Loden Hotel wins a prestigious Five Star Diamond Award
Posted October 31, 2011
The Loden Hotel on Melville Street became the only organization in Canada to win the International Five Star Diamond Award for three straight years.

American Academy of Hospital Sciences president Joseph Cinque and international general manager Karen Lynn Dixon came to Vancouver to present the award on October 27 at a party at the Melville Street hotel, which was attended by numerous celebrities.

The hotel was developed by the de Cotiis family's company, Amacon. President Marcello de Cotiis and his sister Lilliana accepted the award.

Their father Amalio De Cotiis was posthumously recognized with the first Lifetime Achievement Award to be given in Canada.

Among those in attendance were CBC news anchor Gloria Macarenko, B.C. Lions centre Angus Reid, NPA mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton, and Shaw TV host Fiona Forbes.

The AAHS granted a restaurant award to the hotel's Tableau Bar Bistro, as well as a Chef Plate and Medallion Award to executive chef Marc-Andre Choquette.

The AAHS is based in New York and the board includes Donald Trump, as well as leaders in the hospitality industry. But the hotel isn't only winning awards from organizations outside of the country. Tableau was also named the Best New Restaurant by Georgia Straight readers this year in the annual Golden Plates Awards.

CBC news anchor Gloria Macarenko was among those offering congratulations to Marcello de Cotiis. Acress Christie Laing attended the event with her sister Nikki Laing. B.C.. Lions Jason Arakgo and Angus Reid dropped by the Loden.
Vancouver’s Loden Hotel Receives Prestigious International Five Star Diamond Award
Posted October 27, 2011
Vancouver, B.C. – (October 27, 2011) – The Loden Hotel has been awarded the International Five Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS), becoming the only organization in Canada to have received this honour for three consecutive years. The AAHS also bestowed Tableau Bar Bistro with a Restaurant Award and executive Chef Marc-Andre Choquette was awarded the Chef Plate and Medallion.

The AAHS is headquartered in New York City and is renowned worldwide for awarding excellence in the global travel and luxury services sector. It is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of hospitality industry leaders and celebrated chefs, who are themselves world travelers, including Donald Trump and Dr. Srgjan Kerim, president, United Nations. Each year, the Academy bestows its coveted International Star Diamond award on establishments that meet the requirements of a rigorous selection process.

To commemorate the awards, a celebration was held at the Loden Hotel on the evening of Thursday, October 27. Local celebrities and socialites attended the event which also marked the hotel’s third anniversary and an award-winning year. In addition to the AAHS accolades, Tableau was named Best New Restaurant in the Georgia Straight’s 2011 Best of Vancouver readers’ choice awards.

“We are honoured to receive the esteemed International Five Star Diamond award through the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences,” says Michael Love, general manager of the Loden Hotel. “2011 has been an extraordinary year for our team with the continued success of the Loden and the launch of Tableau. It’s a great cause for celebration.”

AAHS President Joseph Cinque and International General Manager Karen Lynn Dixon travelled to Vancouver for the event, which also saw Amalio De Cotiis posthumously acknowledged with the first Lifetime Achievement Award to be given in Canada. Marcello De Cotiis, president of Amacon, and Lilliana De Cotiis, director of marketing for the Loden Hotel, accepted the award for their father.

The event was hosted by TV personality Fiona Forbes. During the evening, guests explored the hotel which featured the Montecristo Watch Salon in the hotel’s Penthouse, Belmont Room 81, the JAC Rockstar Bar and the Terminal Station Sound Lounge. From luxurious jewels to the latest collection by local designer JAC, there was plenty to delight the guests.

A series of raffle draws were also held with all proceeds benefitting Growing Chefs!, a non-profit society that teaches kids about growing and cooking food. Prizes included jewellery from Montecristo Jewellers a one-night stay at the Loden’s penthouse suite, Halo, and an original piece of art from local artist Michele Kambolis.
