Elite Meetings International Launches Lead Streamlining Initiative
A combination of technology and education addresses lead spam issues
Las Vegas, Nev. – Oct 9, 2012 – Today at the IMEX America Show, Elite Meetings International (EMI) introduced industry-leading initiatives for streamlining excessive leads from electronic Requests for Proposals (eRFPs). In an environment of skyrocketing eRFPs and plummeting conversion rates (between two and three percent), the hotel industry is wrestling with sales deployment and productivity concerns.

Throughout IMEX, EMI will be discussing the issue at booth #1273 and demonstrating some of the programming features on EliteMeetings.com that help planners choose the most appropriate properties for their events and discourage excessive submissions. One new tool added to EliteMeetings.com comes into play when a planner adds more than seven properties to an RFP. A pop-up window informs planners about the merits of limiting their leads, with links to more education on the issue. These features on EliteMeetings.com, along with educational outreach, have resulted in an industry low of just 5.8 hotels sourced per RFP.

One recent outreach effort involved a panel discussion on the subject at the August 2012 Elite Meetings Alliance at Revel in Atlantic City. EMI's director of planner communications, Carol Lynch, reports that in a survey taken during the event, 66 percent of planners said they were unaware of the lead spam issue. "Planners enjoy tremendous efficiencies from eRFPs, but many don't necessarily understand the downside of excessive submissions for both parties," she says. "We're committed to educating planners and implementing technologies that will help with this issue.

From his meetings with major hotel brands, CEO Kelly Foy said one message was clear: "They're struggling with how to deploy resources to address eRFPs that have grown by 300 percent in the past 3 years.
