Posted 20 Jan, 2012 by Abrahan Garcia

Dominican Airports Get Even Better
Posted 20 Jan, 2012 by Abrahan Garcia Bringing a program to the DR has never looked so good!
The Dominican Republic's two leading airports have both sought to give travelers the feel of being in the Caribbean while incorporating the most modern technology.

In time for the peak winter travel months, Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) inaugurated its new control tower and second runway, becoming the first local airport with two runways. The new runway was built to withstand whatever the climate can throw at it and provides 360 views and state-of-the-art technology for better servicing of arriving and departing flights.

The new Punta Cana runway is 3,000 meters long (10,171 feet long and 150 feet wide) and was built to cater for the largest aircraft in service today, including the Jumbo, extended range Airbus, B-787. PUJ receives about 60% of the country's total air arrivals.

Punta Cana International Airport is the Caribbean's leading airport in terms of the number of flights from several destinations and the new facilities make PUJ the most modern air terminal in Central America and the Caribbean.
New flights to Punta Cana (PUJ)
Jet Blue and AA, the major US carriers, have increased seats to PUJ this season by almost 6%. Copa, LAN and GOL have also increased capacities.

Frontier Airlines recently received United States approval to operate year-round services from Chicago to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, beginning 1 June. The connection is one to consider for travelers connecting through gateways at Denver, St. Louis and Baltimore/Washington.

Sun Country Airlines have announced a new weekly non-stop service between Lansing and Punta Cana. Westjet have also announced new direct flights from Halifax.

Flights from the US will increase this season (Jan - Apr 2012) bringing the total number of US flights to 2,675, or 420,000 seats.

Sourrounded by pristine white beaches and rolling waves
Posted 25 Apr, 2011 by Caroline Musy This is your paradise
With over thirty miles of fine white sand beach the area of Bavaro has seen a huge growth in tourism compared to the rest of the Dominican Republic. The area of Bavaro boasts more than 30 hotels from boutique to large resorts offering first class accommodations, magnificent entertainment, land sports, water sports, jeep Safari, pools, music halls, disco clubs, bars and golf courses. The incomparable beauty is shared among the guests of all the hotels; the extraordinary long stretch of Bavaro beach, an intense blue sky, slightly dotted and the aqua colored sea that extends out to the Caribbean Sea. Many of the beaches have their own particular name although collectively they are called Bavaro which includes the whole coastal area. Descending from the north extreme end of the island you find Uvero Alto, Macao, "El Cortecito", "Cabeza de Toro", "Cabo Engaño", Punta Cana and Juanillo.

The East Coast region of the Dominican Republic contains the most popular and fastest growing tourist area in the country - Punta Cana/Bavaro. One look at the surroundings and there is no question as to why. This is the place to be if tourists are seeking an all-inclusive style vacation set on one of the most picturesque beaches in the world.

Punta Cana, it's all about the beach. Punta Cana is undeniably breathtaking with tall swaying palms scattered along 21 miles of some of the whitest and finest coral sand beaches in the world. The area has become a haven for vacationers who are seeking a beach chair, a Piña Colada and a good read.

Punta Cana is the perfect atmosphere for families, couples or friends who are looking for a resort-style vacation. Just about every tour embarks from this area so no one in the group can complain about being bored.

Among the many activities one can enjoy in Punta Cana are:

Diving and Snorkeling
Punta Cana features the longest coral reef on the island. If the ocean is not favorable for diving during a stay, a fresh water dive inland can be arranged and will provide a different type of underwater experience.

Golf
Cocotal Golf and Country Club Pepe Gancedo-designed course The 18-hole course, designed by six-time Spanish champion Jose Pepe Gancedo, uses the natural terrain of an old coconut plantation and includes serene lakes and palm trees in its landscape. In 2002, an additional nine-hole course opened. Located close to Sol Melia Caribe and Sol Melia Tropical resorts in Punta Cana, the club offers lessons at its International Golf Academy with Douglas Falconer, a British PGA-award winning professional instructor.
