Mondrian South Beach

Mondrian made quite a splash when it opened in December 2008 on the Biscayne Bay waterfront. One part art-deco moderne, one part surrealistic fairy tale, the $150-million renovation of a 16-story residential tower reflects the vision of noted Dutch designer Marcel Wanders. Outside, curvaceous columns, baroque sculptures, and an infinity pool frame the Miami Beach sunset like a Salvador Dali painting. Whimsical touches include a giant outdoor chandelier and cabanas lined with living foliage.

Designed for everything from serious business to social events, the mezzanine holds two flexible conference rooms and entertainment terraces. Planners also have access to boardrooms and production, wardrobe, makeup, and casting rooms as well as the hotel's celebrated restaurant, bayside bar and grill, pool deck, and 335 privately owned studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, and 3,000-square-foot penthouses adjoined by 2,000-square-foot terraces.

The dining outlets include Jeffrey Chodorow's celebrated restaurant, Asia de Cuba, complete with royal communal table and private dining gardens. Nightlife empresario Ben Pundole conceptualized the atmosphere at Sunset Lounge—multiple fantasy spaces designed by Marcel Wanders accompanied by cutting-edge music and trendsetting cocktails. Also on tap: a fullservice spa, fitness center, 40-slip marina, and access to the beach club at Delano and the SkyBar at Shore Club, Morgans Hotel Group's equally chic sister hotels just minutes away.
