The Carlyle Unveils Redesigned Versailles & Trianon Suites

NEW YORK - Since its opening in 1930, The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel has been the epicenter of the city's social circle, playing host to leaders of industry, politics, society and the arts. With its fusion of modern refinement and classic architecture, the newly restored Versailles and Trianon banquet spaces reflect The Carlyle's commitment to its role as a social haven for top New York events.
The Trianon and Versailles suites epitomize the ultimate in old New York glamour. Taking cues from Dorothy Draper, an early contributor to the Carlyle's opulent style, the design duo of Matthew White and Frank Webb used exquisite custom wall treatments, which incorporate muted gilding and shimmering textures. Sporting a faux shagreen backdrop, the imagery is classic Art Deco, but the execution is wittily modern.
Guests will feel truly content in the elegant private residential atmosphere of the Versailles Room, where soft cream wall coverings emphasize the natural sunlight of the South-facing space and elegant draperies in brown and gold provide visual interest. The materials used throughout are luxurious and sensuous, including custom made wool carpet, embossed velvet chairs, mirrored panels and dore bronze sconces tucked within this elegant room. The designers' favorite element is Mitchell Gold's Rennie sofa, a comfortable, simply stylish and subtly Deco piece that is upholstered in Fadini Borghi velvet and featured in both suites. With rich and dramatic window treatments balanced by bright, warm, creamy walls, the room feels like a chic, Parisian salon.
For the Trianon Room, brighter whites, touches of contrasting, cool blue and sparkling silver create a lively and elegant space. By painting the ceiling a watery color, and emphasizing the soft curves and cool blue stripes in the drapery, the room takes on an ethereal feeling. Cool and bright, sleek and chic, the room is truly uplifting, and with an elegant marble mantle fireplace as the primary focal point in the room, Trianon takes on a cozy and distinctly residential feel. Finally, the room's former bronze sconces were exchanged for gleaming nickel lanterns, which have literally transformed the space and gives it a glow.
Between the suites lies a glamorous lobby where the shimmer of gold, the reflection of custom mirrors, and the sensuousness of velvet are central elements of the design lending it the aura of a suave, members-only club.
These banquet suites include a discreet and polished staff with world-class dining and entertainment. Stretching over 3,781 square feet, the Versailles and Trianon suites can truly play host to any event, and are ideal settings for parties, weddings and anniversaries as well as board meetings and business entertainment. A full cadre of catering menus and customized services are also available to complement the setting, including an on-site floral designer, L'Olivier.
Standing at the corner of 76th Street and Madison Avenue, The Carlyle has been an enduring landmark for East Side social life since 1930. The internationally acclaimed hotel has always been ranked amongst the best in the world and was recently named one of the top 20 U.S City Hotels by Andrew Harper's 2007 Reader Survey. The Carlyle is a 35-story, 187-room hotel that has long understood the aesthetic sensibilities of its clientele and is surrounded by galleries, designer boutiques and the city's most popular art museums. Embracing a passion for the arts, pianos grace many of the suites and many rooms offer views of Central Park.
