Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Larry Hagman and Linda Grey, who starred in the TV series Dallas, cut the ribbon that launched the Omni Dallas Hotel in November 2011. The celebration marked a high point in the renaissance of downtown Dallas. Owned by the city and managed by Omni Hotels & Resorts, the new 23-story steel and glass structure brought 1,001 luxury guest rooms and 39 meeting rooms to the heart of town. Not incidentally, a sky bridge leads from the 111,000 square feet for meetings to another 2.1 million square feet at the Dallas Convention Center next door.
Dallas pride shines through everything at the hotel, from the property-wide floor-to-ceiling windows to the 7,000-piece art collection, Dallas’s signature red Pegasus embroidered on the bedding, and the Dallas Ballroom’s 31,733-square-foot carpet patterned after the city’s freeway system. Five restaurants include the Owner’s Box, a 78-screen interactive sports bar and grill; a Bob’s Steak & Chop House; and Texas Spice, a local farm-to-city dining room led by Executive Chef Jason Weaver.
Texas Spice shows off a reclaimed brick wall from a historic Dallas grocer, a recycled bit of nostalgia that only hints at the hotel’s top-to-bottom LEED Silver certification—yet another great point of pride. In addition, the pride extends to a world-class Mokara Spa, fitness center, and seventh-floor pool whose infinity edge merges visually with the Big D skyline.

Luxury Hotel Celebrates Official Grand Opening
DALLAS (November 11, 2011) – Today the City of Dallas and Omni Hotels & Resorts held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the opening of the Omni Dallas Hotel. A little more than two years after the groundbreaking, the convention center hotel is officially open for business. Owned by the City of Dallas, the luxury hotel is located on eight acres in the heart of the nation’s eighth-largest city, which is experiencing a renaissance from more than $14 billion in new development underway in and near the urban core.
“As we open the doors to the Omni Dallas Hotel today, we can confidently say Dallas is again competitive,” said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. “We have reinvigorated our world-class reputation in the large meetings and convention industry.”
With great anticipation surrounding the opening, the Omni Dallas Hotel has already contracted nearly 300,000 room nights. The hotel, serving as another catalyst for growth, has been instrumental in helping Dallas secure future city-wide meetings and conventions. In the 24 months prior to the May 2009 announcement of the hotel, the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau booked 18 citywide meetings. Since then, the group has booked 55.
“It is an honor to be a part of this important project, and we look forward to the large influx of conventions and meetings the hotel will bring to our city,” said Jack Matthews, President, Matthews Southwest, the project’s developer. “We are proud to say the hotel is opening more than two months ahead of schedule and under budget. This was made possible by the collaboration between the City of Dallas, Balfour/Russell/Pegasus, 5Gstudio_collaborative, BOKA Powell and Omni Hotels & Resorts.”
“This is about more than just a hotel – it is a symbol of our city’s dedication to our future,” said Ed Netzhammer, managing director of the Omni Dallas Hotel. “From the developer and construction team to architects and design firms, I want to thank everyone who had a hand in making this become a reality.”
The Omni Dallas Hotel offers a cosmopolitan yet refined feel showcasing the essence of Dallas with a contemporary glass exterior and native textures, art and other materials enriching the interior. The hotel features more than 7,000 original pieces of art from 150 local artists in the guest rooms and the public spaces. Connected to the Dallas Convention Center by skybridge, the hotel has 1,001 guest rooms and incorporates more than 110,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Included among its 39 meeting rooms are the Dallas and Trinity Ballrooms, encompassing 32,000 and 15,000 square feet respectively.
Dining and leisure options include:
• Bob’s Steak & Chop House, the iconic steak house that is also a longtime Dallas favorite.
• Texas Spice, a casual farm-to-market restaurant that utilizes the area’s freshest products.
• The Owners Box, a state-of-the-art sports bar with the latest technology, including an 18-foot
screen TV and 65-foot long bar.

OMNI DALLAS HOTEL OUTLINES SUSTAINABILITY PLANS
Posted April 15, 2011
Luxury Hotel at Dallas Convention Center Being Constructed for LEED Silver New Construction
DALLAS (April xx, 2011) – The Omni Dallas Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Dallas, has outlined its sustainability plan which will lead to the property’s LEED Silver New Construction (NC) certification upon opening. The plan includes use of recycled and regionally-sourced materials, reduced construction pollution and water conservation initiatives.
“Earning the LEED Silver New Construction status will be a tremendous accomplishment – one made possible by the tremendous efforts of the City, Matthews Southwest, Balfour/Russell/Pegasus, 5Gstudio_collaborative, BOKA Powell, Vivian-Nichols Associates and every team member who has a hand in keeping the project focused on sustainability,” said Nils Stolzlechner, general manager of the Omni Dallas Hotel. “These efforts will continue upon the hotel’s opening to provide an eco-friendly environment for our associates, guests and the community.”
Scheduled to open early in 2012, the property has employed a recycling program for all construction waste. The Omni Dallas Hotel is also utilizing recycled and regional materials throughout the construction process. For example, the interior design for the hotel’s three-meal-a-day restaurant, Texas Spice, includes reclaimed timber and brick. Additionally, certified wood is being used for 50 percent of the wood-based material to encourage environmentally responsible forest management.
The hotel’s design will reduce the amount of storm water run-off with a 25,000-gallon cistern to capture water as a means of irrigation in lieu of city water, limiting the use of potable water and other resources. The northwest corner of the property will feature a rain garden designed to help with run-off. Furthermore, the water softener system is tied to the cooling tower – which helps the efficiency of the system – and will reduce water and chemical usage, both will have a positive environmental impact.
The hotel sits in an area with a significant public transportation infrastructure, thus inhibiting the number of car commuters and reducing pollution, and upon completion, the property will have numerous bike racks and onsite changing rooms. All of the 720 parking spaces provided will be covered, which limits the heat island effect.
Other sustainable efforts include:
• Roof materials feature solar reflective indexes to help with heat island effects.
• Systems for lighting and thermal control. Examples include guest rooms equipped with a key switching system where guests put the room key into a slot to turn on lights and have control of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system. When removed, the HVAC system sets back to a preset temperature and the lights automatically shut off.
• The indoor air quality management plan will reduce Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problems resulting from construction, and the team is using low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) products such as paints, adhesives and carpet systems.
The project is overseen by numerous LEED accredited professionals, ranging from the design-builders staff to various engineers and consultants. Balfour/Russell/Pegasus, the construction company responsible for the project, hired a LEED consultant to ensure the project is built to meet the credit requirements established by the US Green Building Council.
