Visitors enamored with old Savannah seem both pleased and surprised to discover Avia Savannah, a new six-story, from-the-ground-up boutique hotel in the heart of the historic district that opened its doors in January 2009. What the 151 guest rooms and suites lack in longevity they make up for in Southern charm, with nine-foot ceilings, crown moldings, and plantation shutters overlooking newly renovated Ellis Square.
Meeting planners appreciate Avia Savannah's flexible 2,675-square-foot Grand Parlor, which breaks into three function rooms for corporate events. Unlike many of its vintage neighbors, Avia also boasts a lively outdoor terrace and pool with fire pit and private cabanas ideal for intimate business meetings. Groups may cap a day at City Market with dinner at Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons and a midnight stroll in the garden.
