexandria.
South Coast’s Verdelho, exudes refreshing and vibrant notes ranging from exotic guava and passion fruit to bright lemon and grapefruit and has been crafted beautifully by the South Coast winemaking team into one brilliant bottle. The 2014 Muscat of Alexandria is a dessert wine, possessing rich and unctuous flavor of orange and is finished with close to 17% residual sugar.
“It’s moments like these that cause publications like WINE ENTHUSIAST to stop and take note of emerging wine regions like Temecula,” says Jim Carter, owner/vintner of the award winning winery. “I couldn’t be more pleased with South Coast Winery’s results in this international wine competition, and I am doubly thrilled to see that another Temecula winery share in Temecula Wine Country’s triumphs and claim two of the top seven grand champion awards.” In fact, other Southern California Temecula Valley Wine Country winners included Thornton, Callaway, Falkner, Maurice Carrie and Hart Winery, who earned a spot in the Grand Champions category with a Best Pacific Rim Rosé for its 2015 Rosé of Sangiovese.
