Remember Every Name Every Time
What’s in a Name?

When confronting a crowd of new faces—as meeting professionals often do—the ability to remember names can be a powerful business tool. Corporate entertainer, consultant, and author Benjamin Levy shares his personal method in Remember Every Name Every Time. He frequently coaches captains of industry, heads of state, and employees at Fortune 500 companies on how to manage a flawless meet and greet. For the casual user, he suggests a basic technique with the apt acronym FACE. It suggests that you:

Focus: Block out distractions and make an effort to be fully present in the moment of introduction. (Bonus tip: Access to the guest list can give you a head start.)

Ask: Even if you focused on hearing the name, ask to hear it again. You may feel certain you heard it correctly the first time, but repetition helps the brain. Levy offers several clever variations on how to ask without appearing obtuse.

Comment: To secure a name in the cranial lockbox, come up with a simple visual or verbal connection. You might cross-reference the person with a favorite celebrity, for instance.

Employ: Gracefully drop the name into the ensuing conversation, introduce the person to others, and/or use the name again when saying good-bye.
For the extreme sport of remembering a roomful of folks at the end of the night, as Levy does, he details an advanced method ideal for those with active imaginations. Price: $24.50 ($29.50 for an autographed copy); amazingmemorysecrets.com; 413.528.9482.
