Restaurants at the Hotel Grand Pacific implement the Ocean Wise conservation program

The Hotel Grand Pacific on the Inner Harbour in Victoria, BC, is proud to implement the Ocean Wise program in The Mark and The Pacific Restaurants, effective immediately.

A conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium, the Ocean Wise program makes it easy for diners to make the most responsible seafood choices. The Ocean Wise symbol identifies items on the restaurants menus that the Aquarium has guaranteed to be ocean-friendly.

Sustainable seafood is, very simply, seafood caught in a way that ensures the health of the ocean for years to come.

Ocean Wise choices are species that are:

# abundant and resilient to fishing pressures
# managed as part of a comprehensive plan based on current research
# harvested in ways that limit accidental bycatch of other, possibly endangered species
# harvested in ways that limit damage to ocean habitats

Over the past three years, the Ocean Wise program has grown from a small, local initiative to become a leader locally, nationally and internationally in the burgeoning sustainable seafood movement. By implementing the Ocean Wise program in our restaurants, the Hotel Grand Pacific gives patrons the opportunity to enjoy a terrific meal, and do their part to protect our oceans, said Emory Haines, Director of Operations and Food & Beverage.
