The staff were extremely helpful to both the event staff and the guests during our 5-day program. In the planning process the CSM was flexible and assisted in creating custom menus, a custom Spago culinary class and allowed us to use the patio space in a way in had not been used before. They were accommodating to our request for enhanced outdoor decor lighting which was a challenge with the local home owners.

Abdullah Vural Appointed General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch
Posted 04 Apr, 2011 by Amy Moser
BEAVER CREEK, Colo. – April 4, 2011 – Abdullah Vural, a veteran of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company–who joined The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in a dual capacity as Vice President of Operations, Americas, and Interim General Manager in September 2010–has been appointed General Manager and will oversee all strategic operations on behalf of the iconic AAA Five-Diamond mountain resort.

“Having the privilege to work and live in some of the most beautiful cities in the world, I am extremely proud to call Vail Valley home and look forward to becoming an integral member of this close-knit community,’ said Vural. “The hotel’s reputation as a premier year-round destination is a reflection of its talented team and a testament to the fact that they, too, love being here.”

Boasting more than 24 years of globe-spanning experience in the hospitality industry, Vural began his illustrious career with the luxury brand in 2002. Over the course of nine years, he has continued to mark professional achievements within Food and Beverage, Operations, Finance and Sales Departments on the property level, as well offer his savvy to the Americas in a corporate vice president capacity. Vural brings with him an impressive history of impactful engagement with ownership groups, senior management, customers and employees via innovative service strategies and brand initiatives. Further, he has helmed many property openings on behalf of The Ritz-Carlton, including those in Los Angeles and Lake Tahoe, and served as the interim general manager at destination resorts, such as California’s Half Moon Bay and Arizona’s Dove Mountain.

Born in Istanbul, Vural completed an apprenticeship in Turkey before attending school in Germany–where he was predominantly raised–which ultimately led to opportunities with global giant Marriott International. Fluent in Turkish, German and English, he was propelled and inspired by the international language surrounding epicurean excellence, which quickly became the trajectory for his passion and industry path. He has cultivated a respected reputation for working with notable chefs and restaurateurs to conceptualize successful dining venues, from initial planning and menus to openings and operations.

Relocating to Vail Valley from Virginia with him are his wife Andrea and daughter Leah. When not relishing time cooking for his family or watching spirited soccer matches, Vural is counting down the days to explore the vast riches of Colorado on his Harley-Davidson.

Colorado-Inspired Setting and Services Offer Guests Unique and Luxurious Rocky Mountain Relaxation

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - Discover the ultimate in pampering and personal service in the rugged Rocky Mountains at The Bachelor Gulch Spa at The Ritz-Carlton. Located on Beaver Creek Mountain in Colorado, the spa provides the ideal location to slip into serenity after a day of play in the mountains.

The area's natural landscape is captured inside the 21,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, which features 19 treatment rooms surrounding a rock-lined grotto with lazy river hot tub. Treatments are offered in a nature-inspired setting, where guests are surrounded by stout wood, polished rock and clear, flowing water. Treatments also are a reflection of the surrounding national forest as indigenous ingredients such as blue spruce, apples, Douglas fir needles and alpine berries are used in various applications. Therapies are divided into the following categories: Skin Prescriptions, Touch Therapies, Grooming, Water Cures and Nature's Remedies.

Skin Prescriptions. The menu of facials at The Bachelor Gulch Spa provides a broad range of choices for all skin types and individual conditions. Choose from facials that hydrate, moisturize and rejuvenate skin after a day of activity in the Rockies. Sample treatments include the Platinum Restore Facial with Shirodhara, which uses skincare products indigenous to Colorado to inspire relaxation and reveal a renewed complexion; and The Illumination Facial, which targets hyper-pigmentation to repair the uneven appearance of sun-damaged skin.

Touch Therapies. Therapists at The Bachelor Gulch Spa utilize a variety of techniques during therapeutic massages including deep tissue, acupressure, Swedish and myofacial release. For 60 to 90 minutes, experienced, certified therapists will release stress, muscle tension, aches and pains or stimulate circulation. Sample treatments include River Stones Therapy, which employs essential oils and heated river stones from the Rocky Mountains to ease muscle tension, as well as the Mountain Raindrop Therapy, which reduces inflammation along the spinal column and assists the body in releasing toxins.

Grooming. Severe weather, the altitude and a dry climate often leave exposed skin in need of repair. A visit to the spa salon will soothe and soften the hardest working parts of the body - hands and feet. Samples treatments include The Royal Treatment, which includes a saturating foot mask and a paraffin therapy that promises complete hydration and skin renewal as well as Mountain Man Hand and Foot Grooming, designed to clip, shape and buff the appearance and feel of a gentleman's nails, hands and feet.

Water Cures. Refresh, relax, detoxify and rejuvenate the body while in one of the spas three soaking tubs. Sample treatments include the Roaring Rapids hydrotherapy massage, inspired by white water rafting, and the Bachelor Gulch Signature Copper Tub Soak, which may be enjoyed as either a singles or couples experience.

'Park'-itecture and History of The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch
Posted 11 Jan, 2011 by Amy Moser
Historic Inspiration Infuses the Architectural Design of The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - In the early 1900s - the era of Theodore Roosevelt and the emerging American West - famed architect Robert Reamer designed The Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The Inn soon became the model for lodges in western North America and eventually inspired the 'parkitecture' of spectacular hotels such as ours.

Built with indigenous hewn-timber and stone, The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch captures the essence of the surrounding national forest. With notched and joined massive timber, forged ironwork and stonework, dormer windows, broad sweeping gables, and log balconies, our resort exudes the rustic ambiance of Reamer's Inn. In grand parkitecture fashion, The Great Room boasts a three-story stone, wood-burning fireplace that is central to the mountain-resort lifestyle. Guest rooms feature large picture windows or a balcony with panoramic views of our breathtaking setting, while design elements such as rustic colors, foliage accents, and oversized, handcrafted furniture evoke the majesty of the Rocky Mountains.

Until the mid-1930s, grand, historic lodges proliferated in the pioneering West, eventually inspiring the construction of The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch - the first resort to be built in authentic parkitecture style in over 50 years.

History of the Seven Bachelors
The Legend and Lore of Bachelor Gulch

From the Ute Indians who originally settled the western valleys of Colorado to the group of bachelors for whom the area is named, the vibrant legends surrounding Bachelor Gulch persist at our Rocky Mountain resort.

Much of the lore centers around seven miners who arrived in the early 1900s: John Anderson, Gunder "Gundy" Berg, Ed Howard, Charley Mays, John Mertz, Ferdinand Smith and Carrothers - a man only recognized by his last name in historical references. The bachelors remained in the area until high-altitude lettuce farming, which found its ideal climate and soil in the area, took root in the 1920s. The venture proved profitable for the new homesteaders until the Great Depression when the farmers were compelled to sell the land, which was used for herding and grazing until the vision of Bachelor Gulch as a resort destination materialized about 40 years later.

The legends of the bachelors continue to inspire the resort's dcor: the rock-lined walls of
The Bachelor Gulch Spa's signature Grotto are reminiscent of caves found throughout the Rocky Mountains; the seven meeting and hospitality rooms are named for the bachelors, as is the resort's caf '7'; and our Raclette dining experience is offered at Anderson's Cabin, the original homestead of bachelor John Anderson. Historical legends come to life at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch.

Savor Eco-Conscious Cuisine at Spago in The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch
Posted 11 Jan, 2011 by Amy Moser
BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - January 11, 2011- Spago at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch will give the 'garden-to-table' trend all new relevance this summer by serving vegetables and herbs grown just steps from where the flavorful dishes are savored.

As in years past, Executive Chef Mark Ferguson and Sous Chef Steve Maline will compost the soil with scraps from winter's food preparation and plant an all-natural, organic garden on Spago's terrace in early spring. After the chefs have harvested tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, rainbow chard, carrots, English peas, a variety of herbs and more, the summer menu will feature the fruits of their labor.

For example, the 'Cast Iron Alaskan Halibut' might be complemented by pea tendrils and primavera tomatoes freshly picked from the garden that day. During winter months, when local and garden-harvested produce is unavailable, Spago offers predominantly locally-sourced menu options, such as Colorado-raised lamb and goat cheese produced in state.

Year-round, Spago serves 100 percent sustainable seafood as part of The Ritz-Carlton corporate-wide "FutureFish" initiative for healthy oceans. The program aims to avoid endangered resource depletion and promote positive environmental impact by raising awareness of sustainable - and healthy - fish selections. Spago's culinary team has long consulted Monterey Bay Aquarium's 'Seafood Watch' Web site to ensure its suppliers espouse similar values and will easily verify compliance.

"As an extension of Wolfgang Puck's long-time focus on the environment, we're thrilled to offer dishes with sustainable fish varieties and produce harvested on Spago's terrace," said Chef Ferguson. "Not only do these efforts support environmental preservation, but they also provide our guests a socially-conscious, delicious and healthy dining experience."

The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch Inserts Deeper Meaning Into Traditional Teambuilding Programs with VolunTeaming Activities
Posted 11 Jan, 2011 by Amy Moser
BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - For many groups the term "teambuilding" conjures up images of spirited tug of war and relay races, with one side claiming victory. The Ritz-Carlton offers groups a new opportunity at teambuilding where it's a win-win for everyone, including the local community.

Called "VolunTeaming", this unique concept is the newest offering under The Ritz-Carlton Community Footprints umbrella of social responsibility programs. Groups may select from as little as two-hour activities to a full day of working together, depending upon their schedules and interests.

"Each of the 'VolunTeaming' activities offered by our hotels has a strong connection to the local community," explained Sue Stephenson, Vice President of Community Footprints. At The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, opportunities to contribute to causes near and dear to the resort's heart include:

First Descents. First Descents offers young adults diagnosed with cancer an empowering week of outdoor adventure. Kayaking, extreme sports and professional athletes combine to create outdoor experiences that address the emotional scars cancer inflicts on young adults. First Descents was created in 2001 by professional kayaker, Brad Ludden, and enjoys the support of the Vail Valley Chamber and Tourism Bureau, Nike and other partners. Please inquire about volunteering opportunities.

Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from Eagle and Lake Counties, and Habitat strives to make decent housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is a hand-up, not a hand-out. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, or sweat equity, into building their houses and the houses of others. Please inquire about volunteering opportunities.

Meet the Wilderness. Meet The Wilderness is an equal opportunity service provider providing Adventure-based/Life skills programs that introduce youth and adults to the spectacular world of the Colorado backcountry and the beautiful world of themselves and others around them. Offering a balance of physical, mental, and spiritual activities, the nonprofit aims to assist with navigating life's twists and turns while promoting personal growth. Please inquire about volunteering opportunities.

Eagle Valley Humane Society. The mission of the Eagle Valley Humane Society is: the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, the extension of humane education, the facilitation of the adoption of quality, healthy animals, community awareness of animal issues, and the prevention of pet overpopulation. Please inquire about volunteering opportunities.

On-Property Programs. For groups with limited time but still wanting the "VolunTeaming" experience, two-hour on-property program options are also available. For example, in "Bike Build for Charity", group participants will compete in fast-paced activities practicing great communication and teamwork as they build children's bikes for presentation to a local children's charity.

Golf and Area Adventure. Vail Valley is home to more than a dozen world-class golf courses, and The Ritz-Carlton - recently voted as one of five "Top Golf Resorts in the Western U.S." by Cond Nast Traveler readers - enjoys preferred tee times at Red Sky Golf Club, which offers world-class courses designed by Tom Fazio and Greg Norman respectively. Even more, white-water rafting, tubing, horseback riding, cycling, fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, mountain-biking, and hot-air ballooning are all easily accessible activities from the landmark resort.

Bachelor Gulch Disc Golf. Before the dinner rush at Spago, you're likely to find Executive Chef Mark Ferguson and his culinary team hiking Bachelor Gulch, discs in tow. During spring 2010, the disc golf enthusiasts expanded the course at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch to 18 holes, adding more challenge and variety to their favorite extra-culinary activity. The first hole takes off from the base of the Bachelor Gulch chairlift. From there, the course continues uphill past The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club, eventually winding its way up to the bottom of the Upper Beaver Creek chairlift.

The front nine provides a friendly warm-up, offering mostly wide-open shots. The final nine holes - which turn back toward the resort after the 13th - present more challenge, including long yardage, uphill shots and obstacles in the form of Aspen trees. The course takes about an hour and half to complete, and the resort's new Recreation Concierge can provide a course map, scorecard and complimentary disc rentals.

Resort Recreation. Guests are invited to partake in the resort's extended, on-site recreational activities this summer. Air hockey, ladder toss, ping pong, and perennial campus-favorite, Cornhole toss will be set up on the Mountainside Terrace, while bocce ball, horse shoes, soccer nets and badminton will be available for play on the back lawn.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch Partners With Clean the World Foundation to Recycle Partially Used Soap Products

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - January 11, 2011- In February 2010, The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch joined a growing group of area hotels donating partially used soap products to the Clean the World Foundation.

The Orlando-based non profit, founded in February 2009, aims to reduce hygiene-related illnesses by recycling the hospitality industry's partially used soap products and distributing them to shelters and countries facing sanitation crises. Since the country's devastating earthquake in January, Clean the World has delivered 150 tons of recycled supplies to Haiti.

After collecting and sorting shampoo, conditioner and lotion donated by its hospitality partners, the organization sanitizes, re-processes and then delivers the recycled products to locations in need, both domestic and abroad.

Clean the World estimates that its partnership with The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch will reduce the resort's annual waste production by 2.8 tons. Additionally, the foundation anticipates that one day of partially used bar soap collected from the hotel will provide 54 families with soap for a week. In October 2010, a team from Clean the World travelled to Haiti to distribute soap to areas affected by the cholera outbreak.

Other eco-friendly efforts at The Ritz-Carlton include purchasing environmentally sensitive products, and offering local and organic dining options, spa treatments, and products.

Wolfgang Pucks Spago Opens in Bachelor Gulch
Posted 09 Apr, 2008 by Concierge Elite
Spago at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch opened its doors with a grand opening reception that welcomed hundreds of local and VIP guests from around the nation. The restaurant is the latest venture for the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group and is their first partnership with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.

Opening Spago at The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch s an exceptional opportunity to further our brand, said master chef Wolfgang Puck This spectacular mountain destination provides the perfect setting to create a unique menu that combines our classics from over the years with new signature dishes locally inspired by the Colorado Rockies.

At Spago, Executive Chef Mark Ferguson creates imaginative, seasonal American cuisine with Asian accents. The menu features Wolfgangs classics - Handmade Agnolotti with seasonal fillings and the Roasted Chino Farms Beet Layer Cake - as well as new locally inspired dishes. Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, the menus showcase healthy and lighter fare as well as select game dishes such as the Pan-Roasted Venison Filet Mignon with Juniper Reduction and Fuji Apple-Celery Compote. In keeping with Chef Pucks guiding culinary philosophy, Spago fully engages Wolfgangs Eat, Love, Live (WELL) program and includes a commitment to sourcing from local family farmers and purveyors who support the humane treatment of animals and to offering products that meet the natural, fresh and organic standards of the company.

The 4,400 square foot restaurant was designed by esteemed New York-based hospitality designer Tony Chi. Chi captures the essence of the surrounding mountain landscape in his distinctly modern design. Recognized as a true design visionary, Chis impeccable style and innovation can be found in the world's major capitals and some of its most exclusive travel destinations. The 120-seat restaurant weaves rustic and modern elements to create a balanced transition between it and the traditional log and stone features of the hotel. A stunning, 37-seat bar and lounge creates a unique faade for the restaurant, opening directly off of the hotels Great Room. With clear glass display towers, etched silver bar tops, polished, stainless steel fixtures and swiveling barstools, the Spago bar is the ideal place to see and be seen after an adventurous day of outdoor adventure.

The restaurant is composed of two dining areas. The Kitchen Dining Room features an open-oven kitchen which acts as an active and dynamic staging area for the culinary team. Additionally, the room includes four communal dining tables, intimate booth dining with custom-made, vegetable-dyed veneer walls, reclaimed solid oak tables, and custom-made wall sconces.

The second dining room is surrounded by 14-foot high, vegetable-dyed wood veneer shutters in front of the windows. Intended to be open during the daylight hours, these close over the center portion of the windows during the evening to add intimacy, warmth and color to the room. A handcrafted Windsor bench anchors the seating at the end of the room behind which a hand-woven, red tapestry hangs. Stunning black and white photographic murals of Rocky Mountain images by Denver-based photographer John Fielder add additional artistry throughout the spaces.

Wolfgang Pucks extraordinary cuisine set inside Tony Chis brilliant restaurant design makes Spago the premier dining experience in the Vail Valley, said John Garth, general manager of the resort.
