I love Fairmonts but especially loved the Fairmont Kea Lani. The Concierge was excellent and helped me with arranging dinner reservations and tours.

Our group loves the all-suite concept and the villas are a great option for families. The conference service staff is exceptional and very accommodating. The beach and several pools are outstanding and the nearby area offers great shopping, restaurants and activities.

AWAKENING VISITORS TO HAWAIIAN CANOE CULTURE
Posted May 6, 2009
The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui offers participants a truly unique and exclusive opportunity to get immersed in the ways of the Islands early seafarers through its Hawaiian Canoe Experience.

Participants learn the basics of paddling, the history of the canoe and its importance to Hawaiian heritage, and examples of native chants used when navigating the ocean. Not only an instrument of fishing and sustenance gathering, the outrigger became the long distance means by which Hawaiians and the greater Polynesian society projected both settlements and conquests. The Fairmonts traditional Hawaiian ocean voyage is lead by knowledgeable, experienced staff.

This unique perspective into Hawaiian culture comes courtesy of the resorts cultural advisor, Leonard Kimokeo Kapahulehua. For years, it had been my goal to actively share Hawaiian culture with our hotel guests, explained Kapahulehua. A cultural leader on Maui, Kapahulehua has inspired others by his passion for canoe culture and dedication to preserving Hawaiis history.

The canoe experience became a reality in 2001, when Christof Luedi was named General Manager of The Fairmont Kea Lani and began incorporating elements of Hawaiian culture into the slate of guest activities. "Hawaiian culture and history is immensely fascinating. I firmly believe visitors to Hawaii want to experience the true spirit of the land and ocean in ways they can only do in Hawaii," Luedi said.
