Set on 60 acres at the beginning of the Las Vegas Strip, Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino combines 1.7 million square feet of meeting space with 4,328 accommodations and one of the world's great lineups of entertainment options. Highlights include an 11-acre beach with wave pool, plus a lazy river, three pools, jogging track, 135,000-square-foot casino, 30,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, Broadway-style theater featuring Disney's The Lion King, and Events Center seating up to 12,000 people. Twenty-four lounges and restaurants range from casual to gastronomic meccas led by celebrity chefs.
Planners find the 1.7 million square feet of meeting and exhibit space concentrated at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. It contains four ballrooms—including the largest pillarless ballroom on the west coast—and enough breakout space to hold more than 75 meetings at once. Despite the vast size and scope of meeting possibilities, separate convention, trade show,
and executive meetings teams see to planners' needs individually—then at least one manager per group oversees everything on the spot.
Productive days of meetings or nights on the town end in stylish contemporary accommodations equipped with the latest twenty-first century amenities. A 43-story tower on the property, THEhotel, adds another 1,117 suites for VIPs; Four Seasons Hotels manages another 424 rooms in the main tower; and neighboring Mandalay Place adds another 40 shops and restaurants. In the unlikely event that anyone ever needs additional options, a monorail system connects to the Luxor and Excalibur hotels, which pulsate day and night at the very heart of The Strip.

We have held our annual Sales Convention at Mandalay Bay more than once and we are anxious to go back. Their meeting space and guest rooms are great, but it's their service that we appreciate the most. With standing room only for 7,000+ or handling attrition in the tough times the service level in consistently terrific. Sales, Conference Services and Catering are all way beyond our expectations every single time.

Enjoyed all this property had to offer. Given the size of the hotel it was fairly easily navigated. There was plenty of staff on hand to help with any needs. The food was excellent, definitely had a wide variety to chose from.

I have done several events at this property and it's probably my fave on the strip. The Union piece is annoying - you are constantly nickled and dimed, but such is Vegas. I love everything about this property for a meeting hotel.

Great meeting space and tradeshow space. Pillars and columns can be an issue if not carefully planned for. F&B was okay. Rooms great and access to strip easy. Some nice give-a-ways disappeared, so watch your valuables.

MGM Resorts Installs First Personal Electric Vehicle Charging Station On Las Vegas Strip
Posted 11 Jul, 2011 by Shameka Alford
MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) today debuted the Company’s first Electric Vehicle Charging Station and the first such facility on the Las Vegas Strip for environmentally conscious consumers driving the cleanest, most advanced vehicles on the road.
This new Charging Station is located at the valet entrance to The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, between Mandalay Bay and Luxor resorts. Charging service is available free of charge to retail and resort customers driving personal electric vehicles, like the Nissan LEAF and the Chevy Volt.
“This is a tremendous first for The Shoppes and our customers. We all share in our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Brian Robison, Vice President & General Manager of The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. “To have the first public electric car charging station on the Strip is an honor for us and a convenience for our like-minded customers. We hope they get a real ‘charge’ out of shopping with us.”
To take advantage of this new amenity, drivers simply pull into one of the two specially designated parking spaces reserved exclusively for personal electric vehicles and plug into the easy-to-use PEP Station to charge their vehicle. Each station has a touch-screen interface that guides users through steps to safely charge their electric vehicle.
Two celebrities of the sustainability world were on hand to mark the occasion and assist with a debut of the charging facility.
-Chef Rick Moonen, best-selling author and one of the world’s leading advocates for the use of sustainable seafood in the food industry
-The Nissan LEAF, one of the most sought-after vehicles on the road today and, according to USA Today, the top-selling electric vehicle in the U.S. for the first six months of 2011
“I couldn’t be more proud that Mandalay Place is first with this forward-thinking program,” said Chef Moonen. “Someone has to take the leadership role and I’m happy MGM Resorts is willing to move toward a better way of doing things.”
Chef Moonen, known for his appearances on national television programs like Bravo’s “Top Chef,” also operates the two rm seafood restaurants inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place.
MGM Resorts energy experts say this is an important first step that reflects the Company’s continued commitment to environmental responsibility in the hospitality industry.
“Consumer demand for this type of equipment is just in its earliest stages, but like anything new, its growth must be fostered by those who believe in it most,” said Cindy Ortega, MGM Resorts Sr. Vice President of Energy and Environmental Services. “Now is the most important time for companies like MGM Resorts to show our support, so others - consumers, car manufacturers and rental car agencies - feel comfortable enough to enter this important emerging market.”

MANDALAY BAY BECOMES ONE OF ONLY SIX US RESORTS TO EARN HIGHEST RATING FROM GREEN KEY GLOBAL ECO-RATING PROGRAM
Posted 17 Nov, 2010 by Concierge Elite
MGM Resorts International Continues Environmental Leadership in Hospitality Industry
LAS VEGAS - November 17, 2010 - MGM Resorts International, a global leader in bringing sustainability to the hospitality industry, announced today that the Green Key Global Eco-Rating Program elevated Mandalay Bay Resort to its highest, Five Key rating. Mandalay Bay joins only six other US resorts to achieve this honor.
Designed specifically for hotel operations, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program is a comprehensive environmental audit and is the first of its kind to rank, certify and inspect hotels and resorts in North America based on their commitment to sustainable "green" operations.
Mandalay Bay's sustainability status was raised by Green Key following the implementation of new green practices into the resort's internal sustainability program.
The recognition of the program's highest award now gives MGM Resorts International three of the six properties in the United States to have received five keys under the program, which evaluates hotels based on their commitment to sustainable operations. ARIA and Vdara at CityCenter are the other MGM Resorts properties to have received the recognition.
"Achieving leadership in environmental responsibility is about maintaining a commitment to continuous improvement in our every day operations," said Chuck Bowling, President and COO of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. "While receiving Four Keys in July was a significant honor, we were not satisfied and knew our team at Mandalay Bay was capable of meeting the standards for Five Key recognition. We met these standards by bolstering our commitment to transparency in our overall operations, gaining better insight into our sustainable supply chain, engaging employees, and increasing guest outreach and education. Our sustainability program has fulfilled one of its goals, and now it is time to continue building on this terrific achievement as focus on the next set of goals and priorities for 2011."
Some of the new features of the Mandalay Bay sustainability effort include incentivizing employees for their environmental innovation through awards and recognitions, including suppliers' environmental policies, into the process of making purchasing decisions, providing more in-room information for guests about the property's environmental goals and performance, and putting into place new procedures to reduce energy usage in Housekeeping operations.
MGM Resorts International reported in 2009 that Mandalay Bay's electricity consumption was reduced by 4.9% from 2008 levels, saw a 51.3% decrease in its natural gas bill compared to 2008 spending, lowered water consumption by 4.7% between 2008 and 2009, and reduced property-wide waste by 18.7%
"The team at Mandalay Bay proactively sought to identify additional opportunities to make its operations more environmentally friendly," said Cindy Ortega, Senior Vice President of the Energy and Environmental Services Division at MGM Resorts International. "Having this type of leadership in place is a real game changer for us. In all of our efforts, our properties focus on five key pillars of sustainability - energy and water conservation, green building, recycling and waste management, sustainable supply chain management, and outreach and education. This enables us to focus on consistently setting a new standard of sustainability in the hospitality industry while providing our guests with the same, high-quality experience they have come to expect from us. Achieving Five Keys is a significant accomplishment for Mandalay Bay and we are very proud of our Green Wave team members and their commitment to environmental responsibility."
Other MGM Resorts International properties also submitted Green Key evaluations. Bellagio, Excalibur, Luxor, MGM Grand Las Vegas, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York and MGM Grand Detroit all received Four Keys. Circus Circus Las Vegas earned Three Keys.
The latest recognition of Mandalay Bay is just one of many that the Company and its properties have received this year for their sustainability efforts. It recently received recognition convention industry honors from Gold Platter and Gold Key, and in October, Newsweek named MGM Resorts International to its 2010 Green Rankings list as the highest-rated company in the gaming hospitality space. During the same month, Travel + Leisure honored the Company with one of its Global Vision Awards for its leadership in harnessing travel to positively impact the world, as demonstrated by CityCenter, which, at 18 million square feet and, is the world's largest sustainable mixed-use development. In 2009, CityCenter opened as the nation's largest green development, earning six LEED Gold Certifications from the US Green Building Council.

MGM Resorts International Named As Recipient Of 2010 Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award
Posted 11 Nov, 2010 by Concierge Elite
MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL NAMED AS RECIPIENT OF
2010 TRAVEL + LEISURE GLOBAL VISION AWARD
Prestigious Award Recognizes CityCenter
for Pioneering Achievements and Contributions
to Improve the World Through Sustainable Travel
LAS VEGAS - November 11, 2010 - MGM Resorts International, a global leader in bringing sustainability to the hospitality industry, announced today that Travel + Leisure named the Company as a recipient of its 2010 Global Vision Award for the contributions CityCenter is making to improving the world through travel. CityCenter garnered six LEED Gold Certifications, and at 18 million square feet, is the largest environmentally sustainable, mixed-use construction development in the world.
"We are extremely proud of this award and honored that Travel + Leisure has recognized the quality and leadership that MGM Resorts International represents when it comes to environmental sustainability," said Cindy Ortega, Senior Vice President of the Energy and Environmental Services Division at MGM Resorts International. "CityCenter is a perfect example of how we are driving a new paradigm of sustainability in Las Vegas and the hospitality industry in general, and we remain committed to improving these efforts at all of our properties each and every day. Most importantly, this award is a true testament to the talent of our employees who are personally driving our environmental responsibility vision forward."
The 2010 Global Vision Award is one of several impressive industry awards that the Company has received for its sustainability efforts. Earlier this month, Newsweek named MGM Resorts International to its annual Green Rankings list as the highest-rated company in the gaming and casino space. In July of this year, the Green Key Global Eco-Rating Program recognized 12 MGM Resorts properties for their exceptional efforts in "greening" their business operations. This includes ARIA Resort & Casino, Vdara Hotel & Spa and Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, which are three of only four properties in the United States to have received 5 Keys, the highest honor of the Eco-Rating Program.
Travel + Leisure's annual Global Vision Awards honor the companies and organizations that are harnessing travel to positively impact our world. According to the 2010 Global Vision Awards, MGM Resorts was honored because, even though Las Vegas may seem like an unlikely paragon of sustainability, CityCenter is anything but conventional. This leadership is reflected in CityCenter's cutting-edge green-building techniques and how it is giving classic Vegas luxuries a new twist. But the sheer scale of CityCenter's accomplishments is what is most notable. The development's efficiency initiatives alone save an estimated 94 million kWh of energy and 50 million gallons of water each year, making it a clear leader in improving the world through sustainable travel.
The winners of the Global Vision Awards were chosen by an esteemed panel of seven judges, including Nobel-prize winning economist Dr. Joseph Stiglitz; model, designer, and goodwill ambassador for the World Health Organization Liya Kebede; and Oscar-winning documentarian (The Cove) Louie Psihoyos. The winners are recognized in five categories-conservation, sustainability, preservation, development, and leadership-and represent the latest and best examples of the power of travel as an engine of positive change.
