MARINA DEL REY, CA ' Drew Sayes, most recently chef de cuisine at Jer-ne Restaurant + Bar at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey and previously restaurant sous chef at Four Seasons Hotel, is the new executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. Chef Sayes culinary style offers an unpretentious approach to California regional cuisine.
I look forward to providing cuisine with local ingredients at the peak of season in a comfortable and memorable way. I want to keep the food delicious, fun and interesting for our guests, says Sayes.
Chef Sayes interest in the culinary arts began when he was a child growing up Michigan. He learned cooking techniques and recipes from watching urban gourmet televisions shows. After viewing the program, Sayes would re-create the menu for his family to enjoy. He also credits his mother for teaching him the essentials for creating memorable holiday dinners in the family kitchen.
Sayes career in the culinary arts began as a cook for a small family owned Italian restaurant in Michigan. A few years later, Sayes enrolled in the Culinary Studies Institute located in Farmington Hills, MI, where he absorbed some of the culinary expertise and knowledge he possesses today. Sayes received numerous awards from the American Culinary Federation sanction competitions throughout Michigan.
Sayes embodies a strong passion for teaching and mentoring fellow members of the culinary field. While in Michigan, he mentored and coached students from his Alma Mater. Sayes would like the opportunity to pursue teaching culinary studies at the college level in his future.

The renovation included refined and stylish updates to all 304 guest rooms and suites, corridors and the club lounge. The hotel renovation complements the architecture of the hotel and accentuates the propertys waterfront location.
Our ladies and gentlemen are proud to provide guests with new modernized room upgrades and amenities as key additions to our property, says General Manager Robert Thomas. The renovation particularly was aimed to target our guests desires of advanced technology, such as plasma screen televisions and a more stylish overall ambience for the savvy individual travelers seeking a hotel with personality.
All 304 guest rooms and suites are attractively remodeled in hues of rich marine and softer blues with gold and white accents reflective of the hotels waterfront location to provide a fresh look. Each guest room is technologically enhanced with 32-inch plasma screen televisions and all suites are equipped with 42-inch plasma screen televisions. The guest bedroom centerpiece is the baffle box feather bed, which is a natural allergy-free bedding of feathers and down. A crisp white Egyptian cotton duvet, bedding hand-crafted in Northern Italy and three sizes of down pillows complete this luxury bed experience. The luxurious touches are also discernable in the guest room renovation from the sleek polished wood furnishings to the fine fabrics and plush carpets. The bathroom ambiance is refreshed with decorative framed mirrors and lighting with beautifully painted wood vanity cabinets.
