Ian Schrager hand-picked the best of boutique, luxury, and select service hospitality when he conceived his vision for PUBLIC Chicago. The onetime Ambassador East Hotel and its historic Pump Room restaurant gained a new lease on life thanks to Schrager’s visionary new hospitality experience grounded in service, style, and value.

Highlights of the new hotel: 285 individually furnished guest rooms turned out in a sophisticated neutral palette, a screening room, lobby Living Room with communal work spaces and comfortable seating, and a 24-hour lobby minibar. The hallowed Pump Room, which once hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart, received a makeover of both mood and menu. James Beard Award–winning chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten updated the menu’s classic items to incorporate his focus on farm-to-table, organic, sustainable cuisine.
