Very funky, modern fun hotel. Great ambiance. Rooms are very nice with a clean modern look and feel. Fantastic beds! And they even have docking stations for your i-pod which is a nice touch for tech savvy groups.

Nice location with an easy walk to theaters and the UCLA campus for additional event space.

Thom Filicia and His Manhattan-Based Design Firm TFI Partner with W's Award-Winning Design Team to Create the Perfect Balance of Couture Whimsy Infused with Spontaneous Sophistication

LOS ANGELES - May 7, 2007 - W Hotels Worldwide today announced the renovation of its iconic W Los Angeles-Westwood property by design guru and style icon, Thom Filicia. Beginning this month, W Los Angeles will undergo a transformation with the complete redesign of the property's poolside cabanas, outdoor aesthetics, and the grand re-opening of its outdoor restaurant and lounge The Backyard. A suite renovation of the entire property is set to be unveiled later this summer.

In collaboration with W's award-winning design team, Filicia has created whimsical and sophisticated couture environments, integrating the signature style and warmth of W Hotels with his own unique and clever design personality. The tone will be light and full of stylish surprises, but always sophisticated and modern.

"We were inspired by Thom's hands-on ability to bounce off ideas with our design team and spontaneously create real eclectic juxtapositions, cross referencing regional tones while integrating his style with that of W," said Ross Klein, President of Starwood's Luxury Brands Group. "What our guests will experience on each of these very unique and distinct W properties is the perfect balance of Thom's signature couture comfort style infused with the voice of W."

The architecture of the Westwood property alone (originally a student dormitory for UCLA) was enough to inspire Thom Filicia's vision.

"The building is unique and amazing and tells its own story," said Filicia. "The design reveals itself with a natural Southern California ease, mid-century modern approach stemming from the original details of the building, combined with the sophistication associated with W."

All 258 suites at the W Los Angeles will be remodeled to feel like chic, modern bungalows, with a balance between urban comfort and Southern Californian glamour. The combination of faux bois paper on the wall and dark graphic carpet grounding the floors, in conjunction with freshly painted and updated millwork will work to create a warm backdrop that anchors the room. Doors will be painted in a rich "days end" Charcoal adding a sense of luxury. "Wow" moments include a honeycomb peek-a-boo window connecting the bedroom to the bathroom - playing with the relationship between public and private spaces, white designer Eames chairs, internally illuminated closet rod, and a glowing art ledge - providing the layer of W magic. Each room will be outfitted in state of the art technology, complete with flat screen plaza TVs, TIVOLI radios, and wireless internet. The furniture is simple and gracious in scale allowing for improved circulation and more flexibility of function. By flipping the sofa cushions from light to dark and turning the duvet cover over from sand to grass, the room can literally be transformed from day into night.

The pool area at the W Los Angeles will serve as a natural extension of the hotel. The graphic mixture of color and texture continues with the dark (polyvinyl) rattan chaise lounge, reupholstered day beds and new recovered cabanas equipped with flat screen TVs and DVD players. White, cyan, orange, green and brown decorative hues will transform the space into a soothing retreat by day, while suspended glass lanterns and glowing candlelight will create a serene and seductive setting by night. The landscaping will be lush and organic to contrast the beautiful concrete architecture of the hotel. W Los Angeles will also launch the revolutionary intelliChaise Personal Ordering System by Tiare Technology - a wireless touch-screen device that allows guests to place orders for food, beverage or hotel services while lounging by the pool without having to leave their chair. During the spring and summer, guests will enjoy luxuries such as poolside BLISS services, and whimsical delights such as popsicles and frozen grapes served on silver platters. Every evening the W Los Angeles will perform their sunset ritual, enticing guests into The Backyard with the transition from day into night.

This month, The Backyard - W Los Angeles' poolside restaurant and lounge will experience its grand re-opening with the guarantee to provide "The Best Outdoor Dining in LA." The Backyard will debut its finest menu to date - an innovative fusion of fresh Mediterranean, American, and Asian cuisine. Guests will enjoy an exquisite setting designed by Thom Filicia, with Cyan, Grass, Chocolate and White decorative tones working together to create a bright balanced palette. A bolon floor rug will define the lounge area, while tree seating and a communal organic slab table will anchor the caf seating. The bar will serve designer cocktails and a special sharing bar menu.

W Los Angeles will launch its summer programming to compliment Thom Filicia's redesign with the introduction of BONFIRE - a social cluster of mini fire-pits within The Backyard with gourmet s'mores- making stations and signature cocktails. On select nights, patrons will enjoy outdoor movie screenings with gourmet picnic baskets, game nights designed to spark social interaction, and fashion previews from designer collections. W Los Angeles and Thom Filicia have created Los Angeles' most modern oasis - a contemporary chic retreat to fulfill guest's whims and wishes.
