In a Caribbean paradise of sandy crescent beaches, swaying palms and tropical gardens, Jamaica’s Half Moon holds a rare find for meeting travelers just ten miles from Montego Bay. Beyond the magnificent setting, the resort’s deluxe accommodations, sophisticated convention facilities and a dedication to provide each guests with “The 3 Ps”—privacy, pampering, and personalized service—ensure a memorable getaway for small and large groups alike. An added perk: Business retreats in Jamaica are tax-deductible for U.S. corporations.
Indoor meetings and banquets take place in 26,000 square feet of award-winning conference space, including a Conference Centre, executive boardrooms and two foyers—each decorated in distinct Caribbean hues and European furnishings and fabrics. Highlighting the facilities, the 12,000-square-foot Cornwall Room has become a venue of choice for many prestigious events, such as the G-15 Summit, with attendees including government leaders from the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East.
Outside, the resort’s stunning setting invites anything from elaborate sit-down dinners to casual barbecues at water’s edge. The Royal Pavilion, Sunrise Beach, and the Sugar Mill Restaurant count for just a few of the outdoor venues. Additionally, Half Moon’s exclusive Royal Villas offer an ideal setting for intimate gatherings.
Time off can be spent exploring the 400-acre resort playground, encompassing a dolphin lagoon, shopping village, equestrian center, championship golf course, and Fern Tree, The Spa at Half Moon. Within view from many of the 398 guest rooms and villas, the shimmering sea and two white-sand beaches also beckon guests to come out and play.
Half Moon is an excellent resort. I have been coming here for the past five years and everything just gets better and better.

Rose Hall, Jamaica (September 2008) - Myrtle Dwyer, Director of Sales & Marketing at Half Moon announces the appointment of Sharon Logan as the luxury resort's Associate Director of Group Sales.
Mrs. Logan assumes this new appointment after serving two years as the resort's Tour Operator Relations Manager. In her capacity as Associate Director of Group Sales, Mrs. Logan will be responsible for building the resort's strong group business, canvassing key international markets and forging alliances among the meetings, incentives, conventions and events constituencies.
Sharon holds certificate in hospitality marketing from Connell University and held positions at Sand Castles and Plantation Inn.
Half Moon Green Globe Certified
Further to this, Half Moon, the 400 acre luxury resort located in the elite enclave of Rose Hall, is Green Globe certified.
Long a pioneer in green initiatives in Jamaica, the resort was commended for its detailed, concise and sound environmental practices and social responsibility that are at the heart of the 400 acre resort's operation.
Half Moon has over the years integrated various green practices and initiatives in its operations. Among such initiatives are: a towel re-use program - old beach towels are used to make wash rags for cleaning; old linen are sent to the upholstery shop to make play items for the Anancy Children's Village; shredded papers are used as packing materials for guest when transporting craft items, and they are also sold to funeral homes to be used in the stuffing of caskets. Saw dust from the furniture shop is sent to the equestrian centre to be used as horse bedding while, horse dung is used as soil conditions in the nursery. Old batteries are sent to a battery dealer, waste oil is sent to a factory to be used in the manufacturing of poultry feed and waste auto oil is used in the manufacturing of bio-diesel. Guests of the resort are also afforded the opportunity to contribute to these programs through various conservation signs such as water, electricity and chemical usage.
One of Jamaica's premier luxury resorts, approximately ninety percent of Half Moon's food products are purchased from local providers. With its on-site nursery, carpentry and furniture shop as well as upholstery and drapery centre, Half Moon is able to employ skilled artisans from the local community. Additionally, waste materials from these areas are used in the on-site horse stables, in landscaping and to produce dolls for local children's homes. Similarly waste resources from the stables are used in the resort's landscaping programme.
A staunch conservationist, the 54 year old resort reported a five percent decrease in its energy bill thanks to several conservation initiatives effected resort-wide that included replacing high wattage light bulbs with low-energy bulbs. Additionally, the resort's waste water treatment plant generates over 130,000 gallons of water per day that is used to irrigate the 400-acre property.
The resort's eco-friendly operations practices are underscored by its community outreach programme that is supported equally by management and staff. For group guests, Half Moon facilitates volunteerism programmes allowing group participants to contribute to local charitable organizations either by donations or through hands-on work.
"We are thrilled to receive this mark of distinction as it represents the commitment of our board of directors and management to employ sound environmental practices. More importantly, it represents the commitment of the staff to implement and drive the small measures, enforce the larger policies and practices and to go out amongst the community to infect these positive practices that are good for all of us, "said Richard Whitfield, Managing Director.
Green Globe is the worldwide benchmarking and certification program that facilitates sustainable travel and tourism for consumers, companies and communities. It is based on Agenda 21 and principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 governments at the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992.

Rose Hall - October 2007- Newly sworn-in Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Honourable Bruce Golding cut the ribbon to signal the opening of the new Fern Tree, the Spa at Half Moon.
The Oct. 6 event marked the conclusion of a 15-month project that saw the conversion of the resort's signature villa Fern Tree House into a 68,000 square foot indoor/outdoor sanctuary for the mind and body.
In addition to the new spa Half Moon also unveiled six beachfront spa suites, the very first of its kind in the Caribbean. Each of the state of the art suites has added features that provide for in-room treatments, yoga, etc. further extending Fern Tree's wellness experience into guests' accommodations.
Drawing from the local lush landscape and centuries-old healing traditions as inspiration, Fern Tree, the Spa at Half Moon melds modern spa techniques with Jamaica's ancient healing remedies of native herbs, fruits and botanicals. The Fern Tree Spa complex also houses a relaxation lounge, yoga pavilion, hydrotherapy swimming pool, sculpture garden and several water features.
"We have spared no expense in creating the finest spa in the Caribbean," said Richard Whitfield, Half Moon's Managing Director. "Throughout Half Moon's 53 year history, our guests have come to expect nothing but the best, Fern Tree's world-class treatments and design, paired with Half Moon's signature hospitality and service will be no exception."
Fern Tree will introduce guests to a Spa Elder, a guide versed in the art of using Jamaica's natural therapeutic remedies, to guide, create and counsel clients on a path to wellness with bespoke programmes and regimes. With more than 35 years of experience, Stella Gray, the Chief Spa Elder has been creating these treatments for decades. The elder individually meets with guests to develop treatments for their specific needs. The majority of her therapies come from the natural herbs and botanicals grown in the on-site garden that she personally tends.
The spa's menu includes signature spa treatments, such as the Jamaican Bush Bath and the Jamaican Green Coffee Envelopment, as well as personalized therapies made by the Spa Elder. In addition, options specially created for men, teenagers and kids are also available.
Borrowing from Fern Tree House's original colonial design of hardwood floors, grand entryways and opulent furnishings, treatment rooms are set amidst lush gardens allowing guests the option of having their room enclosed or open to their own private garden terrace. Couples can reserve the plantation-style couples massage room, bedecked with wooden millwork, pitched ceilings and private patio with dipping pool. Families, wedding parties and groups will enjoy the spa cottage, offering a separate living room and spa treatment rooms affording the group quality bonding time and private tranquillity.
The six new signature beachfront spa suites are adjacent to the spa. The suites provide all the comforts found in a traditional hotel suite along with added features and services of a personal spa. Each spa suite features an expansive bedroom with sitting area, an oversized bathroom, a personal studio that can be used for private en-suite treatments, personal fitness or yoga and a private patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Special features of the spa suite include an organic spa refreshment bar and spa bath bar.
The Fern Tree Spa is the third in a series of major refurbishing projects to be undertaken by Half Moon in the resort's five-year master plan project. Other upgrades included the rebuilding of the resort's beachfront Hibiscus Suites; the renovation of the 41-year old Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed golf course; refurbishing the Oleander deluxe suites; the addition of a new children's play area; and upgrading two of the resort's specialty restaurants.

Rose Hall, Jamaica (December 2007) - Solidifying its position as a premier golf destination, Managing Director of Half Moon Richard Whitfield has announced the launch of the resort's eponymous golf academy.
The facility, set to open in January 2008, will offer a variety of instructional programmes individually tailored to fit the needs of all golfers from complete beginners through to experienced professionals.
One-hour private lessons focusing on full swing or short game including video and computer analysis will be offered both individually and for couples. Cost is $100 and $150 respectively.
Not to be left out, families can also get in the swing of things together with an introductory clinic covering the basics of both the short game and full swing. Costing $250 this rate is applicable to two adults and up to four children. While a one-hour junior's clinic for children six to fourteen years old is $50 per child. The one hour junior's programme will focus on the fundamentals of both the full swing and short game.
Additionally, for $150 golfers who want to hone their club and shot selection as well as course management skills to shave strokes off their score can take advantage of the two-hour, nine-hole playing lesson.
"Our course is ideal for learning more about and practicing the game of golf. Similarly, the Half Moon Golf Academy is designed to make this less prohibitive so that travellers can feel comfortable learning to hold a club for the first time or improving particular aspects of their game," Mr. Whitfield said.
The academy will be led by the resort's recently appointed Director of Golf Ewan Peebles, a PGA professional from Scotland and an adept instructor with over 10 years of experience coaching golfers of all ability levels in both Jamaica and Scotland. As the winner of the 2006 & 2007 PGA of Jamaica order of merit, he is currently their number one ranked professional golfer and he also coached the island's national team for the 2006 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship.
Dubbed one of the best walking courses in the Caribbean, the recently renovated Half Moon golf course features newly-aligned, multiple tee complexes as well as repositioned fairway and greenside bunkers. Greens fee for 18 holes of golf at the Half Moon Golf Club is $105 per round for resident guests from January 1 - April 15 and $85 from April 16 - December 14.
