When it opens in March 2010, the JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. Live will anchor a remarkable sports and entertainment complex, ”L.A. LIVE,” the city’s next great gathering place and home to the nation’s most important award shows, premiers, conventions, celebrations, and cultural events.

The hotel, with its 879 guest rooms, including 35 suites, will be adjacent to ESPN’s West Coast Broadcast Studio and ESPN Zone, a Regal Cineplex, and the highly anticipated Grammy Museum. View RSS Feed The JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE has announced the appointment of Javier Cano as the general manager of the property. Born in Los Angeles, Cano brings more than 32 years of hospitality experience to his role, with 29 of those years spent in the Marriott family. As general manager, he will oversee all aspects of the 878-room hotel operations, including guest relations, front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, finances, team building and staff development.

"We set the bar very high for this position and, in the end, Javier's proven track record within the Marriott family showed us that he has the experience to handle this unique property," said Jim Kauffman, Western Region Executive Vice President of Marriott International. "With the combination of his level of expertise in the hospitality industry and the level of interest already being shown for the property, we have no doubt that the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE will exceed all expectations and assist in the revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles."

Cano most recently served as the general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii. In this position, Cano oversaw all aspects of the 548-room, AAA Five Diamond resort for nearly five years. Prior to that, he served as the area general manager for the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel, and in 2001, was named "General Manager of the Year" for the Western Region. This marked the second time Cano was awarded this prestigious title; he was named "General Manager of the Year" in 1999 while at the Marina Beach Marriott, where he worked from 1995 to 1999.

An active and committed community leader, Cano led the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel to a "Spirit to Serve" Award, an award given by Marriott International for outstanding community service, in 2000. In 2001, he was named "Volunteer of the Year" for Los Angeles County by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors for his work on several educational and service-oriented boards. Cano has served on the board of the local convention and visitor's bureau (CVB) in essentially every city in which he has lived, including assisting with the creation of the Marina del Rey CVB and recently rejoining the board of L.A. INC., the Los Angeles CVB. Cano also is a past president of the Westchester Chamber of Commerce.
