Bora Bora looms large in the imagination of many an island dreamer. And, to put it simply, InterContinental LeMoana Resort Bora Bora lives up to the dream—then takes it even further. The Polynesian-style resort nestles on the south side of Bora Bora at Point Matira, a narrow strip of land between two perfect beaches edged in the impossibly blue waters of Bora Bora’s legendary lagoon.
Guests live in 12 beach bungalows and 48 overwater bungalows, each with sun terrace, living room, bedroom, and bath. Two suites—one on the beach and the other offshore—offer the ultimate in executive retreats with their dual bungalows connected by shared living-room lounges under one thatched roof. Between water sports, sightseeing, and stargazing, colleagues can meet at the Poolside Terrace, Noa Noa Restaurant, or thatched-roof bar. Or not.

Richard Bailey, owner of the four InterContinental Resorts in French Polynesia, is also the manager of the non-profit foundation, Te Mana o Te Moana. The organization strives to protect marine environment, provides public education and continuously promotes eco-friendly practices throughout the InterContinental properties and local communities.
InterContinental Resorts French Polynesia
All four of the InterContinental Resorts are part of the international reef check program. This voluntary-based network is a research organization observing coral growth and educating the public for a better understanding of coral biology and monitoring of its health.
Each resort has a Green Team, a group of hotel staff members, including the in-house marine biologist/veterinarian, to brainstorm ideas to conserve and protect the environment.
As InterContinental French Polynesia is the founding member of the World Ocean Network, each year, the hotels participate in events such as World Ocean Day and Earth Day. Local seminars, marine biology tours and community volunteerism are just some of the on-going efforts InterContinental Resorts are actively involved in.
InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa
InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spas one-of-kind air-conditioning system operating with pure deep sea water is both revolutionary and as simple as child's play. Drawn from a depth of 3,000 feet, the system saves 90% of the hotels electricity consumption. When the water is returned to the sea, its re-routed to a depth of 197 feet to avoid damaging fish and coral.
The hotel has completed and sent to Green Globe its benchmarking assessment for 2007. The hotel started waste recycling initiated by Bora Bora municipality this year and converts green waste into compost. Irrigation water comes from recycled and captured rain water.
InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa
At InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa, the Moorea Dolphin Center offers interactive programs with bottlenose dolphins in order to educate both tourists and locals. The proceeds go to Te Mana o Te Moana to fund marine wildlife research and research grants. Complimentary education programs have reached more than 20,000 children from the local communities thus far.
InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa is also home to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center. Sanctioned by the Ministry of the Environment, this facility serves as a hospital to ill and injured turtles from all the islands in the French Polynesian group.
Additionally, the InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa has been benchmarked under the Green Globe program since 2005. In 2008, certification assessment is completed and will soon be send to Green Globe - an international certification program for sustainable travel & tourism.
In 2007, the hotel management took special water-saving measures (installed water saving-equipment, improved water saving measures in gardens) and obtained special waste containers for harmful waste. The hotel starts waste recycling in partnership with Moorea municipality. Green waste recycling is also planned this year.
InterContinental Tahiti Resort
The Hotel is the first in Tahiti which has been successfully benchmarked by the Green Globe eco label. InterContinental Tahiti Resort pays a special attention to cultural engagement with promotion of local traditional arts and legends. An exposition on local legends illustrated by children is planned in 2009.
