Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Corporate groups return year after year to the Longboat Key Club & Resort, drawn back by the familiar elegance of a country club and the charm of a beachfront island resort. The only beachfront AAA Four Diamond Award winner in Sarasota County, it neighbors million-dollar homes on Longboat Key, Florida, just eight miles by causeway from Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.
Most of the 218 accommodations entertain with full kitchens, and all feature balconies overlooking the gulf, lagoon, or golf course. The largest gatherings convene at the Resort Center, where the main venue, the John Ringling Room, hosts up to 250 for business or pleasure. A second room, the library, sequesters 10 around a fixed boardroom table; while two additional meeting suites wait in a neighboring building. Meanwhile, restaurants at the Islandside and Harbourside Clubhouses invite groups to feast beside the fairways. Two equally popular dining venues—the pool deck and beach—specialize in casually elegant cocktails and cookouts by the sea.
All meeting spaces lie just steps from the beach, which suggests such team-building programs as volleyball tournaments or sandcastle contests. A deep-water marina, elaborate spa, 20-court tennis club, and 45 holes of golf contribute endless options for group activity as well. In addition, the staff can arrange excursions to a wealth of nearby attractions, including the Mote Aquarium and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
Planner Reviews
From our planner community
June 2012 will be the 26th year in a row that Paragon Management has held a motivational meeting for it's staff and clients. We have thought about finding another resort to hold our meeting but The Longboat Key Resort has spoiled us. They are always spot on with help, equipment, ideas, delicious food, impressive service - I can't say enough about this facility. The most important strength to me as a meeting planner is the long term staff. I no longer have to do much work - they know our group, are ready for us and I trust them. I consider many of the professionals at The Longboat Key Club not only colleagues...but friends. The resort is beautiful, the beach is magnificent, I can't wait to get back.

The Board of Directors of Des Moines University determines annually where their educational retreat will be held and for the past 4 years we have held this event at the Longboat Key Club and Resort. Once again I am excited to be returning to the resort in February, 2012. No detail is ignored; no request dismissed. From the day of arrival until departure, the clean rooms, catering and the entire staff and management make my job so much easier and the experience enjoyable for everyone in attendance. I consistently receive excellent comments for those attending and always look forward to working with everyone connected with making our retreat the success it has been year after year.

We hosted twenty-five of our top customers at the Longboat Key Club and Resort and we couldn’t have asked for a higher quality experience. The staff and management at the resort are top-notch and took care of every last detail to make our customers’ stay incredible and one that they will remember for a long time. We heard nothing but outstanding feedback and reviews on our event from everyone that attended. We will definitely consider hosting another event there in the future.

True Fitness January 13, 2012
The Florida Society of Gynecologic Oncologists has been going to Longboat Key Club and Resort for our annual meetings for the last 17 years consecutively. The meeting facilities are outstanding. The resort personnel have always been exceptionally helpful in meeting our society’s needs including formal and informal meals and entertainment. Another advantage is the central location in the state so no one has to drive too far. I make this a family vacation each year because the rooms and suites are large and comfortable. There are also many outstanding restaurants, and shopping areas in close proximity. The society has looked at other sites but never found any location that compared to the Longboat Key Club and Resort.

The Longboat Key Club & Resort Named #1 Tennis Resort on the Gulf Coast of Florida and a Top Ten Tennis Resort Nationwide by Tennis Magazine
Posted February 13, 2012
The Tennis Gardens at Longboat Key Club & Resort, a USTA Award Winning Facility; Outstanding Instruction; Clinics and Game-Matching Capabilities; Concierge Services; Exceptional Resort Amenities and a Location on One of the Best Beaches in America Secures
[Longboat Key, FL – February 13, 2012] Longboat Key Club & Resort is proud to announce that it has been named the # 1 Tennis Resort on the Gulf Coast of Florida and one of the top ten Tennis Resorts nationwide by Tennis Magazine.
The just-released annual travel issue announcing the “Top 50 Tennis Resorts of 2012” lists the Longboat Key Club & Resort in the #1 spot for Tennis Resorts along the Gulf Coast of Florida, placing it as one of the top ten Tennis Resorts, out of fifty, nationwide. Widely acclaimed for The Tennis Gardens at Longboat Key Club & Resort, the facility received high praise for its USTA certified stadium court and state-of-the-art infrastructure including its patented underground HydroGrid watering system that allows for consistent playing conditions and limited downtime. Of paramount importance to the selection process were clinics and game–matching capabilities. Other criteria for inclusion in this highly regarded list include the number of courts, the quality of instruction and the quality of lodging, dining and overall resort amenities. Tennis Concierge services and the location on one of the best beaches in America were also noted. The scope of offerings at the Longboat Key Club & Resort make it one of the most sought after tennis resort experiences in the country.
“I am extremely proud that the Longboat Key Club & Resort has been recognized in such a significant way by such a respected publication, Tennis Magazine. To have achieved a #1 position in Florida, and be ranked as one of the top ten Tennis Resort facilities in the country, among so many outstanding facilities, is truly an honor,” said Michael Welly, General Manager of Longboat Key Club & Resort. “We are pleased that our efforts to create a tennis facility and resort destination of this stature have been so well received by tennis pros, professional tournament players, our Club members and our resort guests with such enthusiasm. We stand committed to our culture of service excellence and will continue to create award winning offerings that can only be brought to life by a dedicated and talented staff. Congratulations to my entire team for their outstanding efforts.”
No stranger to awards, the Longboat Key Club & Resort was named one of the “Top Ten Gold Medal Tennis Resorts Worldwide” by Tennis Resorts Online in 2011 and The Tennis Gardens at Longboat Key Club & Resort was the recipient of the “USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year Award” in 2009. Home to the highly popular Sarasota Open, the $4.5 million tennis facility opened its doors in 2009 and hosts USTPA resident professionals for private and semi-private lessons and daily clinics. The facility features 20 Har-Tru clay courts, Hydro-Grid irrigation systems, lighted courts for evening play, a clubhouse, tennis concierge, pro-shop, locker rooms and meeting space. The center tournament court offers tented stadium seating for 500 – 2,500 attendees for celebrity tennis exhibitions and professional tournament play. Court 21 Café & Lounge, a tennis themed restaurant, offers healthy breakfast and luncheon options as well as dining on the outside player’s patio. In keeping with the strong community focus on culture and the Arts, The Tennis Gardens at Longboat Key Club & Resort also serves as a showcase for local artisans and sculptors, currently housing a display of Wave after Wave artworks by sculptor Malcolm Robertson. The Longboat Key Club & Resort offers the complete and quintessential luxury tennis resort experience.
Family-friendly, luxury resort amenities include a 218 room, 4-Diamond hotel located on a private, white-sand beach, seven distinctive restaurants, the Island House Spa, personalized Wellness and Fitness programs, two championship golf courses and a 291deep-slip Marina in addition to the award winning tennis facilities.
Most recently in the news announcing the event line-up for the 2012 Sarasota Open, this year’s tournament features an increased prize purse of 100K for the USTA, ATP Men’s Tournament and the addition of a Ladies Tournament. Tournament dates are April 14 – 22, 2012. The tournament continues to be a draw for top U.S. and international talents including Ryan Sweeting, Alex Bogomolov, Jr. and previous Sarasota Open winners James Blake, (2011) and Kei Nishikori, (2010).
