Omni Shoreham Hotel

More than 75 years of hosting U.S. presidents and other world leaders has made the Omni Shoreham Hotel a true institution in the nation's capital. Groups convening at this AA four-diamond landmark hotel enjoy an appealing blend of Old World charm and New World technology.

The 100,000 square feet includes a 40,887-square-foot exhibit hall and a total of seven magnificent ballrooms—the most of any hotel in Washington, D.C. All of the ballrooms show off unique architectural features, such as plaster friezes. The Palladian Ballroom displays a series of murals by James Reynolds depicting Thomas Jefferson's life. Two spacious outdoor areas stage dramatic settings for special events.

All 834 accommodations recently received updates to polish a look of stately elegance. All have refrigerators, in-room safes, dual phone lines, voice mail, and high-speed Internet service. Twentyfour-hour room service allows for late-night brainstorm sessions in the comfort of the rooms, while Robert's Restaurant affords an upscale setting overlooking Rock Creek Park and a menu that includes steamed lobster, Maryland crab cakes and other sophisticated American fare.

Omni's many conveniences include the hotel's location. Its home in the Northwest area of Washington, D.C., place it just one block from the Woodley Park Metro station, minutes from Georgetown, and less than two miles from the White House, Capitol, and Smithsonian Institution museums.

This hotel was challenging for us in terms of the physical location, the layout of the ballroom space and the attitude of the staff. Once you arrive, it is lovely because the lobby is beautiful and the gardens outside are beautiful - you forget you are in a city location. However, you are quickly brought back to reality because the culture of service is lacking and you chock that up to being in the city. The sleeping room renovation is very well done, although the rooms are not large, they are nicely decorated and well appointed. The ballroom was beautiful, just not the right room for us - lots of columns and hard to work our AV around. Food and beverage quality was okay, but not impressive (same vegetable and starch for dinner both nights). Overall, the attendees enjoyed the content of the program - which is most important.

This joint convention between our organization and one of our national partners was held at the Omni in June 2004 for 1,500 attendees.

It was the second joint convention between our non-profit organizations. The overall evaluations from our membership were superb. I would highly recommend this hotel since it is very well respected in the DC area. The location is fabulous and the historical nature of the hotel is also quite interesting.
