Great ocean front location, spectacular golf course, woodsy, craftsman style lodge, cozy but elegant.

This is a great property for a business group and for golfers with an 'upscale rustic' feel. Located in La Jolla north of San Diego, it is located on top of picturesque cliffs along the ocean, but nowhere near tourist areas (other than sightseeing locales along the coast). Great area also for serious joggers.

The staff's service was over the top. While this should be expected and not the exception, after 22 years of planning small board meetings to large city-wide events, this experience was the exception.

This property is wonderful! The lodge rooms are amazing - very warm and welcoming without being overdone. The meetings space was tremendous - easy to get to, elegant, beautiful views, and excellent servicing staff. The golf, spa, and restaurants are all relaxing and delicious! The event management team was THE best before, during and after our event. We are going back for a second year!

Very successful meeting at this location. Gorgeous property - the architecture is something that really sets it apart as a very special experience. Golf of course great. No tennis courts on property and the ones they use are not well-maintained. Probably the best Conference Service group I've ever worked with - proactive, going the extra mile all the time, effective. They could use another resto venue - a more casual one, as the fine-dining resto serves many purposes and it can get expensive. Spectacular meeting space. Pool is beautiful but they could use more chairs, more poolside wait staff.

Sadly, my Firm has outgrown The Lodge at Torrey Pines. It is a spectacular resort. We took 140 rooms in 2004, and members of my group loved the property so much, we went back to The Lodge in 2006. We would book again, but if we did, we would need to trim our guest list. The location can't be beat. Your group will love having meals served on the hotel's back lawn, the Arroyo Terrace (the lawn is maintained by the Torrey Pines Golf Course grounds crew). The food is also top drawer, and the attention to detail in the hotel's design makes the property most unique, as well. Service, food quality, location, event space and guest room design all combine to make The Lodge at Torrey Pines the premier resort in Southern California.

If golf is important to you - make sure to ask if course if available during your dates (sales neglected to tell me that course was closed for a tournament). Charles Fries room is THE BEST - views of pool and course. Plenty of outdoor options for breaks and meals.

THE LODGE AT TORREY PINES EARNS HIGHEST STATUS IN
CALIFORNIA GREEN LODGING PROGRAM
State of California Awards Green Lodging Leadership Level Status
to San Diego's Only 5-Diamond Luxury Resort

SAN DIEGO, California (October 2009) - The Lodge at Torrey Pines is dedicated to protecting the environment and has earned the Leadership Level status from the California Green Lodging Program, which recognizes efforts by the California hospitality industry to minimize waste, conserve energy and protect natural resources.
"Because we are so close to the natural beauty of Torrey Pines Golf Course and Torrey Pines State Reserve, we feel a special obligation to make a commitment to our environment," said General Manager Dan Fullen. "We're very proud to be the only La Jolla luxury resort and spa to have earned this honor."
The California Green Lodging Program was developed to steer "green travelers" to eco-friendly hotels and resorts. The Lodge earned the Leadership Level status by keeping a written environmental policy and by meeting all seven of the program's criteria: waste minimization, reuse/recycling, energy efficiency, conservation and management, waste management, freshwater resource management, hazardous materials management, plus environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policies.
"The Lodge overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and the view reminds us every day of the relationship between the environment and our property," Fullen said. "Our guests stay with us to enjoy the natural beauty of Southern California, and our staff does everything we can to maintain or improve our surroundings."

In addition to adhering to The Lodge's environmental policies, Fullen said the resort hotel also works to support local farmers markets as well as small growers, ranchers and fishermen. Epicurious.com named the Lodge's signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, the Top Ten Farm to Table Restaurants because of Executive Chef Jeff Jackson's dedication to building his ever-changing menu from local products and ingredients.
"We care about our impact on the environment, and this award recognizes that we are keeping our commitments to our guests and our community," Fullen said.

THE LODGE AT TORREY PINES RECENTLY SELECTED BY FORBESTRAVELER.COM AS ONE OF THE "WORLD'S 400 BEST HOTELS"
Posted November 21, 2008
(October 2008)
excerpted from an online review at ForbesTraveler.com

"THE EXPERIENCE
The soft clop of a distant chip shot mingles with the calls of seagulls. Para-gliders float lazily in the distance, hanging gently on updrafts from the nearby cliffs. Its morning, and youve just awakened to a view of the 18th fairway at one of the worlds great golf courses"the site of Tiger Woodss 2008 sudden-death U.S. Open victory. And when your day at the links is finished, first-class dining, recreational and spa experiences await just a short walk away. Just another day at Torrey Pines.

THE ROOMS
While many visitors may prefer one of the 25 units facing the sea, the hotels exceptional design can also make for an excellent view by itself. The classic 1900s American Craftsman architecture is elegantly reflected in every room"from the Tiffany-inspired lamps to the clean, rectangular lines of the hardwood furniture to the flood of natural light that pours through your sliding glass doors. Youd be forgiven for wondering if youd waken up 100 years in the past. The hallways have even been tastefully lined with period lithographs, completing the fin-de-sicle vibe.

THE SERVICE
The front desk may seem relatively small, but thats partly due to the sheer density of receptionists and bellmen hopping swiftly to their tasks. Its possible to approach the front desk feeling strangely outnumbered by people eager to help you. And help you they will"for example, the hotel can do more than just guarantee a tee time; if youd like to hold a private tournament, theyll cater your food and beverages and even provide professional scorekeeping.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
On Thursday evenings, the A.R. Valentien restaurant presents a communal Artisan Table dinner, presenting seasonal menus in a relaxed setting perfect for sharing war stories from the links outside with other guests. After dinner, take a stroll through the nearby Torrey Pines State Reserve. The namesake tree is an endangered 30-foot desert conifer so rare that only about 7,000 wild specimens exist"and most of them are right next to the hotel. Youll also find a scenic plateau, breathtaking cliffs, a wetland brimming with life and possibly even glimpse a migrating whale. Many guests find their first lap around the golf course is only the beginning of a series of spectacular walks."
THE LODGE AT TORREY PINES' A.R. VALENTIEN RESTAURANT NAMED AMONG TOP TEN FARM-TO-TABLE RESTAURANTS IN NATION
Posted November 21, 2008
San Diego, California (October 2008)- Foodie website epicurious.com named A.R. Valentien one of the top 10 farm-to-table restaurants in the country. Chef Jackson was recognized for buying most of his ingredients at nearby small farms and food purveyors, promoting locally grown or raised animals, vegetables, herbs, and fruit. Reconnecting the farm and table increases available food nutrients, adds more natural flavor, and limits the human impact on the environment.

Always focused on excellent seasonal ingredients and simple preparation, A.R. Valentien launches a new menu that allows diners to customize their meals according to preference. Chef Jeff Jackson wants the diner to experience more of what he does in A.R. Valentien's kitchen. Divided into six sections, the new menu concept will help diners depart from the "traditional progression of a meal and better tailor their experience to their own preferences," says Chef Jackson. More choices mean reduced portion sizes and prices. No item is priced over $21. If desired, all menu items can be prepared and served family style for the entire table.

Six Menu Sections

Charcuterie: Homemade Pts, Terrines, Sausages, Mousses, Meatballs, and Pickles.
Vegetable Dishes: Seasonal selections prepared to enhance the uniqueness and maintain the integrity of locally grown produce.
Fish and Seafood: Local and West Coast varieties with an emphasis on the Baja region.
Meat and Birds: Beef, Pork, Lamb, Poultry, and Game Birds.
Artisanal and Farmhouse Cheeses: Small producers from California and other parts of the world.
Desserts: Handmade on premises.
The Artisan Table and Winemaker's Dinner

Continuing an exceptional tradition, A.R. Valentien presents Artisan Table dinners by reservation each Thursday evening. Seated and served family style, diners enjoy a selection of menu items in four courses: appetizers, main course, cheese, and dessert and coffee, along with wines selected by our sommelier. Guests can discuss the evening's menu and wines with Chef Jackson, Chef de cuisine Tim Kolanko, and house sommelier John Roth. The menu changes weekly, offering seasonal fare from the finest local providers. Once each month, the Thursday evening dinner party expands to showcase California's premier wineries at The Artisan Table Winemaker's Dinner. For reservations and information: (858) 777-6635.

LA JOLLA, CA (March 2008) - The Lodge at Torrey Pines, San Diego's only AAA Five Diamond Resort, has been selected as the premier hospitality site of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship being held June 9-15. Torrey Pines South Golf Course is only the second truly public golf course to host the U.S. Open, the jewel of the United States Golf Association's (USGA) competitions.

"This championship is the crme de la crme of golf championships and with the recent course renovations golfers of all levels are now able to tee up like the pros."

New Year Begins With Prestigious Honors For The Lodge At Torrey Pines
Posted April 3, 2008
Remains the only Five Diamond hotel property in San Diego; praised by
Robb Report, Travel + Leisure, Cond Nast Traveler, ZagatSurvey

LA JOLLA, California (January 2008) - As the new year begins, The Lodge at Torrey Pines celebrates an impressive array of prestigious awards that affirm its position among the world's premier luxury resort destinations.

The coveted AAA Five Diamond Award, one of the travel industry's most prestigious honors, has been conferred upon The Lodge for the sixth consecutive year. The Lodge remains among the top tier hotel properties in North America, sharing the Five Diamond category with outstanding properties including The Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel, The St. Regis in New York, and The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas.

A. R. Valentien was listed in the 2008 Zagat Survey of America's Top Restaurants among the top five restaurants in the San Diego region. The restaurant was also praised in the 2007 Zagat Survey, making it the second year in a row A.R. Valentien was listed. The restaurant received "high marks" and was praised as a "great getaway" with "superb" Californian cuisine and service that is "attentive from the moment you drive up."

The Lodge's most recent acclaim comes from the January issues of two important travel industry publications that included The Lodge at Torrey Pines on their lists of the world's best hotels for the second year in a row. In 2007 and 2008 The Lodge was named among Travel + Leisure Magazine's international "T + L 500 World's Best Hotels" list. Also in 2007, the hotel was listed among the Top 100 Hotels in the Continental US and Canada; hailed as "an architectural gem" by the magazine's editors and reporters. Cond Nast Traveler honored The Lodge with a position in 2007 and 2008 on their Annual Gold List of the World's Best Places to Stay. Compiled from a survey of the magazine's subscribers, the listing particularly noted the resort's "appealing setting."

In November 2007, The Lodge ranked among Cond Nast Traveler's TOP 50 Mainland U.S. Resorts in The Best in the World Readers' Choice Awards. It is a great honor for The Lodge to have the distinction of being positioned alongside some of the most established and time-honored resorts in North America.

These honors echo warm accolades received in the preceding year. The Summer 2006 issue of The Robb Report listed The Lodge at Torrey Pines as one of 100 Best Places to Stay in 2006, citing the resort's "classic Craftsman ambience." "If time is the only true luxury," enthused Carol Brodie - who, as Chief Luxury Officer for the Robb Report's parent company, knows a thing or two about good living - "then the time spent at this heavenly oasis was the most luxurious of all!"

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a tribute to the California Craftsman Movement and is modeled after Greene & Greene's famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. The Lodge features 170 spacious guest rooms, including nine suites, more than 13,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, and a 9,500 square-foot spa. The Lodge is adjacent to the Torrey Pines Golf Course and is within walking distance of Torrey Pines State Reserve.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines Welcomes the 2008 U.S. Open Championship as the Premier Hospitality Site

Newly Renovated Course and Luxurious Travel Offerings Attract Professional and Amateur Golfers Worldwide to Southern California

In its 108th year, the U.S. Open is returning to Southern California for the first time in 60 years. This, second-oldest, USGA championship is one of the four major golf championships and the USGA's National Championship. Many of the game's greatest players have won this coveted championship title.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines is adjacent to the 18th fairway of the South Course. Acclaimed golf course designer, Rees Jones, redesigned the Torrey Pines Golf Course at a cost of $3.5 million, creating a pristine playing environment that is "Open-ready" and primed for professional and amateur golfers alike. "We consider The Lodge at Torrey Pines to be, in essence, our clubhouse during the 2008 U.S. Open," notes Peter Bevacqua, recently appointed Chief Business Officer for the USGA. "Clearly, this spectacular, five-diamond property's phenomenal location directly adjacent to the 18th hole was an additional bonus of bringing the U.S. Open to Torrey Pines."
"The Lodge at Torrey Pines is thrilled to be in the center of the action for the 2008 U.S. Open Championship," said Steve Pelzer, Executive Vice President of Evans Hotels. "This championship is the crme de la crme of golf championships and with the recent course renovations golfers of all levels are now able to tee up like the pros."

Torrey Pines is situated atop cliffs towering above the Pacific Ocean. Golfers have spectacular views of the coastline, deep ravines, and surrounded by the rare Torrey Pine trees. The Lodge at Torrey Pines boasts guaranteed tee-times for hotel guests.
