The Carolina Inn sits on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, chartered in 1789 as the first public college in America. Known as “The University's Living Room” since it opened in 1924, and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 184-room inn still plays a central role in the business and social life of Chapel Hill.
The property boasts architectural significance in addition to its rich cultural history. The noted architect Arthur C. Nash modeled the building's facade after George Washington's Mt. Vernon and set everything in the midst of stately oaks, magnolias, and a broad green lawn. Millions of dollars in renovations expanded the walls and kept the facilities up to date over the years, but the inn never wavered in its commitment to providing the utmost in luxury and a traditional Chapel Hill welcome for its guests.
Meetings, banquets, and academic conferences of all sizes gather in over 13,000 square feet of space for events, including three ballrooms with seating for up to 350, intimate parlors with fireplaces, a sunroom and patio, and the Piedmont Room for private dining at the Carolina Crossroads Restaurant & Bar. While colleagues make history of their own at the inn, the portals of higher learning and the shops, restaurants, and nightlife of Franklin Street wait just a short stroll away.
The Carolina Inn proved to be the ideal place for our annual meeting. The setting was perfect for our global attendees.
