Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort & Spa immerses guests in the extraordinary beauty of the Sonoran Desert above Tucson, Arizona. Anchoring 80 acres of Santa Catalina Mountain foothills, the hacienda-style hideaway began as a private residence in 1912, the same year Arizona became a state. A century later, the resort offers an authentic experience with the living desert—plus 241 guest rooms and suites lavished in four-star, four-diamond service and amenities.
Recently renovated and expanded to meet the needs of today’s most sophisticated travelers, the resort now hosts groups with 16 meeting venues spread over 20,000 square feet of function space. The latest addition, the 4,312-square-foot Sonoran Ballroom, echoes the resort’s traditional adobe design and offers panoramic views from its rooftop terrace. Event support consists of state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, a top-notch catering team, and meeting professionals ready to accommodate any agenda, whether a general assembly, meeting of the board, educational program, or team-building effort.
Attendees motivated to do more find horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and nearby golf along with on-site tennis on eight courts. And, for those with a more laid-back to-do list, there’s Westward Look’s sensory oasis, the Sonoran Spa; sunbathing at three pools; stargazing through the resort’s high-powered Celestron 2000 telescope; and tastes of the Southwest at two restaurants, including fine dining on fresh contemporary desert cuisine at Gold.

Our company has held our annual seminar at the Westward for the past five years, and it is always nothing short of spectacular! Their attention to every detail, for every guest is impeccable. The meeting space is always ready, the food service was timely and always out of this world. With their recent merger with Wyndham, they have just knocked it out of the ball park! We have contracted out until 2017 for our corporate events.

I would like to congratulate you on the excellent staff you have at the Westward Look. We have just completed another year of events with your resort and again, the staff was absolutely wonderful. It is no small thing to say that the success of our events is tied closely to the quality of your staff and from the comments and feedback we have received, I would say we have been very successful. Our fellows felt very comfortable and welcomed at the resort and appreciate the reception they are given by everyone, from the banquet and convention services manager, to the groundskeepers. One of the nicest things that can be said is when the guests say they feel like “they are coming home.” Congratulations on the renovations. The lobby has turned out beautifully, as have the ballrooms and sleeping rooms. We will be doing this all over again next year!

Westward Look Resort Welcomes New Wedding Specialist
Posted July 22, 2011
New Catering Sales Manager announced in time for a busy wedding season
Tucson, AZ - July 22, 2011 - Westward Look Resort, Tucson’s first and finest resort, announces the addition of Alyssa Sheppard to their Catering Sales Management team. A Tucson native and Westward Look food and beverage employee for six years, Alyssa brings a strong understanding of the city, the resort and event planning to her new position as Catering Sales Manager. She is currently in training to become the resort’s Wedding Specialist.
In her new role, Alyssa primarily serves as a bridal consultant, working with brides, grooms and their families to make each wedding day at Westward Look an unforgettable event. Together with Senior Catering Sales Manager Julie Day, who has been with Westward Look Resort for four years and is a fifth-generation Tucsonan, Alyssa meets with local brides, answers their questions, tours the property with them, arranges tastings and more.
“We take what they envision for their wedding day and make it happen at Westward Look,” said Julie, who is in charge of training Alyssa. Hosting at least one wedding per weekend throughout the summer, Westward Look’s catering team is currently very busy planning distinctive, memorable ceremonies and receptions. Julie acknowledged that Alyssa has essentially hit the ground running, a necessity considering that following the busy summer season, September and October are extremely popular months for weddings at Westward Look. Julie notes that March and April will also be eventful months for the resort.
Julie also noted that Alyssa is joining an incredible group. “The team I work with is number one,” she said. “They really come through. Everyone is very warm and team-oriented.”
Alyssa, who graduated from the University of Arizona this summer, is looking forward to her new role on the Westward Look catering team.
“I’m excited to be working with the brides and helping them to make their day special,” said Alyssa, who held her own wedding at Westward Look last May. Alyssa celebrated her wedding day on the resort’s Sonoran Rooftop, a location that Julie says holds a “wow” factor for many brides who tour Westward Look.
Set at the base of the breathtaking Santa Catalina Mountains, Westward Look provides a picturesque wedding venue any time of year. The 80-acre resort features indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception areas that can accommodate events of just about any size. The resort’s Sonoran Spa is available to pamper the wedding party, and suite-sized rooms with relaxing views of the mountains, desert or sparkling city lights comfortably accommodate out-of-town guests.

Westward Look Earns Honors for Environmentally Friendly Initiatives
Posted February 1, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Resort one of few to be designated a Certified Green Hotel by the Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association
Tucson, AZ (12/02/10) - Westward Look Resort has been designated a Certified Green Hotel by the Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association (AzHLA), the leading public policy advocate for the Arizona Lodging Industry. The AzHLA Certified Green Hotel Program recognizes hotels for their efforts in protecting Arizona's precious natural resources. Westward Look is one of only 20 hotels in Arizona that qualifies for green certification.
Westward Look not only met the Certified Green Hotel Program criteria set forth in the self-certification workbook, but the resort's final score easily exceeded eligibility requirements. Westward Look's final score more than tripled the minimum score of 100 required for automatic certification.
"As Tucson's first resort, we have long been aware of the importance of protecting and sustaining our stunning natural environment," said Westward Look Resort's General Manager, Alan Klein. "Every member of our staff is part of this commitment, as are our guests who choose to utilize in-room recycling bins and towel and linen re-use programs. We're very proud to be recognized for this commitment."
Even before applying for certification, the management at Westward Look created an environmental team to help protect the resort's natural surroundings. The team meets regularly in order to initiate or improve upon existing green initiatives around the resort. Westward Look's green practices are designed to reduce negative effects on the environment, as well as highlight the culture, tradition and beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
Below are just a few of the green practices used throughout Westward Look taken into account by the AzHLA during certification consideration.
Resort-wide:
* Recycling in every area of Westward Look Resort, including cardboard, office paper, newspaper, plastic, toners, light bulbs, aluminum and steel cans.
* Energy-efficient lighting and timers for outside areas.
* Landscaping maximizing drought-resistant, native plants.
* Usage of botanical controls such as organic insecticides, fertilizers and integrated pest management (IPM).
* Monthly Desert Landscape Classes open to the public that teach about water conservation and energy saving ideas.
Guest Rooms
* High-efficiency air conditioning units and electronic thermostats.
* Low-flow and automatic flush toilets to help conserve water.
* Towel and linen re-use programs.
* Energy efficient lighting sources (CFLs).
Culinary
* Compost organic kitchen waste for use in on-site gardens.
* Eliminated use of Styrofoam food containers in food service wherever possible.
* On-site Chef's Garden supplies many fruits and vegetables used in resort menus.
* The culinary team purchases locally when available to support Arizona growers and businesses and to reduce transportation emissions.
* Seafood offered on menus is based on the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch list.
Westward Look Resort will hold its green certification for the next two years, after which time the resort will need to show active sustainability initiatives and improvements to be eligible for re-certification.
For more information about Westward Look Resort and the resort's green initiatives, visit http://www.westwardlook.com/about-us/traveling-green.
