Inn Welcomes Back Paul Holmes, Pianist and Friend
Posted June 3, 2008
Durham, NC " April 29, 2008: Known for its gracious hospitality, superb cuisine and exceptional service, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is pleased to announce that Paul Holmes, noted musician, returns to the Fairview Dining Rooms keyboard as of Tuesday, April 29, 2008.
Paul's reprise at the grand piano is remarkable indeed. Having suffered a severe fall in December 2006 that badly damaged his right arm and hand, Paul persevered through eighteen months of exhaustive physical therapy and personal dedication to return to the dining room he so loves. Paul is simply overjoyed to return to the Fairview and his adoring audience. Pauls playing schedule at the Fairview will be as follows: Sunday brunch, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday, 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. He comes back to his position as house pianist after an 18-month leave of absence.
We do all that we can to make the guest experience at the Fairview one worth remembering and repeating, says Randy Kolls, general manager at the Inn. An integral part of that experience is having live entertainment, and, in my mind, it doesnt get much better than Paul Holmes.
Performing a vast repertoire of jazz and popular standards, Paul brings a composer's touch to his unique piano improvisations and harmonies to the classics of American music that have made him the first-call in art circles and society settings throughout central North Carolina.
Paul has also authored a textbook for music study, Musicon Symbols: A Creative Approach to Keyboard Harmony. The book defines his approach to music theory and harmony and is an essential resource for serious musicians, arrangers and composers.
Paul studied music at Chicago Musical College, now part of Northwestern University, and spent six years studying at Juilliard and making numerous public appearances and radio broadcasts. He made his orchestral debut with David Van Vactor, conductor of the Knoxville Symphony, performing Chopins Piano Concerto in E minor.
The Fairview Dining Room is locally, regionally and nationally renowned for its seasonally inspired contemporary cuisine, exceptional service, extensive wine list and glorious vistas of the prestigious Robert Trent Jones-designed Duke University Golf Club. Executive Chef Jason Cunningham leads the talented staff that creates the restaurants AAA Award-winning fare. French, Italian and American wines comprise the wine collection, which consistently receives the Wine Spectator magazine Award of Excellence.
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is located on the campus of Duke University, only twenty minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and ten minutes from Research Triangle Park, and is the only AAA Four Diamond hotel in Durham. Nestled on 300 acres filled with tall pines and hardwoods, the Inn is known for its beautiful facility and grounds, 271 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, marvelous cuisine in the Four Diamond Award-winning Fairview Dining Room, the Bull Durham Bar, a Robert Trent Jones-designed 18-hole championship golf course, and convenience to local points of interest. It is set apart from other area hotels and conference centers by its unparalleled service, gracious staff, luxurious interiors and attention to detail. The Inn is owned by Duke University and is managed by The Continental Companies of Miami, Florida.
