(New York, NY).First there were the Italians saying that only they could produce the perfect espresso (or any coffee for that matter), then came those pesky coffee nerds from Seattle who claimed ownership to the coffee crown. Well now, in case you hadnt heard, New York City has said enough, we are the center of the universe, we will be the arbiters of what great coffee is. Joes, Abrao, Gimme, 9th Street, El Beit have all raised the bar and New Yorkers are finally able to drink first rate coffee. But wait a minute, what if one is actually in Midtown and looking for not only first class Java, but elegance and perhaps a drop of liquor too? Enter Knave, the creation of the same people who brought you NORMAS (making breakfast a real culinary delight) and the burger joint (just great burgers, no fluff). Knave - an indoor sidewalk espresso bar that takes coffee seriously.

How seriously?
*Counter Culture freshly roasted coffee
*Serious Baristas who have been training for years and have been recruited from all over the country.
*No to-go cups - you must stop and enjoy your drink.
*No drip coffee - try an Americano, youll never want regular coffee again.
*No Cappuccinos served after noon - its a breakfast drink!
*No ridiculously oversized mega-gargantuan-extra-huge drinks. Quantity does not mean quality.
*No pre-packaged, automatically made gourmet coffee.

Its good to take things seriously, but we also know how to have fun! Around lunchtime, you will find an array of the finest paninetti in midtown. No better place to relax, catch-up on some work (wireless available) or hold a casual lunch meeting. Those long, stuffy lunch meetings are so pass.

Onto the evening - the wines and alcohol are purely European, such as: Montepulciano, Le Volte or a Vermentino are but a few of the choices. Beer ranges from a Leffe Blonde to a Warsteiner Lager. Capitalizing on the legality of Absinthe, weve got a beautiful tower and a variety of cocktails blended by the green fairy herself.

And since one cant survive on just liquidsalthough some tend to disagree, the evening menu has a selection of delectable Ciccetti such as: Brascola wrapped figs stuffed with parmesan, bite-size frittata pieces that melt in your mouth and marinated artichokes to name a few. Dessert consists of fruit tartlettes and other fine pastry and of course the finest after-dinner espresso.

The dcor? Best described as Knave-like, youll agree after your first visit.
