The InterContinental Chicago caters to the tastes of modern travelers while sharing the treasures of its own rich past. The art-deco facade, preserved and polished in a recent renovation, only hints at the pleasures of past and present inside.
What began in 1929 as the Medinah Athletic Club today embraces the hotel's landmark wing, a modern tower, 792 guest rooms, and more than 40,000 square feet of meeting space. The Grand Ballroom leads off four magnificently appointed historic ballrooms with its elliptical shape, interior balcony, classic pillars, 37 hand-painted murals, and 12,000-pound Baccarat crystal chandelier. The Renaissance Room evokes the French court of Louis XVI, the Seville Room entertains in the style of Spanish royalty, and the King Arthur Court & Camelot captures the majesty of medieval Britain.
Two more ballrooms and 28 conference rooms expand on the selection of venues for meetings and events. Top-flight corporate groups also favor the Presidential Suite, which commands a bird's-eye view of Chicago from the thirty-fifth floor. In fact, all 792 guest rooms overlook the city, and many view Lake Michigan as well.
A Roman-style swimming pool, fitness center, and chic restaurant, bar, and wine, cheese, and chocolate tasting room appeal to group members and leisure travelers alike. In addition, as the only hotel with a front entrance on the Magnificent Mile, the InterContinental offers instant access to Chicago's finest sightseeing, shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Planner Reviews
I always look forward to going back to the InterContinental Chicago because it offers exceptional service and great, functional meeting space.

The InterCon combines a historic tower with a contemporary tower. Most (if not all) of the meeting space is in the historic tower. The space is spread out on many floors and most require an elevator transfer.
There are lots of stairs and different levels to jump around the property. It is very confusing in the beginning, but isn't as much of an issue once you settle in.
Our meeting was held in the downstairs space, the Valencia and Seville Ballrooms. It was very convenient space as it was all self-contained, yet it also contained the public restrooms so there was a lot of foot traffic and a lot of noise we had to deal with throughout the day.
The guest rooms are comfortable and adequate...with very nice beds. Check-in seems to get overwhelmed at times and management doesn't seem to jump in and assist. Many of my guests (including myself) had to wait more than 7 minutes to check in...and watch as one person tried to accommodate a large arrival group. Where was her backup???
The Banquet staff was great, as was the food.
Would I go back? I'm not sure. I will look around next time I'm in Chicago...and will consider this property, it's just not a slam dunk.

I have had several incentive programs at this location. Great value. Located on Michigan Ave. with easy access to majority of venues. I have have several groups at this property. Location provides various options in hotel for meal events. Have not experienced their spa or golf options. I would use this location for future events.

The Leadership Conference attendees were thoroughly impressed with the hotel, staff and service. The executive director wrote such a glowing evaluation to my CEO in praise of this hotel and my successful contract negotiations, that it was a fabulous meeting for us all.

The location of this hotel is perfect for the complete Chicago Experience. I would recommend the Historic Tower Rooms. All meeting space is in the Historic tower.
Rooms are more spacious. The hotel usually charges a small premium for these rooms but it is worth it.
