Gran Melia Cancun

Mayan-style pyramids lend a distinctive profile to the AAA four-diamond Gran Meliá Cancún. Set beside a stretch of sandy white beach in Cancún, the resort offers guests a medley of business-savvy meeting venues and incentive-worthy recreation options. Four swimming pools, seven restaurants and bars, a nine-hole golf course, and Yhi Spa Wellness Center—a Leading Spa of the World—all stand ready to reward a job well done.

Meeting spaces begin with the Gran Salón del Prado, which hosts banquets for up to 1,100 guests, and the midsized Del Prado, with seating for 1,100. More than 20 other venues range from boardrooms to beachfront terraces—and the resort caters everything from breaks to grand buffets. On their own, group members may also sample grilled steaks at La Veranda, Japanese seafood at Nami Sushi Lounge, and Mexican cuisine at Ku-Nah Restaurant among others.

The 686 guest rooms include 137 designated as Red Level accommodations. Red Level elevates the hospitality experience with such extras as a private check-in lounge, an exclusive pool with Balinese-style huts and concierge service, and a private lounge serving light refreshments throughout the day. A number of area attractions, including nature parks and Mayan archaeological sites, keep visitors happily occupied between meetings. In the evenings, group members can step out—in their dancing shoes, if they like—to sample Cancún’s legendary nightlife.

Wine Cellar Special
Posted Sep 27, 2009 by Elite News Team
With a storage capacity for 1,500 bottles of wine divided into 230 labels from the best wine regions in the world, the wine cellar of "Tempo", the most gourmet and high flying culinary option in the universe of services offered by the Hotel Gran Melia Cancun, is without a doubt one of the most frequented in the entire destination. Carlos Pérez, the food and beverage director of this great establishment, which belongs to the Sol Meliá group and is catalogued among the best
resorts in the Mexican Caribbean, takes us on a journey of emotional accents and flavors to discover one of the areas displayed with most pride by the hotel, the exclusive wine cellar where Mexican wine also has a distinguished
place and is represented by 40 labels.

The principle wine experts from Ensenada are constantly invited to give talks in order to promote domestically produced wine and thus ensure the wine cellar remains versatile in this respect, and hence the concept of being the only one which has, not one, but two renowned sommeliers: Markus Yuke and Carlos Duarte.

They also maintain constant contact and feedback with wine producers and experts such as Wente, Mondavi, Chateau Lafitte and Pesquera. In turn they train the "Tempo" restaurant's dining room staff to keep them up to date with wine trends and be able to make knowledgeable recommendations to diners.

An elegant table is kept inside this wine cellar for private tastings on Thursdays, showing that wine is promoted there like in no other place. Also emblematic of the hotel is the 4 Diamond "Ku-nah" (which means "Temple of Taste") cellar, which has Mexican wine, as well as the most exclusive collection of champagnes with a stock of 18 different labels; luxury which is worth experiencing.
Additionally, tequila also has a prominent place, with a collection of 40 brands altogether, both as an aperitif or a digestive, and tastings are held on Wednesdays. The rarest and most valued brands have been chosen one by one,
such as Don Julio Real, Reserva de la Familia, Clase Azul, Delice or Selección Suprema Herradura.
