The Department of Environmental Protection Welcomes Intercontinental Tampa as a Member of the Florida Green Lodging Program
Posted October 31, 2008
TAMPA (2008)" InterContinental Tampa, Tampas newest luxury hotel, is recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for its conscientious approach to business. The 323-room urban oasis is now an official member of the Florida Green Lodging Program at the One Palm level. As a promise to conserve and protect Florida's natural resources, the property has implemented "green" practices such as water conservation, energy efficiency, recycling programs, waste reduction, eco-friendly products and clean air practices. As part of the clean air practices, all guest rooms and suites are cleaned with all natural green products that are non-toxic and biodegradable yet clean the rooms without hurting the environment.
Practicing conservation and recycling at a busy hotel, such as InterContinental Tampa, will have an immense positive effect on the environment. This gives us a chance to be a part of a larger movement set by the DEP, our business partners and most importantly the voices of our guests, says Charles Naberhaus, managing director of InterContinental Tampa.
In recognition of the need to preserve the world in which we operate and serve our guests, Destination Hotels & Resorts, the managing company of InterContinental Tampa is dedicated to practices and programs that pay respect to, and lessen our footprint on, our changing environment. As the fifth largest independent hospitality management company in the country, all Destination Hotels & Resorts properties are committed to creating a new benchmark for our hotels and resorts through a series of environmental initiatives.
The hospitality industry as a whole is a significant user of the earths natural resources, and that comes with a price. We felt that it was incumbent upon us to figure out ways to be more conscientious and resourceful, says Mark Hickey, senior vice president of U.S. hotel operations for DH&R. For us, this is not an initiative; its the way we do business. Its good for our customers, our communities, our associates and our investors.
