HEATHMAN HOTEL FURTHERS ITS ECO-FRIENDLY VISION WITH "GREEN CHOICES" INITIATIVES
The environmentally conscious hotel provides guests with amenities to reduce carbon footprints and create a greener living space
KIRKLAND, Wash. - January 7, 2010 - The Heathman Hotel in Kirkland is demonstrating its continued commitment to green practices by providing infrastructure, amenities and guest services aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. Living up to its eco-friendly esteem The Heathman Hotel has implemented its "Green Choices" program, with such measures as:
o Infrastructure: Use of Energy Star compliant lighting fixtures, substituting halogen lighting for incandescent down-lights, and installing locally produced building materials with longer life cycles. Water-conserving programs abound in-room and hotel-wide
o Sustainable Dining: Trellis, the hotel restaurant, features cuisine with seasonal, fresh produce cultivated and harvested from Chef Brian Scheehser's own three-acre, transitional, salmon-safe farm in nearby Woodinville. Also:
o All fryer oil is recycled and used for bio-diesel.
o All egg and produce food scraps are composted for use on Chef's Farm.
o A greenhouse built on the farm in 2008 yields fresh produce year-round, making the restaurant more sustainable and cutting food miles.
o Intelligent environmental control thermostats that allow for preferred comfort level when room is occupied, returning automatically to established low energy levels when room is unoccupied (via a sensor module).
o Eco pet bed: In reducing the carbon "pawprint" of guests' pets, one of the hotel's three pet bed options includes the Organic Bumper Bed, made with a removable organic cotton cover and a cushion made from IntelliLoft fiber fill, wholly comprised of recycled soda bottles.
o Earth-friendly spa products: Heathman Hotel's Penterra Spa uses natural oils, organic ingredients and vegan nail polishes in its products during services.
o Furnished bicycles: free guest use of hotel-designated Swobo bicycles for up to four hours (helmets are provided and bicycles are thoroughly maintained and inspected). The bicycles help guest's reduce their carbon footprints while Kirkland sightseeing or commuting to nearby Google/downtown Kirkland offices.
o Adopt-a-park: The Heathman Hotel's green practices branch out into community stewardship opportunities for employees; it adopted the 10-acre Heritage Park (111 Waverly Way, Kirkland) filled with trails, displays and an historic meeting hall.
o Online Wall Street Journal: The hotel hosts a full access subscription for all guests, rather than creating paper waste from the print version, literally saving tons in waste--and energy.
o Guest room recycling: Recycling bins are supplied in each guest room; housekeeping provides additional sorting services.
o Hybrid hotel shuttle: The Heathman Hotel Kirkland recently invested in a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid for its main courtesy vehicle; it also contracted with Seattle Green Limo as its back-up town car service.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Jan. 7, 2010 - Exceeding the demands of time-pressed business travelers, The Heathman Hotel in Kirkland has installed a state-of-the-art guest kiosk in its lobby and implemented WiMax high speed modems for guests' offsite use.

Outfitted with a Sony L All-In-One Touchscreen PC, an ultra-fast online connection, and a color laser printer, the lobby kiosk quickly enables guests to access the Web, make dinner reservations, view maps, send email, and print documents. The kiosk's computer history is cleared daily for guest privacy; use is complimentary for all registered guests.

Another technological marvel for guests is the new Clearwire USB WiMax modem, offering broadband to go for business travelers. A limited number of the modems may be rented for $25/day, with unlimited data usage. Guests avoid limited WiFi hotspots while on the go and can conduct uninterrupted business with a constant, high speed connection. VIP and return guests enjoy free use of the modems on weekends, based on availability.

Two such Clearwire USB WiMax modems are also on board The Heathman Hotel's 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, which allows guests to seamlessly conduct online business while being driven to and from their destinations by hotel drivers.

Heathman Hotel garners AAA Four Diamond Award
Posted November 17, 2008
The Heathman Hotel, Restaurant and Spa-Kirkland announced they received the AAA Travel Guide's Four Diamond Award, according to a Oct. 15 press release. The prestigious award is given to a select group of hotels and restaurants based on standards of comfort, cleanliness, and hospitality. Started in 1977, the AAA Diamond Awards are one of the oldest and most widely distributed rating standards in the travel industry.

We are thrilled to receive this honor from AAA, and the timing is impeccable as we mark the first anniversary of the Heathman Hotel in Kirklands unveiling, said Les Utley, general manager. To have achieved one of the Associations highest rankings in our first year of operation is a true testament to the original vision for the property as well as to the ongoing commitment of our staff to pamper each guest.

Opened in October 2007, the Heathman Hotel in downtown Kirkland was one of more than 60,000 lodgings and restaurants throughout North America evaluated by AAA professional inspectors. Less than 4 percent of evaluated properties met the rigorous standards to earn an AAA Four Diamond Award. Kirkland's other high-end hotel at Carillon Point, The Woodmark, is also a Four Diamond winner for 19 years running. Bellevue's Club, Hyatt Regency and Westin hotels are also Four Diamond winners.

AAA Four Diamond lodgings " such as the Heathman Hotel in Kirkland " are part of an elite group that continues to set the standard for personal service, first-class amenities and exquisite surroundings, said Steve Pomranz, AAAs Travel Services vice president. The care that the Heathman Hotels staff takes ensures that their guests will have an experience they will never forget.

Their highest award -- Five Diamonds -- is rarely given. The only hotel in the Puget Sound to hold that distinction is The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle.
