Blantyre, a grand turn-of-the-century country house hotel tucked deep in the Berkshires, personifies Gilded Age elegance with its 117-acre estate in Lenox, Massachusetts. Exquisite antiques and period furnishings grace all 23 guest rooms: 8 in the Main House and 11 in the Carriage House, plus four private cottages. Leaded windows, coffered ceilings, a roaring hearth, and a hand-carved nineteenth-century table lend warmth and a sense of history to cocktails or impromptu gatherings in the Main Hall.

Guests dress for dinner, enjoying epicurean cuisine and wines of the highest order. They dine in baronial splendor indoors, in the garden, and in a glassed-in conservatory that overlooks the grounds. Nods to the twenty-first century include light menu selections, cooking classes with the chefs, and a state-of-the-art spa.

Private meeting rooms for groups of up to 24 feature the same attentive service and awardwinning menus that earns Blantyre its Mobil Five-Star Award and membership with Relais & Châteaux. Afternoon champagne and canapés in the Music Room provide a relaxing transition from work to play. In warm weather, group activities might incorporate tennis, croquet, or golf on nearby courses. In winter, the snow concierge delivers hot chocolate anywhere on the property and can arrange for ice-skating on the frozen tennis courts, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing along with a memorable picnic on the ice or snow barbecue. Groups who prefer private use of the property appreciate the opportunity for exclusivity: from November through June, Blantrye offers its entire property to groups booking eight rooms or more on weeknights.

Blantyre's a pretty special spot. We stayed in the Laurel Suite for one night for an anniversary. It's a stunning room - enormous bed nestled in a big bay window, fireplace, boudoir to prepare for dinner, pretty bathroom. The mod cons are all present, but tastefully tucked away.
Highlights:
- Wine tasting before dinner (Saturday evenings) and associated tour of the phenomenal wine cellars with the resident Wine Director, who's truly passionate about her field. Wine pairings with dinner were equally impressive.
- Sunday morning in bed with sun streaming in the windows, an amazing room service breakfast and the Sunday Times.
- Massage in the "Potting Shed" spa, followed by relaxing in/around the hot tub.
Meals were all delicious, the extra touches were nice and staff very welcoming. Enjoyed a nice stroll along the walking trail, with good warm boots provided for our use.
The drive from New York is fine - worth bringing a GPS or a patient navigator.
Gents, remember to bring tie and jacket for dinner. Girls, it's definitely an opportunity for a frock and heels.
Will hopefully head back soon - maybe in winter to partake of ice skating and hot chocolate outside.
